Dell EMC Unity XT reviews

We are running 3,000 VMs spread out over five such units.

The initial Unity x50 series, even all-flash, were quickly driving the CPU to near 100% on as little as 180TB, having data reduction on all volumes in place.

XT came in to support and sizes better on our infra, due to more CPU power. The system doesn't seem to have a module to offload data reduction, but in the end, does a great job of getting the data reduction to come around at higher capacity without oversubscribing the CPU (%). In the end, the SDD media cost more than the array/storage processors. So basically you want to reduce data as much as the system can take.

We use our Dell system as a database. Another team, specifically the DPA team, manages this. It is amazing. We are using Oracle as our primary database and MySQL as an additional database. However, we do not have a central database because we operate as a bank. There is no appliance on the Oracle database using Oracle React.

Dell and a partner jointly implemented this solution in Auvink. We installed the Flash, which makes our IO operations fast and efficient. Replication is available, allowing us to replicate data simultaneously from one site to another. All-flash technology and vTXT enhance speed, and the IOPS are faster. The cache's IOPS are much better. Snapshots provide a unique feature for testing and make management more comfortable and easy. The platform is multi-supported and certification is more convenient and easy to manage.

We've used both Unity 380 and Unity 480. My experience is very good, and I never had a problem so far.

It is running on one of the biggest hospitals in the Asia Pacific where the OPD is 9,800 OPDs a day and 3,500 priority patients, handling about 30,000 core records, - both images as well as data. 

Unity XT 380 is for the entire production of data from one hospital. It includes the patients, geographical information, payment information, and everything. On XT 480 we have all the information relating to CTs and MRIs of all the patients - basically all the images. We have about 256TBs of data there. 

The data compression technology is very good. It's very good at fetching data as well.

It's very good if there are ever any failures. We've never had an issue with storage. 

There's deduplication available. 

It's easy to set up.

We use it for virtualization. We have all of our servers virtualized on the entire unit.

The performance has been outstanding. It's amazing.

We currently have two Dell EMC Unities going. One of them at our primary on-premise DR site. They communicate with each other. If we ever have to failover, it is right there and ready.

We have integrated Dell EMC Unity XT with VMware, Exchange, Microsoft SQL, and all types of Windows servers running on it. It outperforms any other physical hardware that I have ever had. We had to purchase the licenses for the Exchange and SQL servers. We also had to purchase VMware, and that could be cheaper.

We are also using it with our Veeam solution for our backup. Everything is just integrated so seamlessly. It is great.

I work with Dell Unity XT to configure and set up projects based on customer requirements. We use it mainly for storage solutions, integrating and setting them up according to needs.

Currently, the product is still in a unique environment and hasn't been fully utilized in active projects, so I cannot comment on the impact it has had on our organization as of now.

As customers, we use it to manage CCTV camera files. It serves as the file server for sharing and storage purposes.

The storage management is superb, with a user-friendly graphical interface and dashboards. The performance is good, and it has high reliability for data applications. 

The integration, dashboards, and analytics are excellent. It gives me immediate output and quick access to the reports I need promptly.

We were able to consolidate from multiple types of disks into a single group of disks of the same speed. Now, we do not have to worry about preparing pools of disks for each server application. Instead, they are all using the same disks but getting a faster response due to the nature of the solid-state drives.

I like the fact that you can use a solid-state array (all-flash array) for your servers. It has a very intuitive web console that runs in HTML5 and makes navigation and administration fairly easy.

We use the solution for site recovery manager, DR, and endpoint penetration. Dell Unity XT is integrated with vCenter. It has automation and is configured automatically in Vcenter.

It would be great if the solution could integrate an NVMe disk.
