What is our primary use case?
We use the solution for email security. We were getting phishing and impersonation attacks. We noticed that we (IT) were getting emails asking if random emails were legit, which were obviously not. This scared us and we began to worry about ransomware since we deal with sensitive customer/client info. We needed a solution fast. Being a small company, we needed the biggest bang for our buck so we looked at pricing, including if implementation was extra, which is more common than you think. Once implemented, it handles itself and all we have to do is review threats.
How has it helped my organization?
The product is so easy to implement; it wasn't a burden. Now, we aren't worried about any email threats as Avanan catches everything.
It has improved our organization by allowing our small IT team to keep their eyes on our whole company. We now don't have to worry about our employees clicking links that are not safe. Avanan even replaces the links to ensure they are safe.
It also catches all the impersonation emails we get that are quite sneaky - even those trying to change bank accounts and whatnot, which is definitely scary.
What is most valuable?
The customizable rules allow you to change aspects.
It's so easy to implement using AD.
When looking for a solution, we wanted an easy implementation that didn't cost more and was fast, that is used an active directory, and was cost-effective (since we are a smaller company).
With our small IT team of 2 people, we can just set rules initially and be done with it.
You can create rules with good sensitivity and can create rules along the way, like allowing whitelist and blacklist rules, which is nice.
What needs improvement?
I would say no improvements are necessary. They are constantly making upgrades and improvements.
The only thing that used to bug me, which they fixed, was when I cleared alerts or any activity, it wouldn't clear very quickly so I didn't know if they were cleared or not.
Another issue, which is not that bad, is it can be a little over-sensitive. Sometimes it seemed like the allow list wasn't working. I've created many allow list rules however, they still seem to be blocked; the same is true with the blocked list rules.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used the solution for a little over a year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We have no doubt in terms of the stability of this product.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This product can be used for any scale of business.
How are customer service and support?
They have the best customer service.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We have the built-in Microsoft "protection". We use Avanan on top of it, as MS doesn't catch anything.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was very easy.
What about the implementation team?
We handled the setup in-house; I implemented it.
What was our ROI?
The product has paid for itself within a few months.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
This product is the best choice for pricing. For implementation, you don't even need the end-users to do anything.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Yes, we looked at many options, especially McAfee and the other big-name brands.
What other advice do I have?
We never looked back, no regrets on picking Avanan.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Private Cloud
