The single-agent format is easy to use and accurately captures issues
We are currently migrating from AppDynamics to the solution. AppDynamics is moving toward a fast model and has a few issues with vendor support. It also requires multiple agents for each function. For example, a Java-related APM requires the installation of another agent. The solution is a bit higher priced than AppDynamics but is more user friendly and only requires one agent, so our application teams prefer it.

We can automate event-based handling solutions, is stable, and is great for heavy traffic
The solution has very heavy features. Similar to when we get an app, usually, it's less than what we want. When we send all our logs over to the analyzer, it almost crashed on the first try. We must first get our logs tuned up and then set up the Fortinet FortiAnalyzer or it will crash. This is very complicated and heavy work for such a simple task, and it's a big issue for that app. The setup of the solution can be improved because it is currently complex. The cost of the solution is high and can be improved.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It used to take a lot of time to troubleshoot. Now, we can actually see the logs anytime we want. I can just find the problem. It has improved performance from a time perspective."
"Technical support has always been quick to respond."
"The proactive monitoring that we can do with Dynatrace where it is 24/7 on with all the user experience indexed and everything coming into us."
"It has an integration with ServiceNow, which is great. Dynatrace creates tickets for things and its AI finds root cause. We have integrated that with our ServiceNow to generate events and incidents, so that all of our event management will be done in the ServiceNow Developer."
"The linking is very good in Dynatrace. What happens in other monitoring tools is the linking is not proper. In those solutions, a person has to manually link many of the layers and what is happening in them, while in Dynatrace you get that from the very first visit. For example, if a person is visiting your website, from there it will traverse you to the end. If the application is a Java application, it will traverse you there, to the Method level. So that linking and traversing is better in Dynatrace."
"Some of the main benefits are being able to quickly identify when transactions start to slow or run into issues, or hiccups if you will."
"It helps DevOps find all its problems easily and analyzes performance problems."
"For cloud, AI has been pretty useful so far when it comes to IT's ability to scale."
"The system provides valuable insights through information, graphics, and reports."
"The features that our customers have found most valuable are their different type of reports including the drill down report, as well as the flexibility to connect to any number of appliances which can be connected to it centrally."
"The initial setup is pretty straightforward."
"Support is helpful."
"We use the solution for enterprise firewalls, URL filtering, and SD-WAN."
"We use this functionality every day, and obtain reports on things like how many people are using the VPN, which websites are being accessed, and whether hackers are trying to penetrate into our network."
"The initial setup is straightforward."
"The solution is quite easy to deploy."

Cons

"I did like the old dashboards, the legacy 6.3 for example; the way we were able to do the dashboarding in the client. I would like to be able to see that in the new version of Dynatrace."
"Our environment is very complicated anyway, so the initial setup was a bit of a struggle, but only because we have so many applications and JVMs that we have been working on for long time."
"Dynatrace has APIs, but they are unfriendly APIs. If they were friendly like Splunk or Sumo Logic had, we might integrate that same data on a single webpage, then start showing these internally."
"We sometimes have to run plugins on docker containers."
"There is another challenge, which is in case of the Managed solution. In our old solution we could simply export the data as session data, and that would be imported and seen. Now, if we are using the Managed solution, then giving someone access to that solution is a challenge. We can handle it, but it's different than taking screenshots and saving that information the way we used to. The copy/paste features that were there in old application - because it was a fat app - were nice, compared to browser-based app, because you cannot really use those features anymore."
"In the next release, I'd like to see more portables included regarding the screens."
"I would also like to see it baselining more metrics out-of-the-box. We have a lot of rich data, but if someone says, "Well how did that look last week?" If you're looking at a problem and you see, for example, a long SQL statement, is that the root cause, or is it always slow. it's difficult to get historical data."
"It needs .NET core support to the level of Java."
"The following could be better: operation and maintenance, high-availability architecture, and management link embedded in the transmission link."
"The solution could embed monitoring."
"The solution should include the ability to customize reports so that customers receive greater value and high level reporting."
"The solution lacks business intelligence features. It's much too basic."
"The only issue that I can see is with the cost. For example, if you buy support for one year, you are messed up next year. It's better to buy another gateway."
"The FortiAnalyzer is not good at managing multi-version environments. If all your FortiGate are at different versions in the field, that's difficult. The one thing we didn't like is the fact you have to have 100% of your environment at the same release, which is not pleasant, to have it fully functional. You can have a different release, but to have it fully functional 100% of your environment has to be the same release."
"The interface or GUI does not work properly on Microsoft Edge. The behavior or the view is different on Microsoft Edge versus on Chrome or Firefox. When some buttons do not work, I am forced to switch to Firefox."
"In terms of what could be improved, sometimes it's lagging and it also has some graphical issues with the GUI."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Purchasing through the AWS Marketplace was a pretty straightforward process. We had no hiccups."
"The limitations I see are more to do - and maybe it's because of the nature of the job I have - but they have to do with pricing. It's a little bit pricey. It's a very good tool. It's worth the price, to a certain degree. But it's hard to justify when it's that costly."
"Getting the first agents installed, getting information, and coverage in a initial set of systems can be done in hours and with a low cost entry point."
"Licensing is very interesting, as you pay only for what is being monitored. A lot of things are given away for no additional cost. If you have a great IT consolidation, it will be pretty cheap. If you have a lot of servers, it will be heavier."
"It is quite costly. Dynatrace was the most expensive, compared to the other products we looked at. But it was also a lot better. If you want value for your money, Dynatrace is the way to go."
"We asked for a three-year license, and the price was quite good."
"This is an expensive solution, but it is also worth the money."
"Licensing is a bit complicated for Dynatrace, and pricing is dependent on how much your organization invests."
"We found the price of Fortinet FortiAnalyzer to be reasonable."
"The cost of the license is high."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"It is acceptable for on-premises, but it is expensive for the cloud."
"The pricing model is subscription-based."
"I believe that these devices were procured with a five-year maintenance and support license up front. I work at a university, so the vendor provides a considerable higher ed discount."
"I believe that Fortinet is a cost-effective brand, making it a competitive option in terms of pricing."
"The product’s price is much better than its competitors."
