Offer high performance capabilities and enables efficient data transmission and processing
Before Nexus, I used to have Catalyst 6500 switches. Those 6500 series chassis gave us a lot of problems. Too many problems, actually. And we had a Cisco ASA firewall blade within those chassis. And they were running outdated software. So, in fact, it was the firewall blade that caused us too many problems instead of the chassis. The chassis itself was working well and performing fine, but the firewall card was not suitable for our needs. That was one aspect. Additionally, those chassis had been in operation for more than five years. As we are a local government, we have a policy to renew hardware every five years. That's because we need to maintain all the hardware and software in the latest versions and keep up with the technology lifecycle of the technology we use.

We use the solution for our browser router.  We haven't faced any issues with the tool's integration.  Juniper MX Series Universal Routing Platforms should incorporate gen AI features. I have been working with the product for five years. I rate Juniper MX Series Universal Routing Platforms'…

"The most valuable feature of this solution is the power."
"The implementation was straightforward and the product is stable."
"Current flexibility and the opportunities for future planning and scaling make this product line an ultimate opportunity."
"The most valuable feature is that it is high-density, ten-gig."
"Cisco Nexus has good overall reliability and configuration options. It is fairly straightforward to access the switching platforms."
"The scalability of the solution is well beyond anything I would ever need."
"This product has improved the way our organization functions through the ability to do things in a maintenance window while allowing other teams to continue to work."
"The most valuable Juniper MX Series Universal Routing Platform is its ability to do routing in any way that I need. It's more than capable of handling the load I'm currently sending."
"The product is highly scalable."
"This solution is easy to manage and the resiliency of the hardware is excellent."
"I recommend Juniper because it is a code router that is easy to configure and manage."
"It's a stable product."
"We haven't faced any issues with the tool's integration."
"The most valuable feature of Juniper MX Series Universal Routing Platforms is its robustness."

Cons

"The initial setup was pretty complex, mostly because of our environment, having to do multi-context. That's where you have a lot of different logical routes that are in one physical device, and it can get kind of complex trying to think about how to set all that up. You really have to whiteboard it out a lot."
"The operating system needs to be improved. There should be stability in the operating system, and it should not have as many vulnerabilities."
"There may be many bugs which remain unresolved."
"I would like to see the integration of the products into something where it's seamless where an engineer never touches the switch again, never does CLI and you move to an application based network organization."
"The licensing is very complicated. They should work to simplify it."
"They should make it easier to update the code on it."
"In the Nexus 3500, you can't do per-port Jumbo frames, so you have to enable it as a global configuration."
"There's a couple of really bad incidents lately. Probably luck of the draw."
"Juniper MX Series Universal Routing Platforms should incorporate gen AI features."
"Although the support for this solution is good, there is still room for improvement."
"Juniper MX Series Universal Routing Platforms could improve by having a graphical interface. A lot of the younger generation tend to be used to graphical interfaces, command line tends to scare them."
"Juniper MX Series Universal Routing Platforms should improve by being more agile with new technology that sits on top of the router."
"I want support to improve in terms of quality."
"The product licensing process needs improvement."
"It needs to be more multifunctional for enterprises."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's around $160K a year for our license."
"Costs more than most, but the reliability pays for the difference."
"The subscription model and price could be better."
"The price of this solution is good when compared to others in the market."
"The problem with Cisco, from what I see, is that their costs are much higher."
"The license for Cisco Nexus is one year to three years, in this case for the SMARTnet. It is a price per unit, in terms of this specific appliance."
"The licensing fees for this solution are approximately $800,000 USD annually."
"Our licensing fees are paid annually."
"The price of Juniper MX Series Universal Routing Platforms is reasonable. We are on a perpetual license. I do not have any maintenance service as part of the license."
"The tool's pricing is in the middle."
