I advise potential users that Dell PowerProtect DD is a good product, but it has to be aligned with your strategy, capacity, and budget. Rating for the overall solution is nine out of ten. The considerations should be to focus on price and on your strategy for your environment.

I often receive feedback for synthetic data from their own data centers, such as Silicon and the National Bank of Ethiopia. Also, I recommend permissions because their data is highly integrated. Currently, the government sector is lagging in the supply chain. However, our state and technical team are actively involved in provisioning. Clients are very interested in the solution. We have also completed the installation in Darwin and are preparing to hand over the solution Dell PowerProtect (Data Domain) is popular enough in our region. Knowing the commitment terms is important when working with Dell PowerProtect DD. Typically, you must sign a one-year commitment if you're participating in a campaign or program. If you are provided with a voucher or other benefits, such as for students, it will usually come with the requirement to fulfill this commitment. It's essential to understand these terms clearly before proceeding. Overall, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.

It’s often a preferred solution when comparing costs. Features like deduplication, compression, and ransomware protection are standard across vendors. The decision comes down to cost. If two vendors offer similar pricing and there’s no need for a mix-and-match approach, we prefer a single vendor like Dell. It all depends on negotiation when we're bundling components. If we opt for a single-vendor solution, our relationship with that vendor often leads to more competitive pricing. HCI allows us to avoid the complexities of setting up separate backup servers, as everything comes integrated into one box, including storage and all necessary roles. We prefer HCI backup solutions if the footprint doesn't increase drastically. If we can control the infrastructure, it's more efficient without managing multiple VMs or physical machines. While Data Domain is a good product, it doesn't fit every case, as customer requirements vary. Cohesity, on the other hand, offers a software solution with comprehensive features to meet technical needs. Dell doesn't always offer the most cost-effective solution; sometimes, we find better pricing elsewhere. OEMs often struggle to add new logos, so they may provide higher margins, which we can pass on to the customer. It's a good product, no doubt about that. Other similar products also perform well. It largely depends on the profile I'm working with; we prioritize cost in our validations. For example, getting the first vendor to match five can be challenging if one vendor quotes ten and another quotes five. On the other hand, it's often easier to negotiate down the vendor, quoting five to three or even two. Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

The deduplication feature of Dell PowerProtect DD is one of the best offering from the solution. For instance, the banking sector institutions make multiple copies of their data. The deduplication feature of the tool is capable of deduplicating at an impressive ratio or amount. Customers who have adopted Dell PowerProtect DD won't be interested in replacing it with another tool, the cost-effectiveness is one of the factors for such notion. I would overall rate Dell PowerProtect DD a nine out of ten. I would recommend the product to others.

They will offer Lenovo products and servers as well as storage and archiving solutions. They plan to begin this initiative immediately, but the paperwork is still ongoing. Once we receive the RFP, we will start proceeding. The advantage of the Dell PowerProtect DD is that we only use it for our archiving servers. Overall, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.
Data domain has two features. We also implement many customer tracking. We like a sum of customer tests, compliance, and regulations due to government systems and cybersecurity, and the retention length is a very useful solution. I recommend the features for all customers. According to benchmarks and customer feedback, Data Domain is highly regarded for its excellent throughput and performance compared to other vendors. Customers have reported that Data Domain handles backup and restore processes exceptionally well, demonstrating quick response times and efficient performance. Overall, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.
While it doesn't encompass all cybersecurity aspects, the tool employs encryption algorithms to protect data. We use tools from other vendors for cybersecurity protection. For those considering starting to use it, I would advise recognizing that the tool is primarily designed for enterprise-level solutions. However, even small- and medium-scale businesses can benefit by procuring and deploying solutions that meet their needs and requirements.

The recovery speed is the most important one for me. The data domain has a bit of a bottleneck on it, including its AI functionality. The data domain is sort of a target. It does not really have much intelligence. So, it depends on Veeam or another solution to do all the backup intelligence around it. It does have different kinds of functionalities to help speed up a backup from Dell SANs and storage and stuff. However, I think that it's not necessarily flexible with all their options for scanning the data that's being ingested and reporting on it. Another piece of advice that I would give the users who want to use Dell PowerProtect DD (Data Domain) is to do your homework, I think. Making sure you look at all the alternatives and validate the speed with which you can recover is quite important, and knowing what you need to recover. I would rate Dell PowerProtect DD (Data Domain) an eight out of ten.

We are a partner of Dell and a reseller. I'm a presales consultant. It's a very stable product. It has some drawbacks in that it's quite expensive compared to other solutions. We mostly use it for enterprise customers. So they could improve a bit on the options for pricing. Beyond that, it's a solid product. I'd rate the solution seven out of ten.

We are dealing with the newest version of the solution. We sell it. We are not end-users. I'm an engineer that helps with the sales teams. I'm the one who recommends these products and puts them together as a solutions architect. One client is going from two to three shelves, or 60 to 90 terabytes. The solution is comparable to other offerings and vendors. However, I've been pleased with its capabilities. I'd rate it nine out of ten.
We're a platinum partner. I'm using the latest version of the solution. We have certified engineers for Data Domain. I am the general manager of the company. I'm not an engineer. I'd recommend the solution to others. I would rate the solution nine out of ten.
I've been a consultant for 20 years. I'm a distributor. I would advise others to try it out. Our customers work with a solution partner, and we offer training. It's good to have some help and insights at first. It's a market leader. I'd rate it an eight out of ten.
I will recommend this solution to potential customers because it's one of the top brands and it's good. On a scale from one to ten, I would give Dell PowerProtect DD (Data Domain) a nine.

My advice to others is to ensure they understand the solution well so that when they do implement it, it is done correctly for the business. Lots of different companies use it in different ways. I was with EMC for 10 years and I have spent the last 15 years supporting EMC customers, every implementation is unique because everybody has different ways of doing things. They don't always follow best practices, they will follow their business best practice rather than the vendor's best practice. They want a different thing out of a backup environment. If my business said that they were going to change to a different backup product, I'd be looking for another job because I wouldn't trust my data with anything else. I rate Dell EMC PowerProtect DD a ten out of ten.
My company MiroMIX United is a Ukranian company, and we are the platinum partner of Dell EMC. The majority of our solutions are based on Dell EMC products. We sell HP servers, but not too many, just 5%. We sell Cisco equipment, but we prefer selling Dell EMC networking products. We're partners of Cisco Systems, but we try to sell more Dell EMC products, because we know Dell EMC products best. We sell Dell EMC PowerProtect DD (Data Domain) which is an integrated data protection appliance (IDPA). We have not sold many, e.g. just 10 or 15. Dell EMC PowerProtect DD (Data Domain) is a promising product. It's very competitive. Last year, this product was sold and utilized into the most powerful banks here in Ukraine, but not by my company. My company sold these products to departments and segments in the government, though we were able to sell several Data Domains to a bank, but it was not a project worth millions of dollars. Our competitors were able to sell this product for millions of dollars. It's a very interesting, promising, and competitive product. This solution is very promising and competitive, and we would like to sell more, but it's difficult. We can't predict how it will fare against the competition, for example: HP. At the moment, we have a POC in one bank here in Ukraine. It is a Hungarian bank, an OTP Bank, but it has a branch here in Ukraine. In the near future, there will be an official tender procedure announcement, but at the moment, they are testing Dell EMC PowerProtect DD (Data Domain), while also testing the backup solution from HP. It would be very interesting to hear their conclusions, but at the moment, we don't have the results. We have 15 clients who are using this solution. It would be great to expand our presence in this market. We have a service center certified by Dell, with 10 people working in it, and all of them are certified in various products, e.g. desktops, laptops, servers, data storages, and Dell EMC PowerProtect DD (Data Domain). We've been working with Dell for many years. Our company was founded 22 years ago, and during this period, we've been working with service and warranty, and the independent service in Ukraine is based on four service centers for private companies, with one of the service center being ours. In previous years, e.g. in the early 2000s, we had to keep spare parts at our stock room. We used to do this, but 10 years ago, Dell changed the strategy of service in Ukraine and they arranged the spare parts hubs located in all the regional centers. I recommend Dell EMC PowerProtect DD (Data Domain) to other users who want to start using it because it's a very interesting product. My rating for Dell EMC PowerProtect DD (Data Domain) is a ten out of ten, when compared to its competitors which are utilized in large accounts.

If the sizing at the beginning is good, you won't have any trouble with the implementation or using the product. But if you have a bad sizing, it's going to be a headache. Earlier, when we started deploying, we had to use a single DDBoost user for each EMP. I don't know our storage unit, however, now, with the latest release, we can use multiple users. That is one good reason why people should start using this solution, as there is one DDBoost user per entry. That way, it is easier to migrate or move across, for example, during your tech refresh. When they offer some kind of a load balancing feature in front of Data Domain it will be a good thing. We know that they always have it in the roadmap, however, we have never seen that come through. I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten.

Dell Avamar is a very good product. We've used it in the past when it was, let's say, one of the first solutions. I believe they offer duplication. Whenever Avamar came on the market, it was a revolutionary application. Right now, however, due to other software solutions not only for Dell EMC but for Avamar, it makes everything very good and also very bad from the sales point of view. With aggressive marketing of products, clients may request the wrong product. Avamar isn't well-positioned in Romania right now. Data Domain is better. When clients ask for certain other products, we try to steer them to Data Domain. Depending on the customer's needs, Dell can fit into all environments. If you want to have a very good backup appliance, then choose Data Domain because it will fit in almost everywhere. I don't think I know of another solution in which somebody can have a backup project or data protection where this product will not fit. Technically speaking, I cannot make a comparison with other products, as this solution can fit almost everywhere. I recommend better sizing to the client. That's important. Customers need to take into consideration their needs very, very well so they don't end up with too small of a product. It's better to go a bit bigger if it will fit the budget. Of course, the technical requirements need to be addressed. Data Domain integrates well with other products. It's something to consider. Overall, I would rate the solution nine out of ten.
