It varies from region to region. For example, in the Middle East, there is no strong preference for an OpEx model; most cases push us toward a CapEx model. This approach can differ from country to country. While there are challenges, such as delays in receiving the bill of quantities and quotes, the overall value proposition with Dell remains strong. The response times in the Middle East can sometimes be slower, which we must navigate.

In terms of pricing, Dell PowerProtect DD is facing competition from Veritas and Commvault. In my country, I have sometimes noticed that enterprise businesses are offered the aforementioned competitor solutions at a cost-effective price. I know a couple of government sector projects that have chosen a competitor solution instead of Dell PowerProtect DD due to the pricing.
There are two types of licenses available for Data Domain. One is the capacity license, based on the amount of data stored. For instance, you would need a capacity license if you require one terabyte of storage in Data Domain. Additionally, if you need performance and optimization features, you would require a database license, a subset of the capacity license. Harmony licenses are also necessary for certain functionalities.
Based on price, I can say you won't get 24/7 support from any other product like what Dell EMC provides. The price may be a bit higher than other products in the market, but you will receive ten out of ten support with next-business-day delivery on parts' availability. And on a product basis, DD is a good product. The product comes with a support contract, so DD will be a better option on that basis. It's worth the money somebody is spending to use Data Domain.

The approximate license cost for Dell PowerProtect DD (Data Domain) is around 5,00,000. It is a physical license for the term of the product. Veeam has an annual license, and the rest are all tied together. As for the maintenance costing, I have included that in the capital expenditure on the data domain for the Veeam support maintenance contract associated with that as well. But for the hardware, we purchased., a five-year block as a one-off capital cost, whereas Veeam has a shorter lifetime. This is because it's more revenue-based expenditure. Although we normally buy that for three years. But it's sort of rolling. Whereas we replace the physical hardware for up to five or seven years, depending on limitations on that.

The cost could be lower. Sometimes it's not very competitive. The licensing depends on the specific solution sizing, however, there are cheaper solutions that I have seen in the market. For example, HP tends to cost less.

There are many different licenses, so you pay for what you need. There are various aspects you can add on, like extra speed, or something just for reading data. There are licenses to do replication as well. You have a lot of options.
The solution is reasonably priced. We get discounts as well. They remain competitive. It's a hardware solution. We don't have to worry about software licensing. We can use any software on it that the client likes. Data Protect, DP 400, and higher models include EMC software and a set of various different software. If you buy the unit, you pay for it for three or five years. They also offer support with a warranty that you can extend.
The licensing is not cost-effective, and the pricing could be better. It is a costly solution compared to Veritas, but it has good performance, scalability and assurances.
It's a perpetual license, but you pay monthly for support. If you're integrating with the cloud, you have to pay for using the cloud. That's the only recurring cost you have with this tool.

The price is really high compared to other vendors. The licensing cost is huge. Normal, mid-tier companies or small-scale companies wouldn't be able to afford it easily. Only bigger organizations like enterprises can afford this kind of product.

If we do not move to the cloud solution and stay with our on-premise version we will miss some new features. I rate the price of Dell PowerProtect DD a three out of five.

The price of the backup appliance is slightly expensive. Compared to other vendors, the pricing will be slightly higher. The backup software from Dell that you can use to operate the Data Domain is very cheap, and there are many different plans that can be purchased as a subscription or full license.
Buying Dell EMC PowerProtect DD (Data Domain), our clients don't have to pay for extra licenses. They can just buy any backup solution. For example, they can buy Dell EMC Avamar, or they can buy Symantec, Convault, etc. When buying IDPA products, you don't have to buy anything, because you'll have an integrated solution: a data domain appliance plus software, the software being Dell EMC software which is a big package of software that allows you to do everything. When buying Dell EMC PowerProtect DD (Data Domain), you can just buy a very cool backup software with deduplication, and that's all. It's very perfect, very nice. You can buy the backup software, e.g. Dell EMC, Convault, Symantec, etc. Pricing for this product could still be improved, though several years ago, its price was very high. When there are more competitors, though, the price becomes more attractive both for the customer and partner. Now we can get more discounts for projects. The price for this product will decrease, because more and more companies now produce integrated devices, e.g. deduplication is not a very new technology, but it was a feature that was limited to several market leaders.
The solution was cheap; now it's becoming more expensive. For example, if you buy it for 10 terabytes, you have to buy 10 terabyte also of software for it. It's called the capacity software. It increased our prices.

The licensing was not an issue because it is related to the software part. I'm not really sure about the price, because I think we've gotten a discount as we are partners.

Lenovo is cheaper than Dell.

Dell PowerProtect DD's pricing is expensive, and there is no option for perpetual licensing.

It's hard for me to rate PowerProtect on pricing because it's a large suite of products, with devices at various price points.
The licensing for this solution has a higher price point than comparable products on the market, and the licenses are payable monthly.

The price is reasonable. However, it varies from project to project. While we've tried cheaper options, the features just weren't as good.

We usually buy products at the end year, and the license is included.
The yearly subscription is very affordable for our customers, but the price could be a little cheaper overall.
