Efficient, user-friendly, and affordable
In the past, NSS Labs was utilized to test files and verify the numbers and datasheets. It would be beneficial to have an organization or testing lab that can verify the numbers in our datasheets since changes are frequently made, which can be inconvenient for review. For instance, when comparing different competitors such as Forcepoint, Palo Alto, and Check Point, the throughput or numbers in the datasheet may be lower than the actual numbers. Conversely, Fortinet typically reports very high numbers, but they cannot be replicated in the real world. Therefore, it would be advantageous for them to partner with a neutral testing organization such as NSS Labs to validate these numbers, thus providing more credibility and comfort to everyone regarding the accuracy of the datasheets. For the migration, everyone has a firewall in use and I am selling Fortinet. Typically, I am replacing another firewall. Previously, there was a tool available to convert configurations from one firewall, such as Palo Alto, to Fortinet, but this tool is no longer free. If it could be made free again, it would be very beneficial. This tool shows a lot of promise and is very good. Making it free would help many companies deliver their products in a more efficient and integrated way. It would also be more valuable to include the tool with the firewall package or license instead of having to pay extra for it. Paying extra puts more pressure on small companies to deliver the firewall and complete the configuration, especially if they have hundreds or thousands of policies. It's very painful to move through these policies line by line. The stability has room for improvement. When it comes to Secure SD-WAN, everything is fine. They are going the right way. SD-WAN is very promising. They can provide the SD-WAN solution separately, but they will not take this approach because even the smallest firewall can support the features, so there is no need to have a separate service or appliance. They are following the right steps, and there is nothing to be improved. Feature-wise, I'm really satisfied with the new release, and the features they have added. For now, it's fine.

Highly scalable, user-friendly UI, and easy to maintain
We have used Juniper SRX Series Firewall in airports and multiple other industries The most valuable features of the Juniper SRX Series Firewall are the user-friendly UI, and accessing the solution is simple. The pricing strategy of the vendor could improve. I have been using Juniper SRX Series…

User-administration-friendly solution, secure solution and offers real-time threat intelligence updates
It was only hardware. It's an on-premises solution, so it is limited to the capacity of the model we are choosing. But cloud-specific solutions, like the Palo Alto SaaS solution, are very scalable on demand. So it's great if you work in the cloud. But if you work on the on-premises solution, it's limited and depends upon the model. This is good for every kind of company.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"You can create multiple Virtual Domains (VDOMs), which are treated as separate firewall instances."
"The solution is very user friendly. The user interface in particular is quite nice."
"FortiGate has a strong security topic which allows all of the Fortinet devices to communicate and share information which makes their security more powerful."
"The VPN is the most valuable feature."
"I have found Fortinet FortiGate to be scalable."
"It is a one box solution, which covers most of the edge device’s requirements."
"The security fabric is excellent."
"In terms of security, we have not experienced any security flaws or loopholes, and it has proven to be quite stable."
"Commit: You can update the whole configuration without affecting the production. The new configuration will be loaded once the command "Commit" is submitted. You can also do a Commit confirmed to automatically roll back to the previous config after X minutes."
"The user interface is good."
"It protects from distributed denial-of-service attacks with Screen Options."
"The setup is pretty straightforward."
"The technical support is quite good."
"The Juniper SRX series is easy to use."
"When compared to Palo Alto, Juniper is a better choice when it comes to the enterprise network and connectivity."
"Performance is a strong point."
"Palo Alto has a unique solution for DNS security, which is very good."
"The most valuable features are the intuitive user interface, ease of use, and reporting."
"The most valuable feature of Palo Alto Networks K2-Series is the configuration, it is very clear."
"The solution offers effective security features such as HIDS (Host-based Intrusion Detection System) in global products."
"Simple integrations with the domain controllers and other inventories"
"We've found the solution offers us good stability."
"The IPS system is the best in the field."
"The customer service and support are really good."

Cons

"Fortinet could improve the windows opener or the virtual IP solutions for opening windows. The virtual IP settings need improvement as firewalls are trending in new development directions."
"The stability of Fortinet FortiGate could improve."
"The solution lacks sufficient filtering."
"A couple of things I've seen that need improvement, especially in terms of a hard coding. The driver-level active moment really is out-of-the-box and we have to have contact the customer support and sometimes it is difficult to resolve."
"Its reporting capabilities can be improved. It should have some out-of-the-box reporting capabilities and some degree of customization. The basic reporting that it currently has is not sufficient to create more usable reports. It needs some sort of out-of-the-box reporting. They try to make customers purchase FortiAnalyzer for this kind of reporting, which is an additional cost. Other firewall vendors, such as SonicWall and Sophos, provide this sort of reporting without any additional cost."
"The support structure needs to be improved because every time we contact them, there is a delay in the response."
"The initial setup is complex."
"It claims it does DLP, but the degree and level of controls are very basic."
"We tried configuring the IDS for more than four months, but it did not work properly."
"To compare with Fortinet, Juniper needs to improve their security features."
"Juniper SRX is stable, but it could improve. FortiGate has better stability than Juniper SRX."
"It doesn't support SSL encryption."
"The Juniper product has to improve in terms of innovation."
"The solution isn't very granular or detailed."
"It would be ideal if the solution could use cloud services to help update signatures or threat prevention systems."
"J-Web, Juniper Web, is sometimes not working great when users are increasing their internet use. Additionally, they need to improve the GUI, graphical user interface, and the firewall management needs to improve. Their CLI is good, but sometimes the GUI is very slow."
"Its networking features could be better."
"Sometimes there are interactions with support or the provider that are not ideal."
"It is recommended that the Palo Alto Networks K2-Series be implemented step by step for the Panorama. Sometimes we can't overwrite the configurations because it fails."
"Higher levels of support are excellent but new users may need additional options."
"Palo Alto has many other products. It would be nice for these products to be centralized under one tool"
"The scalability of Palo Alto Networks K2-Series is good. It is good for larger environments over smaller ones."
"Palo Alto releases a lot of bug fixes for their firewalls, which means it's necessary to do frequent upgrades. They should work on decreasing their bugs so that upgrades aren't needed so often."
"The scalability for on-premises version is limited as it depends on the model."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I think the price of Fortinet FortiGate is very reasonable."
"The pricing is perfect."

"I would say that all things considered, the pricing is pretty good."
"I give the pricing a nine out of ten."
"The price of Fortinet FortiGate is better than Cisco, Check Point, and Palo Alto. In terms of pricing, it's probably a better-priced firewall solution overall."
"When you consider performance, price, and features, maybe Juniper is not so cost-effective compared to other solutions like MikroTik."
"Pricing is good. Most of the costs are in the UTM (IDS/IPS, virus scanning, etc) subscription."
"Juniper SRX Series Firewall is worth its money."
"This is a cost-effective solution because the price is very reasonable, and some of the features are available at no extra cost."
