Offers numerous out-of-the-box connectors, user-friendly interface and easy to manage
There are some improvements. There is a feature called Playbooks, which basically allows me to automate certain activities that would otherwise be manual. It's a very interesting feature, but there is room to improve it because, depending on the task you automate, the playbooks seem to have a hard time handling the task. So, it could be improved there. Even though it's a great feature, it can evolve further. And the product as a whole Atlan could invest in features like a data marketplace. It would be interesting to have access to data because it is a data catalog, but it could also be the main marketplace where users request access to data to be able to define, and that access should be given in a seamless manner. There is room for improvement on workflows as well, like the solution. It might not be the core of the solution, but they could start investing in having very robust workflows, especially for metadata data analysis. There is a simple workflow that could be improved.

Offers profiling and address standardization but can be complicated
Informatica Data Quality has its data warehouse, primarily using Oracle and some SQL databases. You need a database to host the data. The cleansed version of the data is stored in the data warehouse. It integrates with PowerCenter and other Informatica tools. The integration details can be complex, but a regional setup is involved in this process. Profiling smaller datasets, such as 10,000-50,000 records, worked fine. However, unexpected issues could arise with larger datasets, such as thousands of records or more, especially with tables containing many columns. Handling tables with fifty or more columns can be challenging, even in Excel. A mismatch in data types could cause the entire system to crash. Continual enhancements are being made to address these issues, which can be unique to specific industries like finance and healthcare.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The best feature of Atlan is its integration with communication platforms like Microsoft Teams and Slack, so business users don't have to go into a data catalog to see metadata about data assets."
"As a senior analytics engineer, Atlan's ability to show end-to-end data lineage is the most important feature for me."
"Overall, I rate Atlan as a ten out of ten."
"The technical support services are good."
"Overall, I rate Atlan a nine out of ten."
"They also offer automated lineage embedded in the connectors, allowing us to track where the data is coming from and where it's going. We find it very efficient in cataloging data sources. Additionally, the user-friendly interface is a big plus, making it easy for users to familiarize themselves with the solution. These two features, in my opinion, stand out the most."
"The best feature of Atlan is its integration with communication platforms like Microsoft Teams and Slack, so business users don't have to go into a data catalog to see metadata about data assets."
"The AI part is integrated for enriching metadata engagement, making it a comprehensive tool."
"The solution is applicable for both technical and business users."
"Able to customize data search and data sharing."
"The features for data quality, data cataloging, and UI are excellent."
"In the latest version, I like the outlay of the business roles creation. I like seeing that visualization as you're building it, as opposed to going through metatables or XML mappings. We liked that piece, and it makes it more intuitive for the business."
"The program is stable and scalable."
"The solution offers good data governance."
"REST API: Excellent for scripting control and reporting mechanisms"
"The MDM solution is capable of integrating multiple systems, so it helped us to solve the purpose of centralizing the depository as well as the standardization of mass data. It takes away all the ambiguity around data integrity issues or all the process challenges which happen when every stage of a process uses a different source as master data."

Cons

"One of the main areas for improvement is its governance capabilities. Atlan supports only basic out-of-the-box workflows, and it becomes challenging to customize features like how data owners should approve access to data assets."
"One area that could be improved is the capability to find duplicates of datasets."
"Certain UI changes could make Atlan more user-friendly."

"The challenge is in the lineage, where it requires improvement. Atlas needs to capture areas where organizations use less known applications."

"Informatica Axon needs more integration connectors so that it can connect to systems and different kinds of datasets."
"They need more feature flexibility, as it is not fully developed."
"I would like to see support for more data sources."
"Informatica MDM has limitations with connectivity."
"It could be improved by including a buffer that saves data when there is a connectivity issue."
"One area where Informatica Cloud Data Integration could improve is in providing more accelerators for certain functionalities."
"Exploring the possibility of incorporating AI capabilities that can suggest additional rules would significantly streamline our data analysis process following data profiling."
"This is a costly solution. We have several customers who evaluate it but then look for other solutions because of the cost. At present, Informatica MDM comes as an on-premises or cloud-based solution. I would like to see them offer a SaaS-based MDM model. I think they are working on it."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We pay per-user license. It's a different classification model than with other solutions, where they usually charge you for resources. So, that was a better model for us. And because of this difference in models or classification, it was cheaper for us to go with Atlan."
"There is no doubt that it is very expensive, but the brand value comes at a cost. Other MDM solutions in the market that haven't proven themselves like Informatica are also pretty expensive. We need to understand that MDM itself is very expensive to implement. So, Informatica is also pretty expensive. I would rate it a two out of five for being pretty expensive."
"The price is high, but the competitors are even higher, like Collibra."
"I rate Informatica MDM's price a six on a scale of one to ten, where one is a low price, and ten is a high price."
"Licensing is difficult to understand, but the team is always available to explain anything. They are very helpful."
"It's pretty high for us. It's more on the higher side, like low to middle high."
"I rate the product's pricing a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive."
"Informatica Cloud Data Integration is famously known for its high price. The vendor targets large enterprises, and not medium or small companies. These large companies, and organizations, handle large amounts of data. If you go into any large bank, such as American or Canadian banks, these banks use this solution because it is more reliable, secure, and has more functionality."
"It's a costly solution"
