Reliable, fulfils compliance requirements, and enables to manage data backups easily
I use the solution for backup and recovery Our systems have become more stable and scalable after using NetApp AltaVault. The dashboard is useful for managing data backups. The deduplication technology helps me take offline backups efficiently. The workload on the end team has been reduced. It…

A mature backup solution, with many features, and great support
Veritas NetBackup is the first line of defense when disaster strikes. Before performing disaster recovery, we must have a good backup of our image that is also protected from ransomware. This way, we have a golden image that is resilient to ransomware attacks. We saw the benefits of Veritas NetBackup within the first three months.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Most importantly is having that island into that datacenter, and being able to address things in the same console. Thus, it is irrelevant where it's stored."
"Its initial setup is easy."
"The dashboard is useful for managing data backups."
"The solution can be used for all Office 365 applications."
"The deduplication engine. Right now, we're at about 10.5 to 11 times deduplication of our backup data."
"The most valuable feature is the portability of large archived data. You're able to put things on large on-prem, low-cost storage and then augment that with even lower cost storage in the cloud."
"The most valuable features of the solution stem from the fact that it is easy to use and integrate with whichever operating systems you use, providing you with a complete view, especially when you plan to migrate to some other operating system."
"Being able to move data seamlessly from one-premise to the cloud (Azure). It works great. The backup solution is perfect for us."
"I am comfortable with using this product."
"The backup and restore features work very well."
"The solution is stable."
"It supports multiple, heterogeneous platforms."
"Includes snapshots and multiple database agents."
"This is the best solution that I know of."
"It is pretty stable. We have one dedicated technician that is taking care of all the data protect. Typically, we have an issue once a month, if that. Or once every two months."
"Veritas NetBackup has significantly streamlined our backup and recovery processes by providing a single pane of view across various environments."

Cons

"The product must provide multi-gate connectivity."
"More than a 500 volume limit. At the moment, it only supports up to 500 volumes for SnapMirror and that's a problem. We've got 750, so a larger limit for volume replicas for SnapMirror."
"There are some bits it could do better. With tighter integration maybe with Veeam, or something like that, it'd be really good."
"It would be nice if the solution was more complete. Many customers are looking for a single solution or silo that they can manage everything from. It would be nice, instead of having different products, if everything a client needed was in one solution."
"I would like to see more web support."
"The solution needs faster indexing."
"More capacity with the basic model of the AltaVault would probably help out."
"It's a good product, but it's becoming outdated and moving to their other primary architecture."
"Technical support is somewhat slow and is in need of improvement."
"Endpoint backup capability is needed."
"Netbackup can backup MySQL via Oracle policy, to be honest, this is not completely native support and this method has a few limitations. In fact, you can buy from Veritas (or Zmanda) clients for MySQL or PostgerSQL from Zmanda to backup MySQL or PostgreSQL on Linux."
"Its integration with Nutanix and technical support can be improved."
"The pricing is a bit of a concern. If could be lower."
"What needs to be improved in Veritas NetBackup is its interface, e.g. they should make it more user friendly. Scalability for this product could still be improved, particularly its hardware appliance scalability."
"System administrators would be more efficient in NetBackup if the number of tools and command lines was reduced."
"It's a little bit complex to manage."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's quite cost-effective."
"In one use case, and we have several, to run for a particular customer, the price is about $375,000 a year."
"There is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing costs attached to the solution, which comes to around 3,000 USD."
"The pricing is not too bad, but could be a little better."
"It is a rather expensive program."
"You could compare it to a Dell EMC or ECS, and I think it's probably a little less costly than that. Within the marketplace, it's a medium cost."
"The price is a bit high."
"Pricing is good, under our budget, and flexible."
"We purchased a perpetual license and perform SMS renewals."
"The licensing fees are expensive."
"Veritas NetBackup is quite expensive and licensing costs are fixed."
"Licensing was very expensive and did not scale well if needed to move between license models."
"Our primary complaint about this product is that it is too expensive."
"I rate the product's pricing a seven out of ten."
"The software and license are very expensive."
