Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Our customers are happy with the product’s functionality.""Easy restoration and the solution works quickly.""The recovery part of the product is very good.""The most valuable feature of StorageCraft ShadowProtect is the speed and the compression of the backups. The compressed backed-up files do not take up as much storage. Additionally, the incremental backups can be done in one minute and be backed up on a disc very fast.""There are many backup options available in this solution. For example, you are able to do backups of servers, email, OST files, and users. This is a complete backup solution which is very good.""We are satisfied with Arcserve UDP. The most important feature that we use and why we choose this product is the RHA feature.""The ROI is very good because of the speed of the backup.""The most valuable feature of Arcserve UDP is live replication."

"The reporting feature has been particularly beneficial to upper management... When you do manual backups, you do not get the benefit of seeing successes and failures and how often you have to do restores. With SnapCenter, you get all of that.""It's a centralized, easy-to-use solution empowering RBAC management, monitoring, notifications, extensive logging, and backup schedules for standalone as well as groups of the same types of environments. The cloning capabilities accelerate development.""The centralized GUI is the best feature, that there is only one webpage where we can see the states of all the backup jobs. We can see all the tasks that are running and we can quickly see if one fails; if they are running or have any issues. We have all that in one place.""The central pane view is the most valuable feature. You have one console where you can monitor all your jobs, as opposed to going to different vCenters.""The product’s most valuable feature is cloning.""The most valuable feature is the RBAC, the Role-Based Access Control. In our managed service, we can have different layers of security.""The most valuable feature is that it's centralized. In the old SnapManager days, we had software for each server. Now, with a centralized system, we're able to manage all systems remotely, and all agents remotely, and update them remotely. That's a huge benefit for us.""The simplicity of backup and restore directly with VMware is an advantage and the time to backup and restore is reduced."

Cons
"The solution can use a lot of bandwidth when the scheduling is not done, it should auto-schedule itself. For example, if there are 50 users connected in the network at 12 o'clock and the backup is not scheduled. At this time the network offices are going to have performance issues when it is doing a backup. Having a feature to auto-schedule a time when the network is not being used often would be beneficial.""I had an issue with Arcserve UDP during the failover and the secondary machine didn't get back online, even though it ran automatically. I faced the issue during a crisis situation. However, I haven't faced such a problem again.""The solution could improve by being more user-friendly. It can be difficult to assign destinations and choose which files and folders we need to back up. There are some aspects that are unclear.""The time to backup servers that sit in DMZ must be improved.""Its interface can be improved. I find it unintuitive.""We have to use a Microsoft hypervisor for installation which is expensive.""One of the biggest drawbacks of Arcserve UDP is that it does not have a single console, making it an area that needs to be considered for improvement.""StorageCraft ShadowProtect can improve by making one console that can control backups of all desktops and servers in one place. Additionally, the recovery process of the backups is very slow and could improve. It's very slow when we went to recover a complete disc but to recover one file is very fast."

"My major issue is when I upgrade. I have to touch every last client that I have in SnapCenter, and right now I have 60... They said that in another release that will get better, but right now it's not better and I've had to do this three times.""The replication feature needs improvement in future releases.""If it was possible to create backups on non-NetApp storage, that would be helpful.""We have experience some difficulties with our current support. We are engaging in engineering level support because some of our problems are more technical.""I want to see a few more features add that will help our team in managing solution better.""The documentation could be a little bit better so that we could handle more of the troubleshooting ourselves, rather than having to go through support.""It needs to support vSphere 6.7.""The DBAs are comparing it to SMO but it doesn't have a lot of the functionalities that SMO has."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "I do not work with the pricing or licensing issues of the solution for our organization."
  • "We only have the maintenance of three standard UDP licenses. Each license is 50 Euro. There are some additional costs for the storage and software but it has nothing to do with the UDP."
  • "Normally our customers purchase the premium plus license, rather than the standard one, which provides more options."
  • "The price of this product is high and it should be lower."
  • "It is approximately $400 to purchase a virtual service outright."
  • "There is an annual license required for this solution and it is priced well."
  • "Pricing is most likely comparable."
  • "The retail fee is $1300 for a year for one server. Other than that, there is just the cost of your hardware."

  • "The license for SnapCenter was included with the storage array."
  • "It comes free with the amount of equipment we purchase from NetApp. In terms of pricing, zero is my favorite number."
  • "Pricing is very good because if you already have NepApp controllers, then it's included."
  • "The licensing is well-designed because it's already included in some packages with NetApp storage. Therefore, for most customers, it's okay as the SnapCenter license is already included in some NetApp bundles."
