The most valuable features for us are its capability and reliability. It's the best performing database solution I've used, and it's dependable, rarely going down or exhibiting instabilities.
Senior Principal Production Support Engineer at Intelsat
The most valuable features for us are its capability and reliability. It's dependable, rarely going down or exhibiting instabilities.
What is most valuable?
How has it helped my organization?
We have a lot of applications that are critical to our business running on Oracle Database. I think it's pretty feature rich, although we don't use all of the features that are available. It's a very solid platform for applications, giving us confidence in the data it maintains and our access to it.
What needs improvement?
There are so many applications that run with Oracle Database that it's difficult getting our various IT personnel to get tested and certified for it. It's like herding cats. And although the upgrades are not technically difficult, it is difficult to manage all the applications and the people who work with it.
For how long have I used the solution?
We're mostly on version 11.2.0.4. We've played just a little bit with version 12.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
We've had no issues with deployment.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It's very solid. We've had no issues with Oracle DB being unstable. Again, its reliability is one of the best features for us.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have not had to scale it to a great degree, but we've had no real issues with capacity and we have confidence that Oracle DB will scale as needed.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support is generally quite good. We've been overall very satisfied with Oracle's support.
How was the initial setup?
I was involved in the setup of it 25 years ago and it was a transition to Unix at the time. I can't say it was that straightforward, but It was also not unexpectedly complicated.
What about the implementation team?
We generally do a major Oracle version upgrade every year or two and do a major patch upgrade at least once a year if we don't do a major version upgrade. We do upgrades in-house.
What other advice do I have?
I've seen that things are evolving very fast since we first installed Oracle DB 25 years ago and since I've been a DBA for the last 30 years. We've got a lot of expertise in database administration. Honestly, that's being de-emphasized by the cloud offerings for the whole data center. Having people look at rack hardware and install the operating system is being de-emphasized. I think somebody starting out, if they are a not a big operation, they ought to look seriously at using the cloud as an alternative to having to support a lot of IT functions in-house.

Daire Başkanı/Head of Department at a government with 10,001+ employees
Helpful support, reliable, and scalable
Pros and Cons
- "The solution is scalable."
What is our primary use case?
I have a lot of projects running on the Oracle Databases. We currently are using Oracle Database 11g, but this year we will upgrade to 19g.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Oracle Database for approximately 25 years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable.
How are customer service and support?
The support from Oracle is very good.
What about the implementation team?
We have support from two Oracle engineers that work with our team for the use of the Oracle Database.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Oracle Databases license and maintenance prices are too high. The government ministry of finance gives us our budget and this solution is too expensive.
What other advice do I have?
In the future, we will most likely be using an open-source database solution because Oracle Database is expensive.
I rate Oracle Database a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Department head of gas projects design at ENPPI
Easy-to-use interface, simple to deploy, and can be customized to your processes
Pros and Cons
- "The interface is easy to use."
- "Better integration with other databases would be an improvement."
What is our primary use case?
We use Oracle as an in-house development database.
What is most valuable?
The interface is easy to use.
What needs improvement?
The reporting can be improved. SAP has more reporting features than Oracle.
Better integration with other databases would be an improvement.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Oracle Database for 20 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Oracle is a stable product.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We cannot scale this solution. We have about 1,000 employees that use it.
How are customer service and support?
I have not been in contact with technical support.
How was the initial setup?
Oracle is easy to deploy.
What about the implementation team?
We implemented Oracle by ourselves. Our IT division handles both implementation and maintenance. Our division has about 200 engineers.
What other advice do I have?
We have decided to use SAP ERP Enterprise and we plan to integrate it with Oracle. My advice for anybody who is considering Oracle Database is that as a tool, it's very easy to implement and you can customize it based on your processes or your job.
In summary, this is a good product and it's user-friendly, but I like SAP better.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

System support engineer at a financial services firm with 1,001-5,000 employees
Quick to deploy, reliable, and scalable
Pros and Cons
- "The solution is very easy to use in general."
- "I would like to see more integration with other databases and the cloud as well as Microsoft's Office 365."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use the solution to house our database applications and as a part of our ERP.
What is most valuable?
The solution has been scalable.
The stability is good. We find the product to be reliable.
The solution is very easy to use in general.
Its initial setup is quite straightforward. The deployment is fast.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see more integration with other databases and the cloud as well as Microsoft's Office 365. It should have, for example, a certificate that is then authorized in Oracle Databases so that easy division will be possible with other cloud solutions.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for eight to ten years at this point. It's been about a decade, or just under. We've used it for a long time in general.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is reliable and quite stable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. The performance is great.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is quite scalable. It's not a problem if you need to expand.
We have about 18 to 20 users on the product currently. We have managers, admins, and engineers on the product.
How are customer service and support?
We do occasionally deal with technical support. For example, in the case of the wrong data entered in the ERP, support is required to purge out the wrong information.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We did not use a different solution previous to Oracle. We've always used Oracle. We started using it at version 6 around 2006 or 2007.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward and simple. The deployment takes a maximum of one and a half to two hours. It's not difficult.
We only have and need one person for deployment and maintenance tasks.
What about the implementation team?
We are able to handle the installation ourselves.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We have a license for Oracle Database. You need one in order to use it.
What other advice do I have?
In terms of versions, we are using currently 11G and we are planning to move to 12G in a couple of months.
I'd rate the solution at a ten out of ten.
I would recommend this solution to others considering implementing it.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Technical Team Lead at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
Easy to use, stable, and offers great technical support
Pros and Cons
- "Technical support is great."
- "If you want to scale, it will get even more expensive."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use the solution for data storage.
What is most valuable?
Oracle is one of the strongest solutions on the market.
The user experience and the tools provided with Oracle are great. For example, there's the SQL developer, and these tools are really easy and user-friendly. You get used to it very fast.
The initial setup is straightforward.
The solution scales well.
We have found the solution to be quite stable.
Technical support is great.
What needs improvement?
The solution has a high cost. Due to this, people are going for open-source instead.
If you want to scale, it will get even more expensive.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for ten years or so. It's been a decade or so.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability of the solution is good. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability potential depends on the package that a company gets. If you purchase Datadog, it will be easy to extend and have multiple nodes. The more features you purchase, however, the higher the price. Scaling comes at a cost.
How are customer service and technical support?
Technical support has been very helpful. They respond on time and you don't waste any time waiting for the tickets. You just get the answer directly usually in the same hour or on the same day at a maximum. We are extremely satisfied with them.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is not overly complex or difficult. It's very straightforward.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The cost is very high. All the customers that I know are planning to move to an open-source database for this reason.
What other advice do I have?
I'm just a customer and an end-user.
We used to use 12C, however, we recently moved to 19C.
I would recommend the solution if the company has a budget and if you have a project that will provide revenue to cover the price for the actual product. If a company is going to start a product that will not give the right revenue at the beginning, I would suggest PostgreSQL.
I would rate the product at an eight out of ten. It loses a few points mostly due to the high price tag.

Associate Manager at a consultancy with 501-1,000 employees
Good performance, good security, and user-friendly
Pros and Cons
- "It is user-friendly. Its performance and security are also very good. There are 300 million records for our one-year data, and we can easily query this data. You can use Oracle Database as a source for easily integrating with different databases and applications. It supports Java platforms and other applications very well. It works with SAP products better than Microsoft SQL Server."
- "It should have more monitoring features. There should be features to be able to analyze the performance with a query. In Microsoft SQL Server, when you are running any stored procedure, if you want to analyze the performance, you just run the query analyzer. You can easily find out that something is missing in a joint condition, or clustering needs to be added because of a delay. I can't find such features in Oracle Database. They should be added."
What is our primary use case?
We have started using it recently, and I don't have any use cases as of now. We are just taking the data from Oracle Database and pushing it to the further layers. We are using its latest version.
What is most valuable?
It is user-friendly. Its performance and security are also very good. There are 300 million records for our one-year data, and we can easily query this data.

For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Oracle Database for the past three months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is scalable. Currently, about 30 people are using it. We don't have any plans to increase its usage.
How are customer service and technical support?
We have never interacted with them. We are just taking the data from Oracle Database and pushing it to the further layers. We don't find any issues over there, and technical support isn't needed as such.
How was the initial setup?
It was pre-installed. We were given virtual machines for our team, and we are able to just access it through them. We get the user id and password, and we just install that ODBC driver and easily connect to it.
We don't have any rights to install such solutions. We just raise a request for installation. We don't have any authority to install or configure anything. For its deployment and maintenance, there is no need for a technical team because it is pre-installed, and we just use it. No support is required for this, and there is no need for a technical team.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It was purchased by our client. It might have been a one-time payment. It doesn't seem to be very expensive.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this solution. Everything is good in Oracle Database. It is very good performance-wise, and that's the reason most people prefer Oracle Database.
I would rate Oracle Database a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Web Developer at a government with 10,001+ employees
Stable, simple to set up and is much more organized in the latest version
Pros and Cons
- "The latest version is a lot more organized than the previous version. We can check out the regular files and our dictionaries and our created files, which are a little better organized right now."
- "The previous version was a little clunky."
What is our primary use case?
Once we get the installation done, we migrate items to our new DB and we maintain the service with tasks such as clearing the caches and taking the backups, and checking the logs. We look at what it's doing - if something's wrong or if there are any kinds of issues. Occasionally, we do some performance tuning.
What is most valuable?
The latest version is a lot more organized than the previous version. We can check out the regular files and our dictionaries and our created files, which are a little better organized right now.
The initial setup was pretty simple.
The solution is pretty stable.
What needs improvement?
The previous version was a little clunky.
I'm not exactly experienced in troubleshooting. There are issues that I can't really fix. Sometimes I'm helpless with Google also. Trying to learn to identify the exact issue I was getting a Boolean error. I need to improve my knowledge. I'd like to have more documentation or assistance in this area.
The solution could be more user-friendly,
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for five or six years. It's been a while.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It's a wonderful product. Those that have a lot of experience working with the product, those with ten or 15 years of experience, will be able to understand its core processes. Those with only a few year's experience will feel there's a certain lack of transparency. That said, I haven't had any issues with bugs or glitches, and when it is set up correctly, it doesn't crash or freeze.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is not complex or difficult. It's straightforward and pretty easy to set up.
If you are experienced it is an easy task for you, however, it is a process. We have to check every step. If we've done something wrong in any step, then the whole installation process will be for nothing. New errors will come up. We have to document everything and we have to have the requirements clearly laid out. I've learned the hard way that you cannot take shortcuts.
What other advice do I have?
We're just a customer and an end-user. We don't have a business relationship with Oracle.
We have our primary DB on Oracle 19C.
We have to manage everything, including the frontend and backend.
I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten. If it was more user-friendly, I would rate it higher.
I would recommend Oracle Database to others. We have some colleagues who are doing some small-scale businesses. For them, it might not be suitable. Not everyone should get into Oracle. It is a standard product, however, you need to understand your exact requirements.

Senior Architect at a computer software company with 10,001+ employees
Stable and scalable, recommended for formatted and structured data, and works well for a huge amount of data
Pros and Cons
- "As compared to SQL Server, Oracle Database performs better when you have a huge amount of data. We didn't face any problems when we had a huge amount of data. There were also no issues with importing/exporting and migrating the data."
- "We faced some difficulties in the network configuration area. All these things can be fixed with the support of Oracle's networking team. We didn't face any other major problems. Its deployment can be easier. It should be easier to configure for a developer. If a developer is planning a database and trying to configure it, it should be easy for him because many times, we cannot directly get help from DBAs."
What is our primary use case?
Over the past seven years, we have done many projects, and in many of those projects, we have used Oracle as a source. We are using an ETL tool from Informatica, and we have used Oracle as a source for our projects. For our configuration and repository databases, we normally use SQL Server. We are not using Oracle Database for that.
What is most valuable?

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is scalable. Around 40 to 50 customers are using Oracle Database.
How are customer service and technical support?
Their technical support is fine.
How was the initial setup?
Until version 11g, I didn't face any problem. You can completely set it up in about two hours. I tried version 12c installation once, and it was slightly different than earlier versions. Oracle Database has worked well from version 8 to version 11. These versions have the same type of things, but I faced some difficulty with version 12c, but that could be because we are not used to it. I need to go through it properly.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this solution to others if they are very particular about formatted and structured data.
I would rate Oracle Database a nine out of ten.
