Manageable and comprehensive and integrates robust backup features for core banking
It's adequate for my core banking, however, I am looking for another solution for all systems. It is not compatible with other operating systems like Windows or Linux, and lacks a consolidated dashboard from Browser Spectrum. This is why I am searching for another solution. The product also lacks any centralized graphical user interface (GUI), such as Jarek Pod, and I am limited to using a console-based text user interface, which my local partner handles completely.

Enhanced data retention and recovery with robust backup features
The Oracle Agent and Oracle RAC support are valuable features; they are crucial for taking backups and cloning applications. NetBackup Appliance has many features. Backup Exec is a great product as well. NetBackup is well-developed with strong features, including deduplication technology, which allows us to retain backups for longer periods—exceeding our expectations by keeping backups for almost a month. It's effective for data recovery and capable of handling large-scale data recoveries. It is very stable and keeps applications secure. However, the AI integration is not yet tested.

Pros

"Every time customers make a change or we have made a change, then they use the product to do a cloning and refreshing. They are happy that they get good performance something changes."

"We apply the new dedupe and compression technology, using maintenance and time to give more time for the backup window and less time for the overhead related to the daily housekeeping."
"The solution is mostly stable."
"The feature that I have found the most valuable is that IBM Spectrum Protect is highly integrated with IBM ESS. In addition, it allows us to back up our virtual servers directly to take VM snapshots. It runs on Linux as well."
"It is good in terms of functionality. My clients are very satisfied with this solution."
"The solution offers very good flexibility."
"Its flexibility is valuable. It is a very flexible solution. There are always more ways than one to do something. It is a software solution, which means you can buy your own hardware and expand it whenever you want. You are not boxed in or locked into something you've bought and outgrown. You can always expand it."
"Installing this solution is very simple and takes perhaps five or ten minutes."
"The most significant benefit has been the time to restore."
"This is a good backup interconversion solution because all the masters and the targets backups are on the same system. It is easy to administrate for a single point of access for clients."
"The most valuable features of Veritas NetBackup Appliance are the ease of use and the familiar interface."
"The product enables me to recover the information of the appliances in the organization."
"The most valuable feature of Veritas NetBackup Appliance is duplication and covers many applications."
"The most valuable feature involves VMware Instant Recovery, which allows one to do restoration within seconds."

Cons

"We recently had a situation where we quickly got code, and the number of tapes exceeded the library capacity so we were waiting a while to change. We got a fix for this right away."
"The main admin console from the UI cannot do anything in the product. It just allows us to maintain, maybe, 30% to 40%. For the rest, we have to use the command line."
"IBM Spectrum Protect is not a very user-friendly tool."
"The user interface needs to be improved."
"The installation process could be simplified."
"Replication services would be nice. If these could be enhanced to be always on so multiple storage backup services could be added as a cluster pool. This would provide a better availability service."
"Our new leadership has pushed us to go more toward the cloud, so we are definitely going to leverage anything we can in that direction."
"The software is very complicated. You have to do a lot of configurations to build a server, and you would need to backup and restore."
"The scalability could be improved."
"Veritas NetBackup would benefit from better explained error codes."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance could improve the configuration, it could be more user-friendly."
"The technical support services could be better."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance could improve by having a site recovery feature."
"The tool's pricing is expensive and could be lower."
"I would like the ability to recover a single folder within the backup of a virtual machine."
"The costing part is on the higher side. The reporting could also be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution has a capacity based licensing, front and back-end license."
"We have capacity licensing. We use the front end. The capacity licensing is pretty okay on the licensing price. I used to use the old PVU-based licensing in the early environment, but now we use capacity-based licensing."
"The pricing of the solution is high in comparison to other products on the market. For example, IBM and Symantec have less costly options."
"We have found that the pricing is high in our country."
"The licensing fees are on a yearly basis, which for us it is about R400,000 (approximately $27,000 USD)."
"IBM provides an open license policy, which is more like a gentlemen's agreement."
"The pricing is a little expensive for our current employer, so they want to move to a cheaper solution."
"It is expensive."
"There is a license needed to use Veritas NetBackup Appliance and there are not any additional fees."
"Overall, Veritas is a good solution; the problem is the cost."
"We pay annually. It is a huge figure for us."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance is priced well compared to other solutions."
"The price of Veritas NetBackup Appliance is competitive. There are different models of Veritas NetBackup Appliance, such as perpetual licenses and subscriptions. Having the choice is good."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is a high price and ten is a low price, I rate the pricing a nine."
"The pricing for the solution's software maintenance and licensing is high."
"This solution is expensive."
