Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's simple to use with a lot of functions."
"Anaplan's strongest feature is that its GUI is very modern and user-friendly."
"The solution works very well for budgeting."
"Anaplan provides 130 GB of cloud storage for organizations to use as part of their license."
"The features that I have found most valuable are that it is web-based and easy to use."
"Anaplan integrates well into my clients' core systems. The ability to aggregate the forms within the dashboarding is also useful. Only one of my clients has implemented workflow. Their usage has been very light. Dashboarding capability is probably the biggest one. My clients like having the ability to aggregate, slice and dice, and dynamically adjust things in the dashboards."
"Anaplan offers flexibility in building different options within the platform."
"Anaplan's in-memory calculation engine is super-fast compared to the old tools we previously used. You enter the data and everything shows up in one go."
"Oracle Hyperion is an engine allowing you to build whatever you want on it."
"We can integrate with any system and pull data from SAP or SQL Server. We can also design our own role files to establish how we pull the file data and store it in our database."
"The tool is very scalable and powerful. It helps us with financial reporting and performance reporting. It is a very good tool for consolidation and budgeting. We are dependent on it for reporting."
"The platform is very easy to use from a user perspective, especially for nontechnical experts."
"The implementation has been simplified now that it's deployed in the cloud. Also, Hyperion is tightly integrated with Oracle products because Oracle owns it now."
"Oracle Hyperion has helped make things work faster in our company."
"Functionality-wise, it is what they say it is. It is the best in class, but it all ties back to your users. If your users are completely enamored with Excel spreadsheets, then breaking those habits is hard."
"The most valuable features are those associated with modules and SP, IT in this space, planning, HFM, and PME."

Cons

"The solution can improve by providing an easier form of integration to different platforms, such as receiving data from different Salesforce. There is a process to do it through the use of some APIs but it could be made much easier. This would be a large help to us."
"The solution could improve by better dashboards and while entering the form loss and project implementation the ability to use graphical shapes more effectively."
"Anaplan could be improved with a stronger consolidation module."
"One area of improvement is conditional formatting. It's not very practical, and you need to specify additional formatting."
"The integration technique should be a little bit easier."
"The visualization tools in the product are limited in comparison to other reporting tools."
"The cloud engine slows down when working with a large dataset. It still lacks a powerful engine."
"Space and integration are a problem."
"Configuration is a little complex, it's not very easy. The solution is integrated with Essbase and there are not many users of the Essbase database. If they can provide different modules for each subject area, like supply chain, for inventory forecasting or for order management forecasting, it would make each subject area easier to manage."
"From a technical perspective, the technical support could be improved and the price could be reduced."
"Their documentation could be a little bit more descriptive at places. They don't really do a lot of How-Tos because that gets pushed through to the consulting groups. There have been some books. There is a real good one out there about how to look smarter than you are with Hyperion Planning that some people at a company called ArganoInterRel wrote. Those things do exist, but that's not in their documentation. It's basically like they'll say, "This is the field. This is what it's used for," but they don't tell you how to particularly use it in your case environment."
"All the planning systems out there are great. It doesn't matter which company you use. They're all great. I've seen demonstrations on a number of them, but it all boils down to the culture within the organization itself to use that functionality, understand it, and help drive it. I've had Oracle salespeople do demonstrations, and it looked really good. We get it on board, and everybody still sticks to their Excel spreadsheets because companies are a lot more complex than what you could deliver on the planning system. So, there should be more education on the capabilities, and there should be more understanding of organizations in terms of the way they access the data in order to plan."
"They could support machine learning algorithms for the product."
"I found the initial setup to be complex."
"Oracle Hyperion generally it's quite a complex architecture that is hard to maintain."
"The Oracle technical support in our area is terrible."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The cost of Anaplan is a challenge for clients, especially if they don't have an ongoing long-term use case for it. It's a $50,000 licensing fee just to get started. Clients need a strong business case to switch from Excel to Anaplan. But if clients have used something similar in the past, such as Hyperion or other solutions, that's not a factor because they know what to expect."
"This is a yearly subscription. So a customer initially buys a workspace and specifies how much GB they want. The minimum starts at around 30 GB. You can buy multiple workspaces."
"The license is a yearly subscription. There are three licensing tiers: the model builder, planner, and the reporting."
"This is an expensive product and if the price were reduced then it would attract more customers."
"The entry-level is anywhere from about $30,000 to $50,000 a year, however, it does go up significantly after that depending on the complexity and how much space you're using."
"A value-for-money product and a very reasonable price compared to competitors like SAP or IBM."
"We are currently using a free workspace license for 90 days. We are satisfied with the price of the solution. There are additional costs if you want more storage, the default limit is 250 GB."
"The tool’s pricing is reasonable and competitive with other solutions."
"The licensing cost for the on-premises version of the solution is too high."
"Oracle Hyperion is not an inexpensive solution."
"Oracle Hyperion's licensing structures are quite expensive for some companies, especially medium-sized companies because of the user-based license."
"As Oracle's pricing is on the higher end, most businesses prefer to have their own private cloud."
"It might be considered relatively costly compared to some alternatives."
"To get a full license, which gives you access to most of the different Hyperion programs, it costs $2000 to $2500 a month."
"The licenses cost approximately $1,000."
"We pay for licensing yearly."
