It's constantly enhanced and has impressive reliability and data compression
The maintenance is a bit expensive. The service and support are there for three years, but after the third year, it is pretty pricey for renewal. I hope Dell addresses that. Everything is pricey these days anyway. It is not like the old days of Compellent. We used to be able to see the metrics for our customers. On Compellent, we could look up that customer and see all the metrics. That is not allowed for us now. We cannot do that anymore. I have to be explicitly allowed by the customer to do that, and some companies' security does not allow that.

Ability to interact with teachers in real-time and manage lessons after class
The deployment process is very fast. We have prepared the product to be easily installed, and we have had successful cases where it could be implemented in less than a few weeks. Moreover, Around three or four people in a call center are involved in maintaining the solution. We have a project manager, a service manager, and at least two or three system analysts who handle the maintenance. If there are any issues, we can open a support ticket for them to address.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The administration tools take advantage of machine learning and make recommendations to the admins, and that makes the administration easier."
"When compared to Pure Storage, Dell PowerStore's cost was quite attractive."
"The most impactful feature is the data reduction."
"I have found the most valuable part of Dell PowerStore is the price."
"Updates come with enhancements. Each time we do an update, there is an enhancement, like new features, which is extraordinary. Other companies would try to charge for all that, but the enhancements just come with it."
"The supportability of SCME drives for faster data access from the PowerStore and is the most valuable feature."
"The use of NVMe is notable, and the speed and performance it provides are commendable."
"My company found the tool to be really easy to use, expand, and manage."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to interact with teachers in real-time and manage lessons after class."
"The tool's most valuable features for us are its combination of formatting, ETL, analytics, and storage capabilities."

Cons

"We used to be able to see the metrics for our customers. On Compellent, we could look up that customer and see all the metrics. That is not allowed for us now. We cannot do that anymore. I have to be explicitly allowed by the customer to do that, and some companies' security does not allow that."
"Could use some additional automation."
"The support team should have more people with experience in the solution's installation process, as it is one of the areas where I see certain shortcomings."
"There is an issue with Dell PowerStore related to future expansions which are software-related."
"Dell PowerStore is an unfinished product compared to the HPE systems because it is relatively new."
"The only area I can highlight for improvement is that the 4:1 data reduction target has not been reached. This may be due to an issue with Dell EMC's initial analysis of data compression. As a result, we have had to add new physical disks to reach our goal of total available disk space."
"You cannot delegate permissions."
"The cost of technical support is high."
"The solution is expensive. For future releases, it would be beneficial if Kovair Data Lake could enhance its ETL and data capabilities."
"Maybe the chat conversation feature could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I rate the price of Dell PowerStore a seven out of ten."
"Dealing with the licensing part of the product is very simple, especially considering the fact that we don't have many licenses associated with the tool."
"Dell PowerStore is affordable and the license is just a face license which is great."
"The price of Dell EMC PowerStore could be better, it is a bit expensive."
"We are happy with the pricing that we get from Dell."
"The solution is expensive."
"The rate is always too high. Nobody likes paying for it. I have not seen a client yet who says that the price should be higher. Initially, people look at it, but when they see what the benefits are, it is a no-brainer. We can give them good pricing at the outset."
"Pricing depends on the model and negotiation. Sometimes we manage to get good discounts, sometimes not."
"I rate the tool's pricing a five out of ten."
