Streamlined with good backup processes and secure automation capabilities
AWS Backup is secure and comes with a vault that ensures data is never deleted, offering great security. The pay-as-you-go model is beneficial for scalability, as cost scales with the amount of data backed up. Additionally, it offers automation capabilities, allowing backups to be configured based on custom plans and frequency. It also has built-in monitoring to notify of failures, achieving operational excellence and ease of use.

Backup has protected our office data and now restores individual emails while admins configure settings
Although Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 is a Backup as a Service, it should give slight leverage to the admins to do more of their own configurations. When it comes to Software as a Service, we do need to agree on certain things, as we do not have much control over the software. If Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 can improve, it would be better. It could be slightly better, but it is acceptable. As long as support is provided in a timely manner, it is good. I cannot tell it is fully bad or fully good. If I were to give a rating of one to five, I might give 3.5 to four. Rather than giving a help database, which is an ocean of information to search through ourselves, we should be able to open a ticket and have them guide us on how to do it. As an end-user, different levels of admins exist—a fresh admin and a more experienced admin. They need to encourage us to open a ticket quickly, and from there they should guide us straightforwardly with the steps to follow to achieve the desired outcome.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It works well as a backup and as a service."
"AWS Backup's most valuable feature is that you can configure it remotely to create backups."
"It also saves costs and is quick."
"It provides an easy data migration process from on-premise to cloud."
"The replication in the recovery region is the most valuable feature."
"AWS Backup is most beneficial because we can manage the service, centralize, and automate the data without missing any essential information."
"The most valuable features we have found are the flexibility in the services offered."
"The solution has an effective overwrite feature."
"It has got all the features. You can restore a mailbox based on an email or a calendar or based on all the emails. A user can also get access to restore the mailbox."
"Veeam Backup gives you the option to backup your data from the cloud to on-premises."
"It's user-friendly, especially for taking incremental backups."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"The most valuable feature is the integration with our Teams environment."
"The solution is stable."
"The product offers good stability."
"We are able to store it on various cloud providers such as Amazon S3, Rocket, Azure, and IBM Cloud. It can also do on-premise integration, and we are able to use storage from on-premise. We are also able to recover data. It is a really good and intuitive solution. Veeam has developed a fantastic product. I've never seen anything that I don't like about Veeam. It looks like a very complete solution. It is really mature, simple to use, and quite interrogative. It also has APIs for writing scripts."

Cons

"AWS Backup could benefit from including more services. Currently, it only includes around ten services, while AWS offers over three hundred plus services."
"It requires a lot of time to connect the snapshot, identify the files, and restore a single file manually."
"The AWS Backup backend reporting is a major area that needs improvement. We would be very excited if we can see some reporting, such as trends. We do understand that there are reports available for S3 Bucket, in which the AWS backend stores the data. However, if we can receive holistic reporting, then it would be very helpful for us."
"The notifications on the backup and on the mobile app could be more useful. If they could arrange notes or notifications properly and offer services for managing it in our region, it would be helpful for us."
"AWS Backup could improve because you cannot use Glacier or anything but EFS."
"There are multiple enhancements needed in terms of compatibility with all database services, as AWS Backup is currently limited to specific ones."
"For additional functionalities, it should be more intelligent, like more AI-capabilities."
"It could be less expensive."
"Currently, I'm working for Huawei and they dropped the support for Huawei, so that's an issue for us."
"It would be a great improvement to be able to recover cover a VM straight to on-prem."
"They could include WAN acceleration to compress the traffic to make things faster."
"One major drawback is that Veeam doesn't support migrating data once it's stored in object storage like S3."
"The installation could always be a little bit easier. You do need to be a bit technical."
"We would like to have a single management console for all of our backups."
"They should include some more options to send alerts in existing monitoring software."
"They don't have native integration with deduplication of storage."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Our customers pay a monthly AWS fee that includes the AWS Backup service."
"Its price is much cheaper than some vendors but more expensive than others."
"The clients pay for the whole AWS bundle. It is an affordable solution."
"We don't use a lot of space, only approximately 900 GB, so the price is reasonable. For standing, it's okay. We normally do a payment to SSML, and they are the ones who pay over there. It is around $100 monthly."
"AWS is more expensive than some competitors like Azure."
"It's a myth that Cloud is cheap. Cloud is cheap initially, but the cost over time can be equal to your own infrastructure if you consume a lot."
"The pricing is decent."
"AWS Backup is free of cost, but we need to pay for the backup storage being used."
"We have 2000 users and pay about $10,000. It may be a little bit more per year. We have an education institute and may have fewer expenses."
"It is strictly subscribed on a per-user basis."
"We looked at a few cloud options. When we did the comparison, we found it to be a cost-effective solution, and it included everything."
"It is not the cheapest solution in the market."
"The solution is very, very, very, cheap."
"We decided on Altaro because, from the point of view of the total cost, Altaro looks cheaper than Veeam. Veeam has a lot of costs that are not clear when you start it, which makes it less flexible than Altaro, but only after half a year, you can be really sure that you made a good decision."
"The cost of Veeam Backup is $28 per user for one year."
"The pricing is expensive."
