The solution is a consistent logging platform that provides excellent query mechanisms
We can query a lot of data points and build dashboards. The vendor is good at adjusting their models. Most companies want us to forecast our yearly use and pay it upfront on day one. With Logz.io, we commit to use 14 TB in a year. However, they measure us every month and give us a monthly bill. Depending on our monthly usage, we pay for 14 TB divided by 12 months or a little extra. It's a little bit more like AWS. Other solutions do not do it. They want their money upfront. We really like the dashboards. We have 36 sub-accounts. Each sub-account is an app, and we could put restrictions on that app. Previously, there were capacity restrictions on the sub-accounts. If we have a sub-account of 1 TB and use only 100 GB, we waste 900 GB that day. We could not share it between sub-accounts. Now, they provide an overhead volume. We do a reserve, and any sub-account could use anything over the reserve. It utilizes our footprint better.

Gives a clear forecast about existing machines, and has an automation feature that helps in reducing a lot of ambiguities and managing operational efficiencies
What I'd like to improve in vRealize Log Insight is the licensing model. VMware provides vRealize Log Insight along with the VMware Cloud Foundation, but customers who would like to go for the native VMware would have to procure vRealize Log Insight separately. Today, vRealize Log Insight is offered on two different licenses, one is based on the number of VMs, and the other is based on the number of physical codes on the machine. If VMware can provide a bundle offer for customers who procure more than ten licenses, where you can have an option to run, for example, three hundred machines on vRealize Log Insight with no extra cost, this would encourage more people to adopt the solution. What I'd like to see in the next release of vRealize Log Insight is for a cloud option to be available, which would be a pay-as-you-go licensing model that would allow me to pick and choose what I'll monitor. For example, I have one thousand and three hundred critical servers, and the seven hundred servers for basic development, I don't want to monitor on vRealize Log Insight today, so I should be able to pick what I need to monitor on the solution and only pay for that specific instance. If VMware can apply these changes, it would help VMware customers to procure more or adopt more of vRealize Log Insight even in smaller projects.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The tool is simple to setup where it is just plug and play. The tool is reliable and we never had any performance issues."
"The visualizations in Kibana are the most valuable feature. It's much more convenient to have a visualization of logs. We can see status really clearly and very fast, with just a couple of clicks."
"The query mechanism for response codes and application health is valuable."
"InsightOne is the main reason why we use LogMeIn. This is mostly because of log data that we are pushing tools and logs in general."
"We use the product for log collection and monitoring."
"We use the tool to track the dev and production environment."
"The other nice thing about Logz.io is their team. When it comes to onboarding, their support is incredibly proactive. They bring the brand experience from a customer services perspective because their team is always there to help you refine filters and tweak dashboards. That is really a useful thing to have. Their engagement is really supportive."
"It is massively useful and great for testing. We can just go, find logs, and attach them easily. It has a very quick lookup. Whereas, before we would have to go, dig around, and find the server that the logs were connected to, then go to the server, download the log, and attach it. Now, we can just go straight to this solution, type in the log ID and server ID, and obtain the information that we want."
"The setup and installation are very easy."
"We use the on-premises version of this solution for log analysis and to find details about certain issues."
"The solution's simplicity, flexibility, and extensibility are valuable features as we can integrate everything in vRealize."
"The tool helps my company deal with security and log analysis, which are very important areas for us...It is a scalable solution."
"The events are notably more descriptive, aiding in security and event analysis. We've also integrated Sky Collector, providing valuable insights and solutions for troubleshooting."
"It is very scalable and can handle a large workload."
"The virtualization solution supports data center virtualization, network and security."
"It allows us to gain a comprehensive overview of our infrastructure."

Cons

"Capacity planning could be a little bit of a struggle."
"The solution needs to improve its data retention. It should be greater than seven days. The product needs to improve its documentation as well."
"The product needs improvement from a filtering perspective."
"When it comes to reducing our troubleshooting time, it depends. When there are no bugs in Logz.io, it reduces troubleshooting by 5 to 10 percent. When there are bugs, it increases our troubleshooting time by 200 percent or more."
"I would like them to improve how they manage releases. Some of our integrations integrate specifically with set versions. Logz.io occasionally releases an update that might break that integration. On one occasion, we found out a little bit too late, then we had to roll it back."
"The solution needs to expand its access control and make it accessible through API."
"The price can be cheaper and they should have better monitoring."
"I would like granularity on alerting so we can get tentative alerts and major alerts, then break it down between the two."
"Documentation is lacking, including some guide as to how to use the expressions. It is not clear how to look for a log, for example. Some examples in the documentation might be helpful. I think that VMware had good documentation, but it's no longer hosted. The documentation is not as easy to understand as it was before."
"Log Insight should be better at dealing with audits and security logs. We use another product called QRadar for that."
"Paid or free does not matter, but it is complex to find good training material for vRealize Log Insight."
"They should improve their web interface to make it more user-friendly."
"In the VMware environment, one area for improvement is the handling of VM failovers due to host failures, such as unexpected shutdowns from hardware issues. Currently, High Availability (HA) doesn't seem to recognize whether the VMs are online during failover, treating them as offline or unavailable."
"The product's price falls on the higher end of the spectrum, making it an area of concern."
"The dashboard needs to be improved because this is what I need to monitor my infrastructure."
"It's great for VMware, but it would be good if they had third-party logins."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The tool is an open source product."
"At the time it was set up, we thought Logz.io was very reasonable for what we were getting in terms of how much time and hosting costs it was saving us, because you don't have to run the servers for it anymore."
"You pay for what you need, and that is a good model. They are also quite happy to talk to you about your uses and your use case. They will even go as far as suggesting things that you don't need to do in order to save you money. At one point, I was quite surprised at how cheap it could be if we wanted it to be or how much they would help us manage our costs."
"The product's pricing is cheaper than other solutions."
"The product is a little expensive."
"I am not sure what the exact cost is. However, I believe the vRealize suite costs $2,500.00 per year."
"The pricing has been updated recently."
"I think it is a reasonably priced product."
"The license cost for any other monitoring tool is too high compared to this product."
"It is not cheap. But it is worth it."
"The product's price is reasonable, but when it comes to SQL licensing, it's a bit expensive."
"Pricing is good because it is part of the suite package. It comes in a bundle for us."
"I rate the product's price a six on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive."
