It is fast not only in the backup mode like DD but in recovery too. It keeps half of the capacity without dedup (Landing zone), which makes recovery of the last few backups really fast without the need to rehydrate fragmented data.
This is the reason why most backup solutions based on HDD, suffer low performance and require SSD's. Not that the Exagrid. Even the smallest box is able to fill 10Gb pipe in both directions.
If nondisruptive operations or FC or VTL is not your focus and a single controller solution is OK for you, I recommend trying it.
