It is scalable and stable, but it is expensive and needs a better dashboard
The Zero Upgrade feature is the most valuable.  Its dashboard can be improved. In version 12, they have already moved to a web-based interface from a UI. We are looking into this feature now. We are also looking for available APIs that we can use to interface the engine into our other systems.…

Great ability to pre-schedule jobs but unfortunately the simulation is complicated
We use this product for batch processing. We have hundreds of users and carry out 25,000-30,000 jobs per day The solution has helped us because we have multiple node servers and the workload is distributed between them. The key valuable feature is that jobs can be triggered in multiple nodes.…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Automation helps us. It makes our lives easier. Anything that can be automated is automated."
"Both the stability and the scalability of Automic Workload Automation are great."
"We can run the solution on both cloud and on-prem environments."
"We have two nodes that are highly available. You can add new nodes if you need that. You can take a node, a total node, down and still be operating fine. It has a lot of scaling to it."
"The initial setup was quite simple because they have a manual which tells you in a simple way of how to install it step-by-step."
"It enables us to build automation which is flexible in a controlled environment."
"It is the automation. Saving time and money is the key. We automate everything."
"It will increase all delivery due to an impact on efficiency, in terms of time and faster resources."
"The whole product is valuable because it is a tool for batch automation."
"The technical support is great, the product is easy-to-use, and it is stable."
"The DWC, when configured correctly, is a great GUI tool to provide Self-Service Scheduling capabilities to the user community."
"The initial setup is easy."
"Jobs can be triggered in multiple nodes."
"I have supported this product in literally 100s of different environments and its unmatched in its ability to scale to any size."
"Jobs can be triggered in multiple nodes."
"The most valuable feature of IBM Workload Automation is its holistic view, which helps me find technical solutions quickly. For instance, if a customer has an issue completing their workload within a specific time frame, the tool provides enough information to identify and resolve the issue. One of the main challenges is dealing with data infrastructure problems and pending updates. Workload Automation helps me leverage current AI capabilities to recommend architectural updates to avoid these issues. It also allows me to balance CPU usage effectively, ensuring service level agreements are met. The interface is user-friendly and facilitates this process smoothly."

Cons

"I hope in the next release that they will solve all the bugs which they have found in development."
"The frustration that we have probably had in the past is where CA tools run for a period of time, then they get deprecated, and you have to build a new one."
"Choosing Automic Workload Automation essentially locks us into their ecosystem, making it nearly impossible to switch to a different product."
"I'd like AI to be able to consider how to monitor volume based SLAs as opposed to time based SLAs."
"There is a problem with the installation translation. It is some type of hybrid. We have some parts in German and some in English. It should be completely in German and completely in English. It should be better in the future."
"When there's an error or a problem, the automation part of it could be easily programmed to escalate it up to the developers or whoever is going to work on it. We had to home-grow that within the product because third-party products are so expensive."
"A little less button clicking, in the navigation of the tool itself would also help. There is a lot out there, and I understand that's what keeps the tool robust. It keeps our options open, but it's a bit click-y sometimes. To get where you need to go, you have to go through 10 levels."
"An area for improvement would be SQL performance. While tracing SQL traffic, we noticed a lot of commands that cause contention/locks as well as forced waits. The efficiency of the SQL could be greatly improved (in some cases by simply replacing nested Selects and using NOLOCK hints)."
"Scalability-wise, it can be a little bit challenging."
"It would be helpful to have a mobile app that could be used to follow the job schedule."
"To improve IBM Workload Automation, I suggest enhancing automation features further, as more automation would be beneficial. The product is good enough for my current customers, but improving technical support and pricing would be welcome. We often need quicker responses and better solutions than we can manage manually. These improvements would make the product even better."
"There should be more custom documentation, specifically around Java APIs. There should also be more training. In terms of features, we are currently using only 50% of its features. We don't use all features that are available, but there is always room for improvement in all of the tools."
"The solution should offer more free technical sessions to customers so that they can gain more experience or learn more about how to use it."
"It should support other schedulers that aren't IBM products."
"Slow down on the releases a bit. I fully understand that IWA functionality is increasing at an amazing rate, but trying to keep up with the upgrades is rough."
"The solution's installation could be improved because the customers have to do it all the time."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I only know that AWA is cheaper than Control-M, but I'm not aware of the numbers."
"Its price is way up there with BMC. It is a little bit on the expensive side."
"Workload Automation's pricing is excellent, especially in comparison to similar solutions."
"They have changed the pricing on their licensing, and it's cheaper than before."
"Do your own proof of concept. Make sure you know what you want. Be clear about what you want the product to do for you. Go out and meet with the vendor, then test it."
"We have received a lot of time and cost efficiencies from using the product."
"Every time there is a task which must be repeated, the solution can reduce costs."
"There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
"The solution is a little bit expensive."
"The solution's pricing is affordable."
"We transitioned from a server license to per job license, and that saved us a lot money."
"To my knowledge, IWA is the only WLA product that will provide "parallel tracking" capability to assist in upgrading from one platform to IWA."
"Pricing depends on the number of agents that you install."
"It is about one-third of the cost of a controller."
"The contract is with the customer with whom we are working, so IBM is not directly involved in this."
