It can implement automation and write automation scripts. Sometimes it gets slow.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the capability it provides to implement automation and write automation scripts. This is what the world is going after.

How has it helped my organization?

We deliver faster now.

What needs improvement?

Sometimes it gets slow, so it doesn’t always perform well. I think it's a work in progress.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Every product has it's bugs, but they are getting fixed.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support was very useful. For me, when you are choosing a product, good technical support is a must.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using HPE SIM. That's fairly buggy. It's okay for monitoring hardware, but it's a bit of a drama for other things.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward, but partially complex. It was complex in previous versions because not all the online features were available, but currently I think it should be straightforward with version 3.0.

What other advice do I have?

I think this is a very good solution if you want to have your compliance up-to-date, directly available, and you want to automate.

Using this product, we can create one trunk and push it to all of the blades and the enclosures. They could improve the speed of pushing out a profile.

What is most valuable?

I think ease of use is the most valuable feature. It saves us a huge amount of time. Normally, when we go and add a VLAN, we have to do it in a per-enclosure and per-blade basis. But when we use OneView, we can create one trunk and we can push it to all of the blades and the enclosures, and that saves us a huge amount of time.

How has it helped my organization?

Having one pane of glass is another benefit. We’ve got an entire blade system from one pane of glass. We’re able to see any alerts or any issues from there.

It has just saved us a huge amount of time, which lets us look at other things, more productive things.

What needs improvement?

There is room for improvement, especially with the speed of things. If we push a profile out, it takes several minutes; if we could improve the speed of pushing out a profile.

I think we want to get a 3PAR integrated with OneView and see what we can do with that. That's our next target.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We haven't had any issues with it. We have only had it for a few months now, but we haven't had any issues. It works fine.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I think the only problem we have is when we move an enclosure we've already got that hasn't got OneView. That takes a bit of planning. We have to empty that enclosure and then add it in. There is a bit of work to do, but anything new goes straight in. It's not a problem.

Rather than just import it into OneView – apparently it loses all the settings that we've got – we'll empty that enclosure, pop the blades into another enclosure, and then import that into OneView. Then, we move everything back after we've done that.

How are customer service and technical support?

I don't think we have used technical support for OneView.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Before OneView, we would just log on to the onboard administrator (OA) and the virtual connects (VCs) directly.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I think we only looked at OneView. We knew what we wanted to do.

The most important criteria to me when choosing a vendor and a product are customer references, how have other people have found it. Price is always an important one as well.

What other advice do I have?

I'm not sure what the other competitors are out there, to be perfectly honest. It works fine for us. As I’ve mentioned, it saves us a huge amount of time whenever we are setting up new systems. I recommend it for infrastructure monitoring.

Makes our administration smoother and easier, more flexible
Pros and Cons
  • "Administration-wise it's going to be easier. More smooth and more flexible."
  • "We also have the 3PAR and the GUI is almost the same. So the recognition is very good."

How has it helped my organization?

Administration-wise it's going to be easier. More smooth and more flexible.

    What is most valuable?

We also have the 3PAR and the GUI is almost the same. So the recognition phase is very good.

    What needs improvement?

It's new for us, so I need to get the hands-on experience first, before I comment on this.

For how long have I used the solution?

    Less than one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We don't have that much history yet. But the HPE technician who implemented it, he says it is very stable and recommended us to it. Normally he's right.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It will grow with us over time. No concerns here.

How is customer service and technical support?

They are knowledgeable and responsive. They came onsite to help with the setup.

    How was the initial setup?

We have two C7000 enclosures in two different datacenters. And the 1U is in a third datacenter. So our management and surveillance is in the third datacenter. It's straightforward to set up.

What other advice do I have?

We've almost been "married" with HPE for 15 years now. Our network is HPE, storage is HPE, computers, servers, everything is HPE. We have a DS agreement with them. They run our network, and our storage system, and our email.

We are very glad. Happy with it.

    What is most valuable?

The ease of use. It is easy to move things forward. Provides ease of a single interface to manage multiple products.

    How was the initial setup?

    The initial setup was straightforward.

What other advice do I have?

I definitely recommend OneView. If you are an HPE shop, it's the way of the future. It's the single pane of glass. Products are looking the same. You have to move forward into that world.

We can use it for more than just servers. It supports network storage as well.

    What is most valuable?

It's a product with which you can automate, manage, and monitor your devices.

How has it helped my organization?

It improves our productivity, because we can use OneView for more than just servers. We can use it for storage on some of the networks as well. So it's quite good.

    What needs improvement?

With every new version, new devices are supported in OneView, but we are still missing support for some HPE products. I hope they will be supported soon.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's quite stable. There’s been no down time.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's easy to scale, but we are not a huge company. We're not GE.

How are customer service and technical support?

We haven't been using technical support. We have not had any issues.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using Insight Manager, which was the product before OneView's conception. Therefore, we heard about OneView, and started using it instead.

    How was the initial setup?

    Initial setup was quite straightforward.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We were not really looking at other vendors, because OneView is for HPE products. You couldn't use another product. We want OneView because we want to automate things and to manage our systems easier.

What other advice do I have?

It should be easy to use and easy to manage things. You don't need a couple of different products to manage. Now you can use OneView for everything.

I would like to see them expand into other cloud platforms, non-HPE platforms.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    It's pretty stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

So far, it has been scalable for us.

How are customer service and technical support?

    Setup was straightforward.

What other advice do I have?

My most important criteria when selecting a vendor are

    • support
    • scalability

I rate this solution an eight out of 10 because it's stable, it works.

The ease of installation and use help you to come up with a turnkey solution as quickly as possible. For people who are not fully technical, the comprehensive dashboard is useful.
