Centralized API gateway has improved microservice security and provided deep traffic analytics
Apigee's API gateway could be improved. There are some limitations for high throughputs, which we can address. Overall, Apigee is a robust API management platform where we can configure centralized traffic management, but there are a few areas for improvement. The developer experience could be more intuitive, especially for configurations and complex API proxies and policies. Debugging production issues can sometimes be challenging, so more detailed diagnostic and easier-to-use troubleshooting tools would be valuable. The analytics dashboard could offer more customization and deeper insights without requiring additional configuration. Simplifying pricing and licensing would make Apigee more accessible for smaller organizations. I would like better support for cloud-native deployments, Kubernetes integrations, and AI-assisted policy recommendations. I would also like to see AI-assisted troubleshooting, more customizable analytics and developer portal, better enterprise documentation, easier policy configuration, and a simplified licensing model to enhance both the developer experience and day-to-day operations.

Has required significant improvements due to limited features but offers simple implementation and good support
Boomi AtomSphere API Management has very few features. If you ask me to name the top two, I would say MuleSoft and Apigee, as it depends on the customer-to-customer use cases. After those, WSO2, Kong, and whether you say Informatica API Manager or Boomi AtomSphere API Management, they stand with only three out of ten features which are essential for API management. All the features that Apigee has, they need to add. All the features that MuleSoft has, they need to add. It is not a simple task. The problem is that they lack features. It is not their performance. There are many features to mention. When you take and compare all the features that Apigee has and all the features that MuleSoft has, they need to implement those features.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I have found the most valuable features to be tracing a proxy, and managing proxy versions and revisions via the Edge UI component."
"I'm still evaluating, but in terms of overall performance and stability, it's quite good."
"The installation is straightforward. You just need to get a license for Apigee and then configure the reverse proxy."
"The most valuable features are low-code play, quick packaging, and production."
"It's a good return on my investment."
"Implementation success would depend on having a good API architecture and design, using analytics, and following best practices of the lifecycle management provided by tool."
"The initial setup was easy - there was an onboarding document with steps that we followed."
"The use case which I have installed serves the intended purpose."
"Boomi AtomSphere API Management is a good product for integrating with Boomi as a backend service."
"Integrations take less time."
"We can develop almost any interface that we need."
"AtomSphere API Management is a simple platform that's easy to use. If you're using it on-prem, there's a little learning curve."
"AtomSphere is tightly integrated into the Boomi iPaaS platform. And Boomi has been augmenting AtomSphere API Management for the past couple of years so version 2.0 is better than 1.0."
"We can create APIs straightforwardly and quickly and build jobs for data migration."
"Integration is straightforward. There is no issue with it."
"Boomi allows for more secure URLs and easy customization of HTTP and HTTPS protocols, which I find very beneficial."

Cons

"Pricing is an area that can be improved, as it is a little on the higher side."
"The initial setup for the on-prem solution is a little complex, but the hybrid setup is very easy because detailed steps are provided."
"The solution is pretty expensive."
"Apigee is quite pricey. The price is a thorny issue as there is little room for negotiation."
"More documentation on the Open Banking Standard will help."
"GCP is improving the regular version control. There have been some challenges when we talk about the hybrid deployment model. For example, some runtime services' data was available only on the cloud, but financial institutions and other customers have requested more on-site data storage. This is especially important in regions where Google data centers are unavailable, such as certain areas in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East."
"The solution could add even more functionalities."
"We found a glitch in Apigee, and we raised it with them: It's the response overlapping from the API with high traffic."
"It's difficult to integrate the on-prem application with the Dell Boomi Cloud. We have to check to ensure the Dell domain engine is running. It just requires some service endpoints from our on-prem application to connect to Dell Boomi Cloud to make it available to integrate. It would be better if AtomSphere API Management were offered as a purely SaaS application, so I wouldn't need an on-prem component to make it available. We could make a test call or provide some connection parameters. That should enable it to pull the data."
"Scalability is an area where Boomi lacks."
"Most of the basic functionality is there in Boomi, but APG is a more feature-rich solution."
"Overall, I would rate AtomSphere lower than solutions like APG or API Connect."
"The API management has room for improvement."
"The product is really complex to manage."
"Boomi AtomSphere API Management has very few features. If you ask me to name the top two, I would say MuleSoft and Apigee, as it depends on the customer-to-customer use cases."
"From an improvement perspective, the price could be cheaper."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The prices are comparable."
"In Latin America, Apigee is expensive. It's not for small businesses; it's more for big businesses."
"Apigee is expensive and not cost-effective. On a scale of one to ten, I would rate it an eight for the high cost. The changes individuals need to make on their side are costly."
"It is not suited for small companies. It's expensive."
"The current version of Apigee is not too expensive, but we are currently in talks with Google to understand their roadmap for Apigee X. However, we anticipate that with the introduction of Apigee X, the pricing will likely increase."
"The solution’s pricing could be more competitive."
"I would like to see the implementation of further options for billing because as it is now, the opportunities you have in terms of a package are limited."
"The tool is extremely expensive."
"Boomi AtomSphere API Management gives customers a good price. Price-wise, the product is good."
"The price is reasonable."
"Boomi AtomSphere API Management is a cheap product."
"The product can get very expensive quickly if you connect to multiple databases."
