We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

ROI

Sentiment score
6.9
Denodo significantly reduced processing times and costs, boosting ROI, strategic accuracy, KPI improvements, and minimizing ETL dependency.
Sentiment score
5.8
SAS Data Management boosts data accuracy, reduces storage costs, and is vital in banking, finance, and pharmaceutical sectors.
If you don't need to write a whole ETL to make the data virtualization, you need way fewer people to write a query instead of writing an ETL pipeline.

Customer Service

Sentiment score
7.3
Denodo support is praised for responsiveness and expertise, though some users cite initial challenges with technical support and training.
Sentiment score
7.1
Customer service satisfaction with SAS Data Management is high, despite regional differences and limited online resources, thanks to responsive support.
Denodo's customer support team is very competent and responsive.
The documentation is very thorough.
If we raise a ticket, it can be resolved or addressed within a reasonable time frame, so support is good.
The support for SAS in Brazil is not the best one, but the support in Sweden is really good, as they visit the company and work to solve the issues.

Scalability Issues

Sentiment score
7.3
Denodo is scalable and integrates well but may face cost, complexity, and integration challenges in heavy data environments.
Sentiment score
6.8
SAS Data Management is highly scalable, supporting enterprise tasks with robust servers, comparable to Oracle and Microsoft solutions.
For huge data requests, it cannot scale automatically; admin action is required.
Its complexity in configuring and the requirement to install different connectors for different sources affects its scalability.
While the solution scales well on a single machine, I have doubts about its scalability when deployed as part of a Java component cluster.

Stability Issues

Sentiment score
7.0
Denodo offers stable performance with minor issues, requiring expertise for optimization, but excels in significant operations with reliable support.
Sentiment score
7.2
SAS Data Management is highly stable, especially on Linux, but might need client-side configurations for optimal performance.
If JVM does not function properly, it may cause Denodo to fail to connect to different sources.
I would rate it nine out of ten because it is very reliable, always performing as expected.

Room For Improvement

Denodo needs better data catalog features, modern UI, integration, performance, security, support, and more cost-effective deployment.
SAS Data Management needs improved usability, licensing, integration, cloud features, scalability, stability, and enhanced automated reporting and documentation.
The system has dependencies on other environments, like JVM, which can affect its performance.
Denodo needs better communication on how the product can be deployed for specific solutions.
Ensuring data caching is up to date is critical.
There is significant room for improvement, especially with regard to using a hybrid approach that involves both CAS and persistent storage.

Setup Cost

Denodo's pricing is costly, targeting medium to large enterprises, with variations based on CPU and editions despite incentives.
SAS Data Management is powerful but costly, with affordability challenges for businesses, though educational trials and market-based pricing options exist.
It would be nice to have a cheaper version of Denodo for small businesses.
Denodo's pricing is not affordable for small companies and is more suitable for medium to large enterprises.
Denodo is considered pricey, limiting its use to large enterprises or government organizations that can afford its comprehensive setup.
From my experience, SAS Data Management is an expensive tool.

Valuable Features

Denodo excels in data virtualization, integration, and ease of use, enhancing data access and governance for organizations.
SAS Data Management provides user-friendly, comprehensive data handling with strong integration, quality, governance, and flexible connectivity features.
Denodo's ability to connect to multiple data sources and perform extract-transform-load (ETL) operations on the fly is noteworthy.
Denodo simplifies your work and helps you ship code or ship solutions in a faster way.
Denodo supports SQL base, so if you want to join two tables or two views, you can use SQL, which is an advantage as most developers or business people know SQL.
The best features I appreciate about SAS Data Management tool are that it's easy to create the flows and schedule data, and the tables are not too big, making it easy to control the ETL process, including user access which is also easy to manage in SAS.
SAS Data Management stands out because of its data standardization, transformation, and verification capabilities.

Has simplified multi-database querying and accelerated solution delivery with minimal setup
Denodo offers a great query language, the VQL, which was very easy to understand for someone that only knows SQL. It was easy to work with, and it was easy to integrate various types of databases in general. The usability of the platform is very great. The federated queries were also a feature that I used a lot. The easy usability of Denodo helped my work and made things easier for productivity. We were able to ship code faster than if we needed to use another type of data visualization tool or even an ETL. When we have multiple databases, the standard or common approach is just to have an ETL that matches the data, and we need to write this whole ETL. With Denodo, we can simplify this whole work to a few queries or setups in the databases and just make a few queries. This was actually easier, and it was faster to deliver a solution for a client instead of building a whole ETL pipeline or simply backfilling one database in another. Denodo simplifies your work and helps you ship code or ship solutions in a faster way. I really like the UI that Denodo has on the web app version. It was very simple and actually very beautiful to see. For a complicated program, it was very easy to understand how it works, even for someone who is just approaching the data engineering career or side of the programming language.

Has robust data governance capabilities and efficient financial alerting features
The platform's robust data governance capabilities ensure strong compliance with regulatory standards. Our dedicated data governance team is responsible for setting policies and monitoring data access and usage. Additionally, we have a Data Protection Officer (DPO) and an independent InfoSec team that work together to enforce these policies. This multi-layered approach ensures that data governance is effectively managed and compliant with all necessary regulations. It is integrated with SQL and Power BI servers for executive management dashboard reporting. This integration supports comprehensive data analysis and reporting needs, which was a key factor in our decision. The value of using vCenter lies in its comprehensive data infrastructure management. It significantly enhances our reporting, day-to-day decision-making, and analytics capabilities. Integrating SaaS with vCenter adds value by streamlining key functions and improving overall organizational efficiency. The solution can be considered expensive, particularly due to infrastructure, maintenance, and ownership costs. The long-term savings and efficiencies gained from using vCenter can justify the investment for large organizations. However, the high costs might not be justifiable for smaller organizations with less data and fewer resources. Conducting a thorough cost-benefit analysis based on the organization's specific needs and scale is recommended. I rate it an eight.
