Very good for collaboration on software projects
We use GitHub for code repository alongside Bitbucket GitHub is very good for collaboration on software projects. We prefer Bitbucket for commercial use, while GitHub is used for open source. You can get the differences, history of changes, and version control for various pull requests. You can…

Tells us about vulnerabilities as well as their impact and helps to focus on real issues
Looking at all the different pieces, it has got everything we need. Some of the pieces we do not even use. For example, we do not have Kubernetes Security. We are not running any K8 clusters, so it is good for us. Overall, we find the solution to be fantastic. There can be additional education components. This may not be truly fair to them because of what the product is going for, but it would be great to see additional education for compliance. It is not a criticism of the tool per se, but anything to help non-development resources understand some of the complexities of the cloud is always appreciated. Any additional educational resources are always helpful for security teams, especially those without a development background.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature is help offered by the community for open-source projects."
"GitHub is the best tool for source repositories."
"I appreciate saving from Visual Studio Code that implements changes directly on GitHub."
"The best feature is the ability to track the history of all code changes, and it's easy to use. Additionally, as it's open source, anyone can use that feature resulting in distributed development. This opens the door to collaboration with different code and developer, feature, and master branches of development."
"The learning curve is small."
"GitHub provides enough storage for uploading the source code."
"GitHub is easy, secure, and widely documented."
"The code versioning is excellent, and having a detailed log, including every change made to the code by every developer, is invaluable. It makes it so that if there is a bug or problem in the product channel, we can find exactly where it happened and how to fix it."
"We're monitoring several cloud accounts with Singularity. It is convenient to identify issues or security failures in any account. It's nice to have all the details we need to solve these issues."
"Cloud Native Security's best feature is its ability to identify hard-coded secrets during pull request reviews."
"It is advantageous in terms of time-saving and cost reduction."
"The cloud misconfiguration feature and Offensive Security Engine, as well as their alerting process, are valuable."
"We mostly use alerts. That has been pretty good. If we use the alert system from Amazon, it is much costlier to us, so we use PingSafe."
"PingSafe released a new security graph tool that helps us identify the root issue. Other tools give you a pass/fail type of profile on all misconfigurations, and those will run into the thousands. PingSafe's graphing algorithm connects various components together and tries to identify what is severe and what is not. It can correlate various vulnerabilities and datasets to test them on the back end to pinpoint the real issue."
"It is fairly simple. Anybody can use it."
"Overall, I would rate it a ten on ten for cloud security."

Cons

"GitHub's issue management could be improved a little from an organization standpoint. It would be helpful to have the ability to organize a work board or a backlog more comprehensively. For organizations migrating to GitHub from arbitrary systems, it's a little bit of a headache to move on to that system."
"The sign in process is a bit difficult."
"We face issues with synchronization while working with teams."
"The query function in GitHub is a bit stiff."
"The user interface on GitLab is better."
"The solution can improve by adding video guides, official guides, or short courses that cater to beginners who are new to the system. These resources could offer step-by-step guidance on how to use GitHub, including common procedures such as pulling and committing. Currently, many of us have to resort to searching for information on how to do these tasks via Google. An official guide provided by GitHub itself would be a valuable asset to newcomers and would save them time and effort."
"We want to incorporate management comments within GitHub, making it more like a product management tool. We haven't done that yet. Another change we're considering is migrating from GitHub to Azure DevOps, especially now that Microsoft has introduced it."
"The development team pushes the code into a repository, and the CI/CD pipeline will perform the build. We need open-source libraries to perform the builds. It would be helpful to have the ability to link to open-source libraries like npm libraries. I don't know if GitHub Actions provides this. I would like to see that in GitHub Actions if they don't."
"We've found a lot of false positives."
"In version 2, a lot of rules have been deployed for Kubernetes security and CDR, which makes a lot of issues of critical severity, whereas they are not critical or of high severity. There is a mismatch of severities."
"I request that SentinelOne investigate this false positive, as SentinelOne has a higher false positive rate than other XDR solutions."
"To enhance the notification system's efficiency, resolved issues should be promptly removed from the portal."
"In some cases, the rules are strictly enforced but do not align with real-world use cases."
"Customized queries should be made easier to improve PingSafe."
"PingSafe's current documentation could be improved to better assist customers during the cluster onboarding process."
"The integration with Oracle has room for improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product is reasonably priced."
"It is open-source. There is no license for GitHub."
"You don't have to pay for a license if you are using the free version."
"Regarding pricing, I'd rate it eight out of ten. It's decent and not too expensive, and small businesses can also afford it. With AWS taking CodeCommit out of the market, I don't see many competitors for small companies in terms of GitHub."
"It's cheaper than Bitbucket."
"If there are only 10 people using a particular repository, then GitHub is free. But if we increase the number of users, we need to pay the normal charge for GitHub."
"GitHub is a cost-effective solution."
"GitHub is an open-source application. It's free to use."
"PingSafe falls within the typical price range for cloud security platforms."
"As a partner, we receive a discount on the licenses."
"It was reasonable pricing for me."
"While I'm slightly out of touch with pricing, I know SentinelOne is much cheaper than other products."
"SentinelOne offers excellent pricing and licensing options."
"PingSafe is fairly priced."
"Singularity Cloud Workload Security's licensing and price were cheaper than the other solutions we looked at."
"PingSafe is priced reasonably for our workload."
