Offers good security features and reliability
The tool is quite complex and difficult for anyone trying to use or study it. The complexity of learning the tool is an area of concern where improvements are required. Oracle Solaris' lighter and simpler version can be introduced. I feel that Oracle Solaris is a user-friendly tool because I am exposed to it.

Easy installation and the initial setup time is reasonable
Stability can be an issue. I have to restart it every two days. And the boot time is quite long. My laptop's old, has no SSD, and is just a traditional Winchester. Had desktops with Windows 11 and SSDs, much better performance. But hardware limitations on my current laptop lead to stability and response issues. It's more like the whole reinstall every two years thing. It makes cleaning a pain. Performance improves significantly after a fresh install, then slowly deteriorates as I add more programs. But my biggest concern with Windows 10 is actually bigger than my situation. I'm replacing my laptop anyway, but I read that Windows 10 support ends in a year or so. And with hardware limitations, many other computers won't run Windows 11. So it's not just me. A lot of people with decent, still-working Windows 10 machines will lose support and be unable to switch to 11. This will be a significant problem for individuals and institutions. Large companies with thousands of computers don't replace them every three years, and they might face issues with many computers unable to run Windows 11 and lacking support for 10.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We are able to deploy new environments very quickly and securely. Using the virtualization features, we can migrate the environments very flexibly between our servers."
"One of the main features of this solution is the ease of use."
"Oracle Solaris is great due to the fact that it actually is meant for high-end servers."
"Solaris is scalable because they have their own file system, like CFS."
"We like that the virtualization is built in, so you don't have to spend extra money on buying licenses for a hypervisor."
"Oracle Solaris provides an ease of use."
"The product's most valuable feature is partitioning resources and optimizing hardware utilization effectively."
"The backup capabilities are quite good."
"The most valuable features are the interface and the speed of switching between processes."

"We've found the scalability to be good."
"Windows 10 is easy to use and has good performance."

"The solution is very easy to install."

Cons

"Currently, there are two variants, there's SPARC and there's x86. I would have wanted a scenario where they're all just one product."
"They could also enable Oracle OEM for x86 architecture as well."
"It is not easy to use. It doesn't have a user-friendly interface. It should be easy to use. We are planning to move from Solaris to Linux because Linux is more flexible and user-friendly. Its installation should also be easier. Solaris also needs specific hardware to work well, which is another reason why we are moving to Linux. It should be more flexible in terms of hardware. It should have better integration with other hardware platforms."
"Red Hat Enterprise Linux is more secure and better documented. So Oracle could learn from them when it comes to security and documentation."
"It would be helpful if the solution offered backend management. In the 11.4 version, Oracle added a management console. It would be great if we maybe had a user management tool to go with it."
"The solution is pricey and can be improved by lowering the cost."
"Solaris is not easy to use. It needs better GUI, UI, and configuration tools."
"The Solaris code is open, and the documentation is accessible to all, not only to registered users. Also, the documentation does not support some solutions, and there are no other options."
"The solution's UI could be better."
"The operating system could be more configurable and compatible in integrating with other operating systems."
"My problem with the product stems from the fact that it does not ask for your opinion or time when going for an upgrade."
"There is a lot of preloaded information on Windows 10, that impacts the memory position."
"AI tools like ChatGPT should be integrated into the solution."
"I would like to see the licensing fees reduced."
"The security should be better on the solution."
"If the Windows 10 license could be cheaper, that would be better. Generally, a reduced price is always beneficial for consumers."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is a very expensive product."
"It is an expensive product. I rate the pricing a ten out of ten."

"The price of Oracle Solaris could be less expensive."
"Solaris is highly priced compared to other solutions, but since it's a niche product, this is to be expected."

"Windows 10 was pre-installed when I bought my laptop, so I haven't had to deal with any licensing costs."
"We have a license for all the products in my organization—the license for Windows Server and the license for the desktop version like Windows 10."
"There is a license to use the solution."
"It is not very cheap, but one can manage its costs easily."
"Windows 10 is licensed. It was included with the purchase of my laptop."
"The solution came pre-installed on my computer, so I did not incur a licensing fee."
"I'm not sure about how much it's priced in the consumer world, but within enterprise it comes in a Microsoft 365 license, which is very easy. It has become an easier commercial model."
