Solution has a useful AI engine, but the reports could be a bit better
We are typically about a version or two behind. We are on the managed solution. Our model of deployment is on-premises. I would say there are a couple of thousand users of this solution in our company. We are also planning on increasing the usage as our apps migrate to the cloud. I would advise other people looking into solutions, to do their homework beforehand and not assume that by deploying all the tools everything will automatically work, so there's still a lot of configuration involved. I would rate this solution as a whole an eight, on a scale from one to 10, with one being the worst and 10 being the best.

Collaborates performance metrics with log data to pinpoint the exact cause of issues and offers error detection
Splunk APM is a robust tool with many capabilities. There are always areas for potential improvement to enhance its functionality and user experience. For Splunk APM, there could be simplified navigation, like streamlining the user interface to make navigation more intuitive for our users, especially those new to APM, which can enhance usability. We can provide more customization options for dashboards and visualizations to help users tailor the platform to their specific needs. There could be more integration capabilities with a wider range of third-party tools and platforms would also be beneficial. By focusing on these areas, Splunk APM can enhance its value proposition, improve user satisfaction, and better meet the evolving needs of organizations monitoring their application performance.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It collects and analyses information with AI, which is useful."
"Global overview of all app layers, including web servers."
"Smartscape is a wonderful feature. I'm really loving it because there's no need for you to go deep into an analysis and go in to see where we are going wrong. You go to Smartscape, pass all the connections, and it will tell you the root cause."
"No other provider gives us log ingestion, Kubernetes/Docker monitoring, and application monitoring for NodeJS."
"The major improvement was the ability to find errors immediately and predict future failures, or when resources reach the maximum capacity."
"For stability, our customers have no complaints."
"Finds issues that previously occupied people for months."
"The Dynatrace solution has an important role in optimizing application code and SQL queries for customer solutions."
"I like the fact that Splunk APM makes it easy to connect to the application database and run queries against the data."
"Once configured correctly, the analysis reporting the Splunk APM provides is better than that of the other APM tools."
"The product's deployment phase is good and very easy because it is done with OpenTelemetry for most of the parts."
"The most valuable feature is dashboard creation."
"The features are pretty much ready out of the box."
"The most beneficial aspect of Slunk APM is the ATM, which is the map displaying the inbound and outbound relationships of the microservices, as well as the traffic between these dependencies. This feature provides us with valuable insights and helps us understand the interactions between different microservices."
"Splunk APM helps us to find errors immediately and resolve them."
"Splunk APM has helped us to standardize logging and monitoring procedures."

Cons

"Right now, there is a log analysis feature. This is maybe a little more deeper than the log analytics in comparison to other tools, like Splunk or Sumo Logic. If Dynatrace can come up with this replay feature, that would be great."
"Cloud monitoring is insufficient. We would prefer Dynatrace to make more partnerships with major cloud applications like Salesforce, C4C, etc."
"The solution is a bit pricey."
"It is always requiring us to update the Dynatrace client."
"The one thing I am really missing is the final Azure dashboard."
"It needs a dashboard for cluster events in general, and for Kubernetes specifically."
"Filters should have a “negative” option."
"Nginx monitoring service did not work out-of-the-box, so we had to tinker with it for quite some time."
"I've been using the Splunk query language, and it can be a bit time-consuming to set up the queries I need."
"There are always areas for potential improvement to enhance its functionality and user experience."
"The licensing model is expensive. We need to monitor the amount of data ingested because the cost is based on the data collected."
"Primarily, the logs in Slunk APM can be challenging to navigate and comprehend, making it difficult to understand the details within each log. Compared to other tools like LogDNA, which are more intuitive in this aspect, the logs in Slunk APM can require more effort to understand."
"The UI enhancements could be a way to improve the solution in the future."
"The dashboards are used mainly to visualize information about the infrastructure, but it isn't easy to construct or use the dashboards. While we tried to resolve the issue by calling support, it would be easier if they had an AI co-pilot to identify the problem and help you solve it."
"Splunk's functionality could be improved by adding database connectors for other platforms like AWS and Azure."
"The monitoring of workloads when using SignalFx could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Its licensing is complicated or not transparent."
"I think that the price is reasonable."
"The product is pricey, but it is feature-rich, which is why we probably haven't looked away from it."
"The price range is quite high."
"As compared to New Relic and other providers, it is more expensive, which is its biggest disadvantage. Its biggest advantage is its capability. It is more feature-rich."
"The solution is not cheap."
"Our annual costs were about the same for both AppDynamics and Dynatrace."
"It appears to be expensive compared to competitors."
"The pricing is based on several factors, including the scale of deployment."
"The price of Slunk APM is less than some of its competitors."
"Splunk APM is a very cost-efficient solution."
"Splunk APM is expensive."
"Splunk offers a 14-day free trial and after that, we have to pay but the cost is reasonable."
"The pricing is reasonable."
