Doesn't have many proprietary protocols but some models have stability issues
We had stability issues with Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch Ethernet Switches 6250. One issue is with licensing. When migrating from TDM to VoIP/ToIP solutions integrated on the same architecture, Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch Ethernet Switches don't have the same skill level or follow the same development path as companies like Cisco. They started integrating these solutions later, which is why there's a noticeable difference in advancement. Their main focus has been IP PBX solutions like OXO and OXE. They developed their IP environment and switches later, but not as deeply as other vendors. For example, they use Aruba access points and controllers for wireless solutions rather than developing their own portfolio. A specific challenge I've faced is with access points. Due to country code restrictions, the model sold in one region (like Europe) may not work properly in another. This affects channels and features related to the electronic environment specific to each country. To resolve this issue, I've had to reconfigure access points with the correct country code. The solution uses basic protocols. It doesn't have proprietary features like Cisco's EIGRP or advanced BGP features; it's based on standard protocols.

Remote access enhances troubleshooting with potential for more intuitive interface
We are working with Citrix and router, but in Cisco for Cisco vendor only. We are taking from them since 2015.  The main use case involves some small business customers needing one router, one switch, and two to three access points. It is easy to handle the devices with just a small knowledge of…

Pros

"This is a dependable switch which will help you sleep at night."
"The new web graphical interface is much better than before. We now have easy access to the command lines. They're all functional."
"Enables direct access to clusters."
"The fibre ports that are 10 Gb capacity helped with the travel of a lot of regular as well as video data. Fibre can handle a lot more virtual data than copper twisted-pair, so we got a lot more data and a lot more traffic signals back through the fibre ports, faster, than with copper."
"We are able to customize this solution based on the customer's requirements."
"The product's initial setup phase is not complex. It is easy to install the tool."
"The solution has a very good web interface. It makes it easy to manage everything."
"It's easy to extend the stack, We don't use the smaller switches, but it's going well for the rest."
"The most beneficial features of Meraki MS Switches are the visibility and convenience they provide."
"It is easy to work with."
"One of the most valuable features of Meraki MS Switches is its precise traffic analytics capabilities, allowing us to query the system for any place at any time."
"You can access a single pane of glass and configure all the devices via the same access."
"They're easy to update."
"The initial setup is easy."
"I like that I can patch and manage them remotely from the user portal."
"The stability and workflow of Meraki MS Switches have most improved our network management."

"In future versions, I would like to see improvements in networking speed."
"The network connection should be improved."
"There needs to be better integration with the interface."

"I could see them possibly creating a more intuitive software. It's very user-friendly, but there are some things that aren't very intuitive when programming the switches."
"The product's high price is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"Meraki should include an application to assist users with the design of access points."
"Tracking native ports with IP addresses is not currently possible in Meraki. This is a potential area of improvement."
"The solution needs to improve its ability to back up the auto-configuration."
"It would be great if the switch can identify the IP address connected to the network port. It seems most of the switches cannot identify the IP address. They can identify the MAC address but not the IP address."
"It would be helpful to have more features like an iOS interface."
"The traffic reporting should be better in Meraki MS Switches. We want to be able to see all the traffic and where it is going. Additionally, detailed device utilization information would be very helpful for the security personnel."
"There is not much training available for this solution."

"I rate the price of Meraki MS Switches a two out of ten."
"It is very expensive so I want it to be cheaper."

"The tool is expensive."
"Securing licenses and devices for more than a year can make the product expensive. In general, the product is expensive."
