Collaboration has improved through simplified document access and controlled sharing
SharePoint is definitely used to keep a record of our files and data. The capability is quite good because it is time-saving. I have used it only four or five times, but it has been very helpful to keep all my information in a consolidated manner. The search feature is one of the most beneficial factors that we use to filter out the latest data or the latest file as per our convenience and use case. When you have a large repository, this feature is particularly valuable. Role-based access control has been helpful while developing the knowledge platform. The roles were defined clearly, which made it easy for the four or five of us to work simultaneously and collaborate on our project in a similar manner.

"Various business groups were able to collaborate effectively using this tool."
"Jive came out on top for feature, price, and ability to meet regulatory needs."
"We are able to handle more than one hundred POs at any given time with their shipping docs and info, with only one person in charge."

"We recently rebranded our organization and used this tool as our primary channel."
"The platform works well to collaborate with creating documents or media for a specific goal."
"Jive-n offers the best curated experience of the social-based content for enterprises."
"Combined reports and data with timeline tracking, better than looking into three systems to find the full picture."
"MS Office 365 in combination with SharePoint, as a total collaboration tool, brings collaboration to another level."
"It's providing a social collaboration experience to a culture of heavy email users."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to easily build intranet sites for communicating within teams, storing documentation, product information, pricing policies, updates on product infrastructure, and other related news."
"Information is much more readily available."
"Being able to drop all the cloud service subscriptions saves a lot: the amount depends on how many of those services can be replaced."
"The most valuable features to our organization are the ability to store and share documents across the entire corporation, and the ability to use workflows."
"Easy management of content and portal and the document repository features are a distinguishing point compared to a file server."

Cons

"The mobile app could be better."
"We had major performance issues when our user base went up."
"The search engine could be improved and also provide some kind of indexing."
"Create a better way of adding users in bulk by email address."
"Standard Silver technical support is similar to standard support by all vendors, i.e., not quick enough."
"Jive-n can improve their integration, plugins and democratize their configuration abilities."
"Stream activity could be better organized."
"A visual navigator would be very useful as many colleagues have an issue to find their way and connect the dots."
"Advise users to update the content."
"Setting up permissions can be overwhelming. If this can be improved it would be great."
"More hints and make it more user-customizable."
"The limitations and boundaries must be extended."
"I have noticed in organizations I joined that they lock down SharePoint so much, there is very limited functionality."
"We do sell Hyland OnBase, which is probably a competitor to SharePoint and does a lot more. In our own organization, we haven't had a need for it, but certainly, for our customers, we are finding that to be a better fit. In terms of the technical reasons for that, I'm not involved much on that side, so I can't give specifics, but there is certainly room for them to improve or add on certain features that clearly are not available in SharePoint, but they are available in Hyland OnBase."
"Unless you have worked with a SharePoint business analyst, designer or power user, managing individual sites does require training to understand the components of the site settings and content."
"Allow more functionalities for the on-premise version. Do not force the move of content to a non-private cloud."

Jive vs Sharepoint vs Drupal Commons
At Mediacurrent we often get requests to compare Drupal to other platforms used for intranet sites and social business platforms (like https://dev.twitter.com/ for example). This is often referred to as “Social Business Software”, which has grown in popularity in recent years. I decided to do a…
