Facilitates data quality monitoring and AI governance with a complete suite of tools
When I initially started with Collibra, it was just a data cataloging platform with governance workflows around it. Now they have acquired a lot of other tools, or they have merged or acquired different platforms. It is a complete suite of tools for managing data. We can monitor data quality and take actions on the profiling results obtained by running data quality checks. Collibra helps catalog data assets, monitor the health of data assets, and take necessary actions. If we find data quality issues, it also provides a medium to capture those issues and how to remediate them. The workflows allow the creation of custom workflows based on needs. The newest addition in their tool suite is AI governance, which allows cataloging all AI models currently deployed or even in the pre-production stage. It helps document model meanings and the risks involved, thus managing all risks related to AI deployments.

Used for wrangling or transforming data from sources like S3 and Databricks
I use Matillion ETL for wrangling or transforming data from sources like S3 and Databricks The most valuable feature of Matillion ETL is the UI experience in which you can drag and drop most of the transformation. Sometimes, we have issues with the solution's stability and need to restart it for…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Using lineage and Collibra Catalog has helped me overall improve the trust and transparency regarding data origin and transformation."
"The data lineage capability is valuable as it shows how different sources are connected and how data flows, which is crucial for projects like migrations. Moreover, data lineage visualization in Collibra Catalog aids our data governance initiatives."
"Collibra Catalog's best feature is the data quality checker."
"Collibra Catalog has significantly enhanced data governance and compliance for our team, primarily through its valuable feature of endpoint lineage enabling visual representation of the data."
"We have had no complaints about the stability."
"Collibra Catalog allows us to automate metadata management, significantly saving time, effort, and finances."
"Except for data quality, everything is perfect."
"Gartner identifies Collibra Catalog as the leader, which aligns with our observations."
"It's been able to do everything we require."
"The loading of data is the most valuable feature of Matillion ETL."
"Matillion's technical support is excellent."
"The tool's middle-dimensional structure significantly simplifies obtaining the right data at the appropriate level. This feature makes deploying our applications easier since we utilize a single source without publishing data from various sources."
"The new version with the Productivity Cloud is very simple. It's easy to use, navigate, and understand."
"The technical support treats us well. They already have a support portal, and they are responsive, which helps."
"The simplicity of this tool is nice. It has a good graphical user interface. You can also do a lot of generic stuff in the tool. If there is good connectivity to a cloud database, such as Snowflake, and you can have a lot of Snowflake functionality in the tool."
"The most valuable feature of Matillion ETL is the UI experience in which you can drag and drop most of the transformation."

Cons

"More automation and artificial intelligence involvement are necessary. Reducing required employee involvement and enhancing ease of use are vital."
"If the price is a bit reduced, that would be better."
"One of the very key drawbacks is that automation for access provisioning is not available. If I discover a data set or data product in the marketplace and want to access the data, this feature doesn't exist at all."
"The tool's overall functionalities need to improve since, nowadays, many tools, from a business perspective, are easy to use."
"In Collibra Catalog, the main area that has room for improvement is the search functionality. It should be more natural language oriented instead of searching for exact names."
"A key area for improvement in Collibra Catalog lies in its integration capabilities, particularly with a broader range of sources."
"I'd like to see more integration with other reporting sources."
"Collibra Catalog could improve its automation to increase the efficiency of the software."
"There are problems with GCP connectivity. Specifically, connections to BigQuery for extracting information are complex, and the optimization of the extraction process requires improvements."
"Performance can be improved for efficiency, and it can be made faster."
"The tool's lineage is very weak."
"Unlike Snowflake which automatically takes care of upgrading to the latest version and includes additional features, with Matillion ETL we need to do this ourselves."
"It needs integration with more data sources."
"The product's scalability needs improvement. Perhaps adding more connectors would be beneficial."
"To complete the pipeline, they might want to include some connectors which would put the data into different platforms. This would be helpful."
"The current version is a bit more limited because it's on a virtual machine, and everything executes on that one virtual machine."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Collibra Catalog is fairly priced - I would rate their pricing seven out of ten."
"Collibra offers a per-user licensing model."
"I think they can bring a few more features and align better with other quality products."
"The product is highly priced compared to other vendors."
"The AWS pricing and licensing are a cost-effective solution for data integration needs."
"A rough estimation of the cost is around 20,000 dollars a month, however, this is dependent on the machine used and how Matillion ETL is used."
"The solution is very cheap. You're paying $2.50 an hour and if you set your service up, which you can do, you're not getting charged. Currently, our ETL process is just an overnight process that runs for about an hour. I can start and stop my server just for an hour if I want to and spent $2.50 a day for an ETL solution. There are no additional costs."
"I think it is cost conscious. It used to be very cheap and they have more recently bumped up the pricing, so it is competitive now."
"It was very easy to purchase through the AWS Marketplace, but it was also expensive."
"The product must improve its pricing."
"The cost of the solution is high and could be reduced."
"It is not necessarily a cheap solution. However, it's reasonable priced, especially with the smaller machines that we run it on."
