Prominent pros & cons

PROS

Amazon EBS is valued for its scalability, allowing users to easily scale the block storage from terabytes to gigabytes, enhancing server migration and management.
Users appreciate the backup and snapshot features, which provide crucial data retention and recovery options during unexpected scenarios.
The persistent and reliable nature of Amazon EBS makes it suitable for secure document storage, with the added benefit of default encryption for security.
Amazon EBS offers a cost-effective pay-as-you-go model, allowing users to incur costs based on actual storage usage, leading to significant cost savings over physical hard drives.
The integration with other Amazon services like EC2, S3, and Glacier is seamless, enabling a comprehensive and efficient cloud environment.

CONS

Performance improvements are needed, especially in handling large traffic volumes and optimizing sequencing and IOPS relative to cost.
There are challenges with cost management, as EBS volumes are high-performance but compared unfavorably to other cloud vendors in terms of pricing.
Accessibility and resource sharing across multiple regions and availability zones require improvements, including the introduction of multi-availability zone support.
Flexibility in resizing, particularly scaling down, is necessary, alongside adding auto-scaling features similar to those in RDS for EBS volumes in EC2 or EKS.
Data immutability and enhanced scalability are areas where EBS needs further development, with other solutions currently relied upon for greater scalability.

The most valuable feature of the solution is backup...Amazon EBS is a very good product since it is very easy to enhance or increase and migrate your servers immediately, in a matter of seconds.

One of the most valuable was snapshots. There were scenarios in which the whole EC2 crashed, or we were unable to use it for some time, but the data on the mounted volumes were crucial to us. So, at that time, snapshots were very helpful.

The most important feature is the volume types in those hundred EDS. For example, if you need a volume with high IOPS, you should choose an io2 or io2 Block Express volume type. The default volume type for EBS is GP3, which is a good balance of performance and price for most workloads.

In Amazon EBS, it is difficult to reduce the space chosen by the customer. The cost increases the moment the size of the storage increases, and I will have to pay for two TB of the tool instead of one TB.

I think performance can be improved.

There is room for improvement in terms of file storage. Recently, we had a scenario in which, in a file share, we had increased the IOPS capacity; this was for the production environment.

It is hard to access EBS volumes in different Availability Zones (AZs) because most EBS volumes are created in a single AZ.

The cost of using EBS is high compared to other cloud vendors such as Tencent Cloud or CARI Cloud. Some costs are generated immediately and some are likely to increase.
