Simplify compliance and management of multiple backups with centralized cloud solutions
AWS Backup could benefit from including more services. Currently, it only includes around ten services, while AWS offers over three hundred plus services. Also, it would be helpful if AWS Backup could integrate logs more thoroughly. This would allow not only new users but also experienced users to more easily check logs directly from AWS Backup.

A reliable platform with good encryption process for data security
Setting up iDrive is straightforward and easy. The local software can be installed after setting up everything in the cloud. The deployment process can take a few hours or more depending on the complexity of the structure you want to create. Integrating iDrive into our ecosystem was not complex. I handled the deployment process by myself and did not need much workforce for deployment. Our IT technicians handle all implementations and changes. The maintenance process for iDrive is smooth, but often faces challenges in terms of sensitivity to internet bandwidth variations. If there's a large variation, it might pause the backup process. But in such cases, the notifications keep us updated as it is very swift and reliable.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It provides an easy data migration process from on-premise to cloud."
"It works well as a backup and as a service."
"The advantage that AWS Backup has over competitors is that it's very simple."
"Reporting is one of the key elements that are valuable for C-suite executives. In terms of monitoring, the solution provides comprehensive details into ongoing processes, flagging issues and warnings as necessary."
"The features of AWS Backup are very service-oriented and user-friendly."
"The solution's most valuable features are its backup capability and tight integration with other AWS services."
"It's very easy to configure. Since it's a managed service, it's very straightforward to set up and use. And my customers get on with it very fast."
"We can directly back up EC2 instances in AWS without using any third-party applications."
"iDrive will keep up to 30 versions of a file."
"The encryption process is the most useful part of using iDrive for data security. I also use the background backup feature which helps me to clone and conduct computer backup. These features are very reliable, especially when restoring images from damaged servers. But I don't use the real-time backup feature; I always use the scheduled backup."

Cons

"When it comes to encrypting data, it is not so convenient."
"There are multiple enhancements needed in terms of compatibility with all database services, as AWS Backup is currently limited to specific ones."
"It requires a lot of time to connect the snapshot, identify the files, and restore a single file manually."
"There are some limitations to partial backup in AWS Backup."
"One improvement I would like to see in AWS Backup is the implementation of incremental backups."
"The initial setup of the solution is complex."
"This backup tool does the full backup of the entire snapshot server. I would like to have the option to not do the full server backup."
"The AWS Backup backend reporting is a major area that needs improvement. We would be very excited if we can see some reporting, such as trends. We do understand that there are reports available for S3 Bucket, in which the AWS backend stores the data. However, if we can receive holistic reporting, then it would be very helpful for us."
"The disadvantage of using real-time backup in iDrive is that it significantly impacts server performance, causing considerable speed issues. The archiving process needs improvement along with the management of bandwidth and CPU. There should also be more options for creating conditions to manage the workload of the environment, making the system easier to balance."
"I’ve had issues like the scheduler mysteriously erasing my settings. I have to babysit it."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Its price is much cheaper than some vendors but more expensive than others."
"AWS Backup is free of cost, but we need to pay for the backup storage being used."
"The solution's price is reasonable."
"It's a myth that Cloud is cheap. Cloud is cheap initially, but the cost over time can be equal to your own infrastructure if you consume a lot."
"The clients pay for the whole AWS bundle. It is an affordable solution."
"There is a lot of flexibility with the services and pricing. The price is reasonable when compared to other products. This is very good for us."
"There are no licensing costs for AWS Backup. You pay only for the amount of backup storage you use and then the data transferred between regions. Overall AWS Backup is priced reasonably."
"The product is inexpensive."
"According to our evaluation done five to seven years ago, iDrive is cheap and it covers a lot of our needs."
