Offers extensive automation capabilities, ransomware remediation and sensitive data discovery are better than other solutions
Rubrik is an important tool for data recovery in case of a ransomware attack. It's a crucial part of their overall venture, as data recovery would be difficult without it. The guarantee of data restoration in a crisis is the main benefit. It's a combination of all features that offer value, like ransomware remediation and sensitive data discovery, that are better than other solutions. Rubrik is emerging with its AI capabilities. Rubrik's AI companion is called Ruby which is very useful.

Has a valuable feature for data encryption and good technical support services
Our primary use case for this solution is preliminary data restoration from tape media, disaster recovery, or recovering any data backed up to tapes The product's most valuable feature is encryption. The backup software is easy to use. They could include backup functionality for enterprise…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"There is a live-restore feature, their Live Mount, and the way it works we can instantly recover a VM, a past backup, to be directly attached to our VMware environment. Rubrik will act as a disk for it. It's like an instant restore. Within a few minutes our VM is up and running. And then, if we want to restore it, we can just migrate it to our actual storage."
"Rubrik has made the process to manage backup and recovery painless. This frees up more time to work on other projects."
"Intelligent agent technology."
"CloudOn allows for backed up virtual machines stored offsite in Azure to be instantiated as an Azure virtual machine and spun up."
"For data security, anomaly detection, site monitoring, and threat hunting are very important features that help customers."
"The product's protection against ransomware is a significant benefit."
"The user interface (UI) is great. It is very lightweight and intuitive."
"Rubrik is highly scalable and is easy to do."
"The ease-of-use in general is great."
"Backup Exec 2012 R2 is a very good product for the Windows file system and SQL backups. It is very user-friendly, but the next version Backup Exec 2014 that is released and the other next versions of Backup Exec product is not so friendly."
"This solution works well and has good integration with technologies such as VMware and Hyper-V."
"Synthetic backup is valuable. It gives you the possibility to do a synthesized backup, which means that it combines a full backup and incremental backup data and gives it to you in one stream. So, you don't have to restore the full backup and then later go and restore the incremental backup. You can do that in one go."
"The product's most valuable feature is scalability."
"Veritas Backup Exec is easily managed."
"The most valuable features of Veritas Backup Exec are the easy-to-use intuitive GUI. It is very easy to understand. I have never lost data and I have been able to recover all the data I need."
"The interface, dashboard, and pricing are all perfect."

Cons

"We have some challenges with the solution's reporting because historical reports have some limitations."
"The interface is still slightly clunky and has room for improvement. They do work with us whenever we mention anything that needs to be done or anything that we want. We find that bringing up the management interface is a little slow and not as intuitive as we would like, but it's been getting better as it evolves."
"Pricing is something that needs to be considered for improvement."
"They support Hyper-V and it works with our CloudOut, the cloud DR, but they seem to add features for VMware first and Hyper-V gets added second or sometimes several releases after the VMware feature comes out."
"The licensing cost is quite high. That is something that needs to be worked out, because so many times it happens that the team does not have the budget or there are other issues at that time. Cost has become an important factor in deciding whether to continue with the Rubrik solution."
"I would like for unmanaged backups to be able to be saved in a separate policy."
"It would be nice if they could work on the pricing a bit."
"I'd like to see a cloud backup service for smaller customer environments that may not support a physical or virtual appliance."
"It's not too stable for client-server architecture. Center Management is not so interactive, and then there are some issues regarding the complex licensing which needs improvement."
"More stable environment in a WAN infrastructure."
"This solution does not support image-level backup of a physical server."
"I would like to be able to create a restore task that can be scheduled so that the same restore action will be performed automatically."
"There needs to be an integration process of the endpoint devices so that we don't have to redo everything for different products."
"The licensing packet is confusing. If Veritas could do a better job of clarifying it, that would be helpful."
"If you keep it for too long and the catalog gets really big, the application tends to move slowly."
"It doesn't support the AIX platform."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Rubrik is fairly priced."
"I rate the pricing an eight on a scale of one to ten, where one is low, and ten is high."
"Due to this effective, faster backup and recovery solution, we are now able to focus on other creative tasks to meet our entire pipeline. So, we have seen ROI in terms of the improvement of productivity in our team. We save around one million dollars a year."
"Rubrik's competitive pricing and strong return on investment make it a compelling choice, especially compared to alternatives like Data Domain and Avamar. Commvault was considered but deemed too expensive."
"I don't remember the cost, but I know that for Veeam, we were spending almost $250,000 a year for 205 licenses. It was an enterprise version. When we purchased Rubrik, it was just a little bit more. It was not a terribly huge amount, and if I recall, that was for three years of support as well. So, Veeam priced itself out of the market at a certain point in time."
"As a technical person, I don't have the details, but from what I have heard, it can be expensive."
"Originally, we bought the units on perpetual licenses. Now, we have switched to Rubrik Go. I think the Rubrik Go subscription is a better model, where it is based on your onsite environment and you consume what you use."
"The setup cost is a bit high, but the solution is an all-in-one solution."
"The pricing can be improved."
"We are satisfied with the price of this solution."
"If your company can afford it, go for it."
"I rate the price of Veritas Backup Exec a four out of five."
"The price of Veritas Backup Exec could be reduced and we pay annually for the license. However, compared to other solutions, such as Veeam, it is less expensive."
"There is an evaluation license available to test this solution."
"It has a good price-value ratio. Its price-value ratio is better than Veeam."
"The price is reasonable for the features it offers."
