Actifio enables quick and efficient data refreshes
The product is scalable. However, to ensure optimal scalability, you need to work on the underlying hardware and resources. For example, if your network has limited bandwidth, you need to identify and address the bottlenecks by increasing resources. The product is designed to be scalable, but it requires attention to the underlying resources to ensure sufficient capacity. For example, they have the appliance on a given server. And that server would work till a certain stage. Then if you see that the resources are low or have reached the capacity, you have to next level of the VM, like, in terms of if there is a memory or CPU or from the appliance to wherever you are hosting, wherever you are presenting that virtual disk, that network traffic, if you see that network traffic is reaching capacity, then you have to add additional. So it's scalable from the design perspective, but you have to work on the underlying resources to make sure they also have that capacity.

Easy to use, offers good scalability and responsive support
The deployment depends on the environment. Deploying on VMs is relatively simple. But for most of our customers, we implement physical clusters with at least three configured hosts using the existing model. So, it depends on the setup. Implementing DataProtect itself wasn't particularly challenging. One key requirement for successful DataProtect deployment is proper network configuration. If the network setup isn't right, you won't achieve optimal performance. We have developed a service for some of our customers where they implement an appliance or physical cluster of Cohesity at the customer site. Then, we use cloud clustering to replicate, and even in production, a second copy of the protected data. And in some cases, we have developed some disaster recovery procedures using Cohesity.

"It's completely reliable and easy to restore."
"The restores are easy to do and have made it so that we can incorporate restores into our troubleshooting processes."
"It has a lightning fast restore."
"The most valuable features of Cohesity DataProtect are SpanFS and the handling of hybrid workloads."
"The ability to essentially instantly recover a VM and have it run on the Cohesity Platform while all those bits are technically being recovered in the background is useful to us."
"The system automatically takes down the nodes one at a time and performs the upgrade and brings the node back up before proceeding to the next. Upgrades can now be done at any time with a high level of confidence."
"No longer does it take several hours to backup a VM or troubleshoot a backup issue."

Cons

"The initial setup is complex."
"Google has stopped supporting the on-premise version of the tool."
"Areas that need improvement would be the support for recovery in the physical environment."
"While the product does support various databases, the company needs to make more of an effort to support N-minus-one compatibility."
"The solution doesn't support AIX software or in-cloud, and we have a lot of servers running on AIX and Oracle."
"Lacks the option to price backup costs within the solution itself."
"We have had our share of minor bugs over the past two years and a few bigger ones."
"The support team could do a better job. Sometimes finding the correct person is cumbersome and time consuming."
"Microsoft Exchange online mailbox backups would be fantastic."
"We have Oracle databases running on Linux servers in our environment and we have found the Oracle backups were quite complex to setup."
"Reporting is one area that isn't as robust as it could be."
"The support team sometimes takes a long time to resolve issues, although, in our experience, these have been specific things like SQL blobs."
"I'd like to be able to pause a backup while it's running and have it resume when I tell it to resume."
"I would like to see Microsoft Exchange DAG supported as soon as possible."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Support is very good. They send out a VM link and help you fix any issues."
"Actifio is cheaper than other tools."
"Pricing is on a case by case basis."
"Sizing is important and it is easy to overestimate."
"The solution's pricing is quite high, more so than that of its competitors, Veeam, Veritas and Rubrik."
"We purchased support from Cohesity to ensure that should we face an issue, we don't have to deal with different service providers."
"Licensing is per node and per protected terabyte. You will also pay 10-15% annually for support."
"The ROI is huge. Not really measurable at this point, but the price of the unit was a fraction of what a couple hours of downtime could result in."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a seven out of ten."
"From my last assessment, the pricing for Cohesity DataProtect was reasonable. Compared to its closest competitor, Rubrik, I found Rubrik's pricing to be somewhat high-end. While Rubrik may have more advanced security features than Cohesity DataProtect currently, Cohesity DataProtect is releasing a new solution in the near future that will compete directly with Rubrik."
"With respect to pricing, make sure that you look at both Rubrik and Cohesity as they are very similar and are quite competitive."
