Apigee empowers effective API management while needing improvements in technical support
There is room for improvement with Apigee as OPDK private cloud enhancements have stopped, focusing only on Apigee hybrid and Apigee X, with Google no longer adding new features to OPDK private cloud. I am not currently utilizing AI in the private cloud with Apigee, but I'm unsure about hybrid and Apigee X.

Has required significant improvements due to limited features but offers simple implementation and good support
Boomi AtomSphere API Management has very few features. If you ask me to name the top two, I would say MuleSoft and Apigee, as it depends on the customer-to-customer use cases. After those, WSO2, Kong, and whether you say Informatica API Manager or Boomi AtomSphere API Management, they stand with only three out of ten features which are essential for API management. All the features that Apigee has, they need to add. All the features that MuleSoft has, they need to add. It is not a simple task. The problem is that they lack features. It is not their performance. There are many features to mention. When you take and compare all the features that Apigee has and all the features that MuleSoft has, they need to implement those features.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"This solution is much easier to set up compared to any of the other API gateway solutions."
"API/proxy lifecycle workflow for API providers is quite good and one of Apigee's strongest features."
"The most valuable feature is monetization."
"It has all the features necessary to work in anything from a basic scenario to advanced applications."
"Tracing in Apigee is a very good feature."
"One of the best parts of this solution is the implementation as we did not need to use code or out-of-box policies."
"Apigee is relatively easy to use for developers."
"The capabilities are very powerful."
"We can create APIs straightforwardly and quickly and build jobs for data migration."
"Boomi allows for more secure URLs and easy customization of HTTP and HTTPS protocols, which I find very beneficial."
"Boomi AtomSphere API Management is a good product for integrating with Boomi as a backend service."
"The user interface, which we use to create the integration, basically has the data structures collected, is pretty easy to navigate, is a drag and drop style of working, and there is very little code required so the creation of the endpoints is very simple."
"The product's stability is good."
"AtomSphere API Management is a simple platform that's easy to use. If you're using it on-prem, there's a little learning curve."
"AtomSphere is tightly integrated into the Boomi iPaaS platform. And Boomi has been augmenting AtomSphere API Management for the past couple of years so version 2.0 is better than 1.0."
"Integration is straightforward. There is no issue with it."

Cons

"Apigee is demanding on the infrastructure so the setup cost is very high for an on-premises deployment."
"The entire user across all the layers should be singly authenticated through an external authentication system."
"There should be an integrated continuous integration and continuous deployment approach with Apigee. Currently, for development at a more integrated level, you have set it up yourself."
"The cost of the solution is quite high."
"Overall, we have had to invest more time than expected to do that setup."
"Apigee is more of an entry level solution that does basic things pretty well, but if you want to go more customizable, you want to really look for another solution."
"The initial setup for the on-prem solution is a little complex, but the hybrid setup is very easy because detailed steps are provided."
"We found a glitch in Apigee, and we raised it with them: It's the response overlapping from the API with high traffic."
"The API management has room for improvement."
"To some degree, you need to know what type or amount of API you are creating - whether it's a rest API or web service API. You need to know ETL in order to really get the most out of Boomi."
"Overall, I would rate AtomSphere lower than solutions like APG or API Connect."
"From an improvement perspective, the price could be cheaper."
"It's difficult to integrate the on-prem application with the Dell Boomi Cloud. We have to check to ensure the Dell domain engine is running. It just requires some service endpoints from our on-prem application to connect to Dell Boomi Cloud to make it available to integrate. It would be better if AtomSphere API Management were offered as a purely SaaS application, so I wouldn't need an on-prem component to make it available. We could make a test call or provide some connection parameters. That should enable it to pull the data."
"The product is really complex to manage."
"The solution must provide more AI services."
"Most of the basic functionality is there in Boomi, but APG is a more feature-rich solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It was fairly expensive. I don't know what the standard pricing is. I want to say that it's something like $80,000 for 800 million requests (approximately) a year."
"The product's pricing is fair. You need to pay additional costs for the support."
"The solution’s pricing could be more competitive."
"It is not suited for small companies. It's expensive."
"My clients pay for a license."
"It is a bit on the expensive side. Its licensing cost is a bit high, and that's where we've seen people going back on their decisions."
"The prices are comparable."
"Apigee is expensive and not cost-effective. On a scale of one to ten, I would rate it an eight for the high cost. The changes individuals need to make on their side are costly."
"The product can get very expensive quickly if you connect to multiple databases."
"The price is reasonable."
"Boomi AtomSphere API Management is a cheap product."
"Boomi AtomSphere API Management gives customers a good price. Price-wise, the product is good."
