Helps to make the most of all the features in the Microsoft technology environment
Pros and Cons
  • "Windows has significantly improved its performance and stability over the past seven or eight years. In the earlier days, issues were more challenging to resolve, but nowadays, most problems are easily fixed."
  • "I'm currently facing an issue on Windows 10 related to pop-up notifications. The problem is identifying which specific application requires attention when the taskbar notifies about an important event. For instance, when working on an application, the taskbar appears with a notification but doesn't indicate which application needs attention. I have to minimize the active application windows to identify it, which can be inconvenient."

What is our primary use case?

I prefer using Windows 10 on my workstation. The user interface is more user-friendly, making navigating the operating system and applications easier. Since I'm a developer, most of the development tools I use are compatible with Windows 10.

For various productivity tasks, browsing, and working with tools like data warehouses, I find Windows 10 to be a suitable choice.

How has it helped my organization?

We use Windows 10 because it lets us use the latest Windows technology and applications. For example, we work with Power BI, which doesn't work on Linux. It allows us to make the most of all the features in the Microsoft technology environment.

What is most valuable?

Windows has significantly improved its performance and stability over the past seven or eight years. In the earlier days, issues were more challenging to resolve, but nowadays, most problems are easily fixed.

What needs improvement?

I'm currently facing an issue on Windows 10 related to pop-up notifications. The problem is identifying which specific application requires attention when the taskbar notifies about an important event. For instance, when working on an application, the taskbar appears with a notification but doesn't indicate which application needs attention. What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is stable as long as you use the compatible hardware.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. It allows us to use Linux and Docker for Windows. Previously, to use a Linux platform on Windows, we relied on VMware or Oracle virtual machines. Now, with the stable Windows Subsystem for Linux, there's no need for virtual machines.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, we used Linux in its various GUI and desktop versions alongside Windows. However, we primarily use Windows due to limitations in functionality, especially with applications like Microsoft Office. Some colleagues use Mac OS, but I prefer using Windows.

How was the initial setup?

Installing Windows 10, including all the updates, takes around four to six hours. It is an easy process. We first need a bootable USB drive containing the Windows ISO license to install the product. After booting from the USB drive, the installation process begins, prompting us to choose new installation, license activation, and user account setup options. The installer guides us through configuring settings like time zone, date, language, and creating a new user account with a password. Once the base software is installed, the system reboots, and users can activate the license or register within a specified time frame.

What about the implementation team?

The tool's deployment was done in-house.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We need to pay for the licensing through Microsoft partner. We benefit from an education license in the Philippines, which provides us with a better deal compared to Windows licenses for retail stores.

What other advice do I have?

I rate the solution a ten out of ten.

User-friendly, has good security features, and provides patches for vulnerabilities
Pros and Cons
  • "The tool is user-friendly."
  • "The product must provide AI features in future releases."

What is our primary use case?

The solution is the back-end operating system for almost all my activities. I use it to connect with the client network and open the files in the system.

What is most valuable?

I like the file structure and the ability to search is valuable.

I like the ability to create documents. The tool is user-friendly. The security is great. The vendor provides patches for the vulnerabilities in the solution. We have had no issues with the security.

The newer versions are better than the older ones. I haven't personally faced any issues.

What needs improvement?

The product must provide AI features in future releases.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the tool’s stability a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The tool is highly scalable. We have almost one lakh users in our organization.

How are customer service and support?

The support is good. We do not contact support often. Our in-house support team can manage the issues by themselves.

How was the initial setup?

The IT team does the setup for us. One administrator is enough to deploy the product.

What was our ROI?

The ROI is good. We have got a 100% return on investment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I rate the pricing a seven out of ten. The price could be improved. There are no additional costs associated with the product.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have also used Windows 8. Windows 10 is more user-friendly, and the response time is higher. Windows 10 has more features. For high-volume operations, organizations prefer Linux.

What other advice do I have?

Windows 10 is a good operating system for technical and IT personnel. It is a stable system. It has security features. It’s good for individual users. Overall, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.

System startup improved, applications run smooth, regular free upgrades, and affordable
Pros and Cons
  • "The applications seem to run smoother on this solution than they did with Windows 7."
  • "It would be great if they could make the systems boot faster but I think it is more of a function of the PC than the solutions."

What is our primary use case?

We are a small company and we use Windows 10 Professional for four of our computers.  We use Windows 11 Pro on the newer PC and will transition to it as we replace the older machines.

How has it helped my organization?

Windows 10 Professional is more stable than our previous version, Windows 7 Enterprise, for our purposes.  We've not had a single crash since installing it.

What is most valuable?

Windows 10 Professional allows us to network our internal computers and share files easily.

Startup time is faster with Windows 10 over Windows 7 Enterprise.

It is highly stable.  As mentioned above, we've not had any crashes in three years, which is amazing.

Microsoft releases patches and updates.  And we've not had any issues with them, so far.

The applications seem to run smoother on Windows 10 Pro than they did with Windows 7.

What needs improvement?

It would be great if Microsoft could make PCs boot much faster but I think it may be more of a function of the PC's system design than the operating system.  Solid-state drives have no mechanical mechanisms making them faster than the earlier hard disk drive technology.  I'm an end-user, like most people, and want my PC to boot faster so I may begin my work.

As I think further about Windows 10 improvement, it would be better if Microsoft could improve how their operating system stores files.  And I would like to find my information quicker without having to devise a new search strategy every time I forget where I stored a file.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution since it came out. I believe it was approximately three years.  I'm still using Windows 10 on my older PC and use Windows 11 on the newer one.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It seems to be reliable. We've not had any crashes with it on any of our PCs in three years of daily heavy use.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We don't have scalability as a requirement.

How are customer service and support?

We've not had to use Microsoft customer service with Windows 10. We've used tech experts on user blogs that are available online for unusual situations with other Microsoft applications but not yet with Windows 10 Professional.  I don't know if these experts are paid or not but they usually respond within 48 hours.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used Windows 7 Enterprise, which was occasionally unstable, but effective overall.  Windows 10 Professional is more stable.

How was the initial setup?

The setup is automatic. Hit the go button and it installs smoothly.

What about the implementation team?

No.

What was our ROI?

We haven't calculated it, but I would estimate that the lack of crashes saved us at least 20 hours per year per PC.  Maybe, that is a bit high, but it's a ballpark guess.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Windows 10 was already factory installed on our new PCs.  We upgraded to Windows 10 Professional later.  For home users, the professional version is not necessary unless file sharing between PCs is a requirement.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

No.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Windows 10 Professional an eight out of ten.

Has a straightforward setup phase but needs to ensure that it doesn't work slow for the users
Pros and Cons
  • "The tool is easy to use."
  • "Sometimes, I need to reboot it when it slows down."

What is our primary use case?

I use the solution in my company for general office usage purposes, including areas like emails, Excel, or PowerPoint.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of the solution stems from the fact that since it is the most common platform, many applications are available on it to support our company's needs. The tool is easy to use.

What needs improvement?

Sometimes, I need to reboot it when it slows down. When a patch is installed, it will have to be rebooted several times. The aforementioned area can be considered for improvement in the tool.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Windows 10 for a couple of years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I don't think it is a scalable solution.

My company has over 1,000 product users.

My company has no plans to increase the number of users.

How are customer service and support?

My company just uses internal IT support, and I don't know whether they use some kind of Microsoft support.

How was the initial setup?

The product's initial setup phase is pretty straightforward.

The installation usually involves some patch deployment with some kind of tools. Generally, I just use the tool by myself, and I just need a USB to install the solution.

My company has an internal IT team to take care of the tool's deployment and maintenance.

The solution can be deployed in 30 minutes.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I think my company has acquired a license from the OEM. I believe that the product is cheaply priced.

What other advice do I have?

Whether I would recommend the product to others or not depends on their use cases. The security part of the product may be an issue, and it might be quite serious.

Compared to the previous version of the products, the hardware compatibility offered by Windows 10 is okay right now since I haven't faced any application issues lately.

I rate the tool a seven out of ten.

Useful for emails, reading books, and watching movies—for work and entertainment
Pros and Cons
  • "I've used different Windows releases for many years, so it's the preferred operating system that I'm used to. I don't use the tiled interface that Microsoft introduced to unify laptop and mobile interfaces, but I find it inconvenient on laptops. I prefer the more classical, conservative interface like Windows 7 and XP."
  • "I think there are too many unnecessary questions when installing the solution. I try to do it as quickly as possible, answering "no" or "I don't want" to most questions. I don't remember the questions because I just try to skip them all. I don't pay attention to particular questions as I don't need them. I know I'll get Windows at the end, which I need. Compared to years ago, the installation process now has many more non-technical questions about usage and family members, which I don't like."

What is our primary use case?

I use Windows 10 for everything in my IT job. I use it for different tools, programs, and client software in a client environment. I also use it for emails, reading books, and watching movies—for work and entertainment.

What is most valuable?

I've used different Windows releases for many years, so it's the preferred operating system that I'm used to. I don't use the tiled interface that Microsoft introduced to unify laptop and mobile interfaces, but I find it inconvenient on laptops. I prefer the more classical, conservative interface like Windows 7 and XP.

I don't remember the questions because I just try to skip them all. I don't pay attention to particular questions as I don't need them. I know I'll get Windows at the end, which I need. For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the product for six to seven years.

How are customer service and support?

I've never directly contacted Microsoft support, but I've found answers on their support website through Google searches.

What other advice do I have?

I don't personally manage the security features; corporate administrators handle that. I don't control the default Windows security services.

Our company plans to upgrade to Windows 11 in a few months, replacing Windows 10. I'm unsure about performance compared to Linux, but I'm more used to Windows, so I don't plan to switch.

We have OneDrive integration, but I don't use it much. For security and privacy reasons, I prefer keeping my files locally on hard disks rather than in the cloud. I also don't like distributing my files across cloud networks to make them more available to others.

I'd rate Windows 10 as eight out of ten. It's not a ten because of unnecessary features like the tiled interface and installation questions. Also, a controversial feature in Windows 11 would automatically take screenshots every few seconds, including passwords and secret information. After complaints, Microsoft made this feature off by default. They presented it as an advantage for retrieving lost information, but people feared privacy implications. That's why I don't rate it a ten.

Offers compatibility with all types of computers but needs to improve stability
Pros and Cons
  • "Speaking about how the solution actually supports hardware compatibility compared to previous versions, I would say that it can pretty much work with almost any type of computer."
  • "The stability of the product has certain shortcomings, making it an area where improvements are required."

What is our primary use case?

I use the solution in my company for our standard daily operations and to use client Hyper-V.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of the solution stems from the fact that Windows 11 has been improved lately.

What needs improvement?

With Windows 10, there is room for improvement, especially in terms of the amount of time required to update the product. The time required to update the product should be shorter.

The tool's personal area network (PAN) features or screenshot functionalities need improvement since if you take two screenshots at once, one of them disappears in Windows 10. In Windows 11, if you take screenshots at once, you can get both of them in real time.

The stability of the product has certain shortcomings, making it an area where improvements are required.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Windows 10 since it was released.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability-wise, I rate the solution a seven to eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There is no need to scale up the product in my company.

There are around 500 people in my company who use the product.

As my company uses Windows 10, it does not need to be increased since we use the right licenses. I believe that everything is already included in it.

There are no plans to increase the product's usage in my company.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Linux was one of the alternatives to Windows 10. I don't use Linux anymore.

How was the initial setup?

My company usually opts for a server-based deployment model.

The solution is deployed on an on-premises model.

Installing from an ISO file typically takes a minute.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There is a need to make a payment towards the perpetual licensing model offered by the product.

What other advice do I have?

The security framework in Windows 10 is pretty much the same as Windows 8. Currently in Windows 10, you can enroll devices in Azure AD while also having access to BitLocker.

I don't know if I can recommend the product to others since it is based on a user experience. Compatibility with most of the applications is possible, especially with the ones included in Microsoft's stack. The GUI is pretty much straightforward. The tool offers online support for the operating system.

Speaking about how the solution actually supports hardware compatibility compared to previous versions, I would say that it can pretty much work with almost any type of computer.

I rate the tool a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Offers good support, easy enough to use and from a desktop perspective, Windows 10 is scalable
Pros and Cons
  • "The initial setup was fairly straightforward. It took just about a day."
  • "Sometimes it can be resource-hungry."

What is our primary use case?

It was the main operating system.

What needs improvement?

At the time, I used Windows 10, and it crashed a lot, but not as much as previous versions of Windows. That's one thing I can remember being a bit of a pain.

Moreover, I would like to see the little things like when you're working with Windows Explorer, you can open multiple tabs. It wasn't available in Windows 10.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Windows 10 since it's been out.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability a seven out of ten. I had some crashes.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

From a desktop perspective, it's scalable.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service and support are good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

It wasn't so much a decision as not having thought about it in advance. It's just when Windows 11 came out; it just felt natural, like progressing to a newer OS.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was fairly straightforward. It took just about a day.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is about average.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Just decided to work with it because it's the one that's commonly used.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten. It's easy enough to use, but sometimes it can be resource-hungry.
