Offers integration with many technologies for your applications but the suite should be simplified

Provides good performance and error handling, but its initial setup is complex and could be improved
We use Oracle SOA Suite for application integration in our company. We were using the on-premises version of the product. Since Oracle SOA Suite has its own engine, you can build your integrations, deploy, and use them. We used the Oracle BPEL Process Manager for Orchestration when we had a lot of business logic. Oracle Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) and Oracle VPN come under the Oracle SOA integration platform. Compared to other solutions like SnapLogic, Oracle SOA Suite is not easy to use. Oracle SOA Suite is suitable for customers with a big complex integration process, where performance and infrastructure stability are more important. Overall, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"There are adapters which make it easier to build integrations between different technologies."
"I like the amount of technology that is involved in the Oracle SOA Suite."
"It automated the way we did system integrations. Now, information is available on different systems to the correct people."
"The integration with various products."
"Middleware jobs developing for EC, ERP, and shipping systems become easier."
"Valuable features include web service development and cloud connectivity."
"What I like best about Oracle SOA Suite is Oracle support. I also like the tool features, especially the integration feature."
"The product allows you to visualize how a company is working currently by providing rich possibilities for analysis such as the audit trails and therefore shows where improvements might be valuable."
"The product provides transparency in finances."
"The Oracle SOA Suite has many useful features, and different organizations may place different emphases on the importance of each feature. Certain features are particularly important to the organization, such as the ability to access databases and transform messages, as well as the use of proxy services to secure web services with usernames and passwords. These features can be critical for enabling effective integration and data exchange between systems and applications."
"In case there is something that doesn't work out of the box, you have the flexibility to customize it."

Cons

"The Oracle SOA Suite could be simplified."
"As PaaS solution in the cloud, it should be easy to maintain this solution."
"The initial setup is complex. Many solutions out-of-the-box did not work as expected. The documentation provided Is particularly poor."
"The system is very unstable, and any modifications to the server or in the application can make the whole system stop."
"The interface is too complicated. Making modifications still requires too much technical knowledge."
"It's also not developer-friendly."
"One area that could be better is the human task feature. It could be improved to provide more functionality and customization options because it has limited options available."
"An important area that can be improved is the product's data monitoring. When we use the solution for interfacing or end-to-end data monitoring, we want to know exactly where the data is going and exactly where it is failing, or where there is an issue."
"I would like to see divided containers more separately as a microservice."
"Various parts of SOA, BPEL, and so on, each have their own consoles which need to be accessed individually with different logins. It would be better from an admin perspective if all the consoles were accessible via a single login."
"They supply lots of documentation but finding what we need is challenging at times."
"The solution’s initial setup is complex and could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is an interesting solution, but only if you get a good price for it. Usually there are better options in the market with better prices."
"The pricing is not very high as compared to its competitors."
"Oracle SOA Suite is an expensive solution."
"This product is WebLogic based, hence it can be both resource hungry as well as expensive from a licensing point of view."
"Based on my knowledge, Oracle SOA Suite doesn't have user-based licensing. It has a system-based licensing model, so you pay for whole systems. Oracle SOA Suite is an expensive solution, so it's a four out of ten for me."
"The product is moderately priced."
"Oracle pricing is expensive. Support is based on your license. AWS is much better than Oracle in this regard."
"It is necessary to evaluate the requirement regarding the platform usage and what the main operation area of the platform will be."
