Manageable and comprehensive and integrates robust backup features for core banking
It's adequate for my core banking, however, I am looking for another solution for all systems. It is not compatible with other operating systems like Windows or Linux, and lacks a consolidated dashboard from Browser Spectrum. This is why I am searching for another solution. The product also lacks any centralized graphical user interface (GUI), such as Jarek Pod, and I am limited to using a console-based text user interface, which my local partner handles completely.

Enhanced data retention and recovery with robust backup features
The Oracle Agent and Oracle RAC support are valuable features; they are crucial for taking backups and cloning applications. NetBackup Appliance has many features. Backup Exec is a great product as well. NetBackup is well-developed with strong features, including deduplication technology, which allows us to retain backups for longer periods—exceeding our expectations by keeping backups for almost a month. It's effective for data recovery and capable of handling large-scale data recoveries. It is very stable and keeps applications secure. However, the AI integration is not yet tested.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"Forever incremental - allows TSM to optimize storage needs."
"It has to ability to backup DV2, Oracle, and Informix."
"Every time we go and try to get a file, we can get it. Restores are quick and the data is always there."
"The backup on real-time, especially for the virtual machine, archiving, and retrieving the reader from the backup repository and getting it online, getting it validated, then performing the data consistency check over the backup."
"The customization and the ability to backup across all platforms are the most valuable features."
"The backup is very good. In other backup systems, you need a lot of storage to gain the same backup policy."
"It allows us to have one interface."
"It's a very stable product, and we've never had any downtime with it."
"We mainly use Windows for all our operating systems. Our databases are SQL databases. For backups, we set up one master server and three process servers. Our company isn't big, so this setup works well for us. We install the Veritas NetBackup Appliance agent on all the systems that need to be backed up."
"The Oracle Agent and Oracle RAC support are valuable features; they are crucial for taking backups and cloning applications."
"The most valuable feature of Veritas NetBackup Appliance is duplication and covers many applications."
"There are a lot of new features that operate to protect the data from ransomware attacks. They launched the Veritas/Appliances to protect our data. Veritas has been doing its job well."
"The NetBackup appliance features customized software that is designed for storage."
"The initial setup gets easier the more you do it."
"The solution is very stable...The solution is very scalable."
"They are a large company with good best practices, and they give good support."

Cons

"The administration interface should implement more functionalities that exist only in the command line and needs improvement in how some reports are created."
"The solution needs to work on disaster recovery integration. Basically, VMware applications to the cloud, for example. There needs to be integration with the storage, and integration with VMware."
"This solution does not have good support for virtualization and a hyper-converged environment."
"Easier configuration of some of the products, e.g., VE comes to mind."
"In a future release, it would be a benefit to have the ability to add an application as a storage target, as a storage pool. Additionally, they should add more functionality to the administration for the Operation Center."
"Perhaps if they could add replication to a second site or third site from the same console, that would be helpful. Currently, we have to connect to another console."
"Software-wise, IBM Spectrum Protect didn't handle virtual machines that well. The license cost is mainly the area for improvement in IBM Spectrum Protect."
"We need everything cloud. Strong support for cloud services. S3 connectivity, which is mandatory for us in the future along with this integration of Spectrum Copy Data Management or Spectrum Protect services together with these Spectrum Protect Plus functionalities, e.g., hardware, snapshots, and Copy Data Management. They should come together in one solution."
"The product must improve its recovery features."
"Our main challenge was deciding on the right capacity for expansion, but once we settled on two NAS servers with sixteen TB, things have been smooth."
"The scalability isn't great. Every time you want to add storage, you can't just add a little bit, you need to add a lot."
"More licensing options could be introduced to the software. It is currently based on capacity only. Compared to competitors, it is difficult to position it economically everywhere. From the usability point of view, they are making many improvements on new interfaces, the SaaS offering, etc."
"The monitoring could be a bit better."
"NetBackup Appliance's pricing is reasonable, but it could be lower."
"Improving the interface could enhance user experience."
"It's an expensive solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Its licensing is complex, and its price is not really reasonable. It is on the expensive side. IBM, in general, is slightly expensive, but with IBM Spectrum for the virtual environment, they are looking into the aspect of helping customers with the cost and providing a cost-effective solution."
"We are paying for support and maintenance on a monthly basis."
"There may be an advantage to going with IBM in terms of pricing. They have a pay-as-you-grow policy, so there is no need to take one license for the entire datacenter. You can start with small licenses and then grow, and pay, as you use more."
"We have capacity licensing. We use the front end. The capacity licensing is pretty okay on the licensing price. I used to use the old PVU-based licensing in the early environment, but now we use capacity-based licensing."
"We pay for a terabyte license to support our backend usage."
"It is very scalable, but the downside is that it costs money."
"That's a hard estimate. It depends on the licensing, the hardware, and other stuff, but it is fairly expensive. It is generally more expensive than other solutions."
"IBM Spectrum Protect, cost-wise, has way higher pricing than Veeam. By switching over to Veeam, my company saved over $600,000 in USD. The IBM Spectrum Protect pricing is a two on a scale of one to ten. My company paid additional fees for maintenance, apart from the standard licensing fees."
"We pay annually. It is a huge figure for us."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is a high price and ten is a low price, I rate the pricing a nine."
"I rate the solution's pricing a nine out of ten."
"Appliances do not come cheaply."
"It costs more to license support for this solution, compared to others."
"The pricing for the solution's software maintenance and licensing is high."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance is priced well compared to other solutions."
"The product's price is high."
