Reliable, fulfils compliance requirements, and enables to manage data backups easily
I use the solution for backup and recovery Our systems have become more stable and scalable after using NetApp AltaVault. The dashboard is useful for managing data backups. The deduplication technology helps me take offline backups efficiently. The workload on the end team has been reduced. It…

A mature backup solution, with many features, and great support
Veritas NetBackup is the first line of defense when disaster strikes. Before performing disaster recovery, we must have a good backup of our image that is also protected from ransomware. This way, we have a golden image that is resilient to ransomware attacks. We saw the benefits of Veritas NetBackup within the first three months.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Most importantly is having that island into that datacenter, and being able to address things in the same console. Thus, it is irrelevant where it's stored."
"The most valuable feature is the portability of large archived data. You're able to put things on large on-prem, low-cost storage and then augment that with even lower cost storage in the cloud."
"The deduplication engine. Right now, we're at about 10.5 to 11 times deduplication of our backup data."
"The most valuable features of the solution stem from the fact that it is easy to use and integrate with whichever operating systems you use, providing you with a complete view, especially when you plan to migrate to some other operating system."
"It's pretty simple. Once you set it, it goes; and then the idea of being able to get it to the cloud very quickly. It's kind of a set-it-forget-it."
"The solution is very easy to use and it offers great support."
"The dashboard is useful for managing data backups."
"It's so easy to work with."
"The most valuable feature from Veritas NetBackup is the data is very easy to backup. It is similar to VMware. They recently introduced a cloud feature that is useful."
"The backup and restore functions are very valuable aspects of the product."
"We were able to witness the benefits of using the solution within weeks of using it."
"Logs are very easy to read, parse, and use for diagnostics."
"I like NetBackup's anomaly detection and Linux storage features."
"The deduplication feature is useful. Deduplication and compression features are what I like about NetBackup."
"The VM portal and the CloudCatalyst are two of the solution's most valuable features."
"The most valuable feature is that you don't need any special connectivity - you just need to give your seller name, and then it automatically discovers all your virtual machines, which is a great benefit, especially in a bigger environment."

Cons

"I really want to partner it with the SnapCenter. We haven't implemented that yet. We're upgrading all of our stuff to the ONTAP 9, which you had to have."
"More than a 500 volume limit. At the moment, it only supports up to 500 volumes for SnapMirror and that's a problem. We've got 750, so a larger limit for volume replicas for SnapMirror."
"The solution needs faster indexing."
"It would be nice if the solution was more complete. Many customers are looking for a single solution or silo that they can manage everything from. It would be nice, instead of having different products, if everything a client needed was in one solution."
"I would like to see more web support."
"The initial setup phase of the tool was difficult."
"There are some bits it could do better. With tighter integration maybe with Veeam, or something like that, it'd be really good."
"NetApp's own competing products complicate things."
"The security and performance could improve with Veritas NetBackup. The security could be improved by protecting the data from attackers."
"The solution could have a more clear dashboard about the license and the operation status."
"The implementation process could be simplified to make it quicker."
"It's a little bit complex to manage."
"In regards to protecting the physical servers with parameters, it's a long and difficult process."
"The cost is expensive."
"It would be extremely helpful if the solution offered near-zero recovery time for SQL."
"This product would be improved with the inclusion of a Sandbox feature like Veeam Sandbox."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price is a bit high."
"It's quite cost-effective."
"It is a rather expensive program."
"In one use case, and we have several, to run for a particular customer, the price is about $375,000 a year."
"You could compare it to a Dell EMC or ECS, and I think it's probably a little less costly than that. Within the marketplace, it's a medium cost."
"The pricing is not too bad, but could be a little better."
"There is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing costs attached to the solution, which comes to around 3,000 USD."
"If you have a source size of one terabyte then they will charge for a one terabyte license, although what is actually being stored is much less."
"Veritas NetBackup is more expensive than other backup solutions like Dell Power Protect and Veeam Backup."
"We purchased a perpetual license and perform SMS renewals."
"The solution is expensive compared to other products."
"I rate the product's pricing a seven out of ten."
"When we consider the quality and value of Veritas NetBackup, it is worth the cost."
"The solution is expensive."
"It is an expensive solution."
