What is our primary use case?
I use Infor LX for the manufacturing business at our plant. I mainly use it for operations such as purchasing, engineering master data, shop floor, inventory, and customer orders. It is important to note that I do not use Infor LX for financial purposes, we use another Financial ERP integrated with LX
What is most valuable?
One of the major advantages of Infor LX is the stability of the program. I have been running it for ten years with no major issues. Additionally, it is flexible enough to adapt to my requirements.
Other Enterprise Resource Planning solutions require a high cost for maintenance due to consultancy fees, but Infor LX allows me to develop external programs connected with the ERP to cover my needs. Specifically, it has the capability to handle inventory and manage all processes around production, covering approximately 85% of my needs with the standard, the other 15% with small apps.
What needs improvement?
The interface we use currently needs enhancement, as I am still using the outdated green screens. I would benefit for us to adpot the latest INFOR user interface, which is a more integrated interface.
Additionally, improvements in warehouse handling with handheld terminal, quality management in warehouses, and managing a dual sourcing strategy would be beneficial. I have had to build my own applications for some features that are lacking, and aligning all components for uncertainty management in the market is necessary.
For how long have I used the solution?
I implemented Infor LX in 2014, which is more than ten years ago.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Infor LX is highly stable. I have been using it for over ten years without any major issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
While I believe Infor LX can scale effectively, I have not escalated my use of this application since it's only used in one plant. I am aware of companies that have scaled the software for multiple plants successfully.
How are customer service and support?
Technical and product support is mainly provided by personnel in India, USA and Europe, though the main issues related wit small service request, training and so are dealt by our AMS people.
Although the support is generally adequate, availability of resources can occasionally be an issue. However, the capability of the support team is satisfactory.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Previously, I used a version of Infor LX called BPCS. I migrated from BPCS to Infor LX because it seemed like the natural progression for my industrial setup. I did not actively choose another software as Infor was already installed.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was not as smooth as anticipated due to several integration issues with some surrounding INFOR products just released. I had challenges especially with the integration of Infor ION, Infor Supply Exchange, and Automotive Exchange with LX, which required developing workarounds. The transition from BPCS to LX presented additional challenges, but it eventually stabilized, and since some months after go live, it's been very stable.
What about the implementation team?
In the implementation project, I used INFOR team together with our technicians. I had to ensure the training of personnel and support them through the transition.
I can say that the level of vendor team was great, able to sort out all issues we came across.
Today, I use an AMS contract with a subcontractor in Spain to provide support for incidents and small development tasks.
What was our ROI?
I have not precisely calculated the return on investment, however, the clear benefits include stability and the ability to cover a significant portion of my operational needs.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I purchased five licenses recently. Maybe the cost can be considered expensive on a tight budget, but I do not perceive the global cost of Infor LX to be high, especially when compared to other ERP like SAP. Both licensing and maintenance costs for Infor LX are manageable.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I did a thoroughly evaluation when my headquarters initially planned to migrate from BPCS to SAP, but finally we discarded this idea. I did not pursue other options, my focus was on upgrading to the latest version of Infor LX.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend migrating to SAP for full ERP integration across a big corporation with many companies and plants. However, for mid-sized manufacturing companies not requiring highly integrated business, Infor LX can be a great solution due to its flexibility and affordability.
I rate LX as an eight on a scale of one to ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises
