Provides high visibility and control with good traffic monitoring
Analytics is one of the areas needing enhancement, specifically more visibility and control over traffic to improve capacity management and high availability. The replication process between Master and Slave for disaster recovery takes too long. Dependencies on analytics impact the performance of the user interface, which should be separate. The complex setup process on-premises, especially with multi-node installations, could also be improved. Additional control in product declarations, based on operations like POST and GET, is needed.

Easy to deploy APIs and easy to manage CORS configuration
I have used WSO2 Store and WSO2 API Manager at the architecture level. I worked on two versions, namely WSO2 API Manager 2.6.0 and 5.7.0. I have also worked with WSO2 Identity Server versions 5.7 and 5.11. There are certain things that Apigee handles better than WSO2 API Manager. The user interface of WSO2 API Manager is much easier than that of Apigee. The scope of flexibility was much greater in Apigee. In WSO2 API Manager, we had little flexibility and were restricted to a specific software or tool. On the other hand, we had the scope of customization in Apigee.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Apigee is relatively easy to use for developers."
"Technical support has been decent."
"This is a front-layer gateway that helps to improve our overall performance."
"The initial setup isn't too complex."
"Apigee is very easy to use, and you can code in any language."
"The drag-and-drop and click-through functionalities, alongside minimal code requirements, make Apigee valuable. It is intuitive and user-friendly."
"It nice and easy for the clients and those using the product to access the product's help resources."
"I'm still evaluating, but in terms of overall performance and stability, it's quite good."
"We could easily deploy APIs on WSO2 API Manager, and CORS configuration was easy to manage."
"There are a lot of tools to help the manager. WSO2 is very easy to install. It has all the principal functionalities that you think about when you want to put up the management solution. It's a very friendly tool."
"It is possible to scale up and scale down with the solution...I can say that I have not seen any issues related to scalability."
"This is a flexible and versatile API management solution that has the power to integrate with more than just API."
"The solution is stable."
"It's a good product."
"Based on the information I have, the solution's most valuable feature is its capability of implementing custom solutions."
"Yes WSO2 API Manager is scalable"

Cons

"Apigee is not a solution compatible with public clouds, making it one of its shortcomings where improvements are required."
"Drag and drop of features would be more beneficial, rather than manually working on the configuration and updates."
"There should be an integrated continuous integration and continuous deployment approach with Apigee. Currently, for development at a more integrated level, you have set it up yourself."
"I would like to see the monitoring, dashboards, and reports improve."
"The solution is pretty expensive."
"Unlike WSA, Apigee does not have a partnership model, something which makes it a bit easier for companies such as ours to go with the former solution."
"The integration could be improved within the solution. There is a need to pay more attention to this."
"There is potential for improvement in specific domain integrations, such as standard integration capabilities needed for banking or retail sectors."
"I would like it to be a more convenient development platform with the ability to write orchestrations and so on. Our problem with this product is that in my country, we are the only enterprise that has been using this product. We're missing a lot of knowledge from colleagues to consult with, and we also aren't able to recruit people with relevant skills. It is a big problem. The small team that is maintaining this product is the only team that can actually relate to any technical issue. The support that we're getting from the company is not great. There is also a cultural gap there because they're from Sri Lanka, and it is not easy. They're putting in a lot of effort, but they are not meeting our expectations."
"Basically, mTLS is a certificate-based communication protocol that WSO2 API Manager doesn't support."
"Integration is an area that needs to be improved."
"From what I have experienced from the versions I have tried, they could improve on the multi-tenant environments to allow some kind of SSO single sign-on between tenant."
"The price and the complexities attached to the solution are two areas of concern where improvements are required."
"For fresh graduates and engineers, the setup process can be very difficult."
"The solution could be more user friendly for engineers."
"The stability is pretty good, but it could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of Apigee could be less expensive. The solution can be purchased monthly or annually."
"If the budget is not a concern then I will choose to go with Apigee over WSA-2, but if it is then I would prefer the latter solution."
"The solution is a bit expensive. It's not for organizations in the early stages of their lifecycle but is more suited for mid- to enterprise-level platforms. Pricing varies by deployment model, with SaaS being the cheapest, costing around $100,000 per year for a subscription. For hybrid and on-prem deployments, the price increases. The on-prem model includes a license and additional installation and configuration professional service costs, which can be at least $40,000 to $60,000 for the initial setup. While it's not cheap, it offers long-term value and can be worthwhile."
"The tool is extremely expensive."
"My clients pay for a license."
"The cost increases as the usage increases."
"Apigee is subject to licensing fees."
"We have a contract for three years. I don't know the cost."
"There is a subscription-based pricing structure and also the open-sourced version available."
"The solution costs less than 20,000 euros a year. I'm not sure of the exact number."
"It's not expensive, but it could be cheaper."
"WSO2 API Manager is quite an expensive tool. I rate the product's pricing a nine on a scale of one to ten, where one is low and ten is high."
"The challenge is the increasing pricing, which has led some customers to consider alternatives, like using Spring Boot solutions instead. The rising costs, especially as cores and usage increase, have been a concern, prompting some to migrate to other products."
"It is costly, around ten thousand per year, per instance"
"We have not opted for the paid version of WSO2 but we have implemented the free and open source WSO2 software to a great extent and it is working as per our expectation."
"My previous company paid about 1.2 million dollars, and my current company pays about 300k. Both companies are at the enterprise level."
