Has a great quality gate feature and improves the code coverage in your core base
We would like to have more visibility and more documentation, starting with the installation. It needs to be more standardized and explain all the features. We'd also like to get an idea of the level of stability we can get for our larger-sized projects. The notifications from the channel queue can be improved including email notifications. We currently rely on getting those notifications passed onto us and that should not be the case. The customization of different languages would also be helpful. If all the above could be implemented, SonarQube would be the best vulnerability security scanning tool.

Ability to automate tests across various platforms and simplifies test creation
From what I've seen with my colleagues who make the software selection, the prices for this software in Brazil are too expensive to be applied to anything but huge customers. I'm surprised because I was in charge of planning and control at the company before, when there was a manager there. Normally, the company has structural licenses that are based on the company they are selling to. I see that these companies cannot spend this money on Tricentis. I think Tosca is losing this type of market. They should have a different license policy for medium and small companies. The same happened in the past with SAP, which changed its policy and also made licenses for low.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Offers multi-programming language support"
"The code coverage feature is very good."
"It provides the security that is required from a solution for financial businesses."
"The solution offers a very good community edition."
"The most valuable features are the dashboard reports and the ease of integrating it with Jenkins."
"It is working fine. It provides a good value for money."
"The solution has a plug-in that supports both C and C++ languages."
"Using SonarQube benefits us because we are able to avoid the inclusion of malware in our applications."
"We have multiple applications, and it supports parallel execution. It has mobile automation."
"The solution is script-less, so you don't need IT knowledge to use the solution in an operational way. This is the most valuable feature. It's also only one of two or three tools that can do good automation on SAP, and in my opinion, it's the best of those."
"It's stable and reliable."
"This tool has test data management capability along with test management."
"The scalability is a valuable feature of Tricentis Tosca."
"The automation engine is very strong, and it is very competitive in the market in terms of features. They develop a lot of features."
"The tool can be handled without any knowledge in parameterisation, especially the TestCaseDesign which makes the tool mighty and stable."
"It's a simple tool, particularly in terms of system testing. You can also convert and automate using Tricentis Tosca with ease."

Cons

"The solution is a bit lacking on the security side, in terms of finding and identifying vulnerabilities."
"The handling of the contents of Docker container images could be better."
"The documentation is not clear and it needs to be updated."
"It should be user-friendly."
"The implementation of the solution is straightforward. However, we did have some initial initialization issues at the of the projects. I don't think it was SonarQube's fault. It was the way it was implemented in our organization because it's mainly integrated with many software, such as Jira, Confluence, and Butler."
"There isn't a very good enterprise report."
"A better design of the interface and add some new rules."
"The time it took for me to do the whole process was approximately two hours because I had to download, read the documentation, and do the configurations."
"Parallel execution is not yet implemented for Tosca. This means you can't execute the same test case on multiple machines remotely."
"A disadvantage of Tricentis Tosca is that you have to customize it according to your need, during the early stages of the software, particularly during upstream testing, before system and unit testing."
"In terms of areas for improvement, Tricentis has a variety of tools, even its test management tool called qTest. Tricentis Tosca does have integration with different Tricentis tools, but the integration is geared towards a larger organization perspective. For very small organizations that have minimal licenses, the integration needs to be improvised. For example, I belong to a smaller organization that has only one license, so the capability that the tool provides for integration isn't sufficient because my company needs to have separate workspaces. When Tricentis Tosca is going to be running, it is going to use that license, but my company wants another separate workspace to record, relay, and test. This is what my team has been struggling with, and the mechanism is probably there, but that needs more time and investigation, so I can't say that I'm one hundred percent certain that Tricentis Tosca, in terms of integration for a smaller organization is insufficient. Another area for improvement is that Tricentis Tosca is currently just a Windows-based tool which affects the market because nowadays, Windows isn't the only operating system, for example, there's also Apple or IOS that's moving much faster than Windows."
"The technical support services are generally good, though there are areas for improvement regarding response time and overall competence."
"The tool lags in client-based applications. We have also encountered issues with the features in integrations."
"The support we received from Tricentis Tosca was good, but it can improve."
"When using it with iOS devices, I cannot start automation directly and must use a remote machine."
"It needs better integration with JIRA."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There are many different packages with different pricing options available. We are able to try what we have and if we need extra features we can upgrade the license."
"SonarQube is an open-source product that can be used free of charge."
"The licence is standard open source licensing"
"The free version of SonarQube does everything that we need it to."
"I do not know about the pricing as I am using the community edition, which is free. But I compared the pricing with Sigma, and it is higher than SonarQube."
"We have a license with 125,000 lines of code. We did not purchase a lot of lines but it is specific to our code environment."
"Some of the plugins that were previously free are not free now."
"We are using the Community edition of SonarQube."
"We have around 200 [concurrent] licenses and the cost around $1.4 million a year."
"There is an annual cost for Tricentis."
"Licensing fees are paid on a yearly basis."
"Although the product is slightly more expensive than tools, its automation capabilities and reduced scripting needs justify the cost."
"I would like to see better costing packs. There are several features but USD $11,000 for one license is expensive."
"We hired a consultant to figure out all the tools in our company and how they fit in our company before we purchased the solution."
"Tricentis Tosca is an expensive solution and there is an annual license required. The whole licensing process is confusing and it could be made easier."
"It is an expensive tool compared to other test automation tools. It has a lot of advantages over other tools."
