A stable product needs to be made more secure
Pros and Cons
  • "There is no problem with the stability of the product...It is a scalable solution."
  • "McAfee MOVE AntiVirus needs to be made more secure, as it is one of the areas where the product lacks."

What is our primary use case?

I use the tool sometimes because it is convenient to check viruses and malware attacks and keep a check on emails.

What is most valuable?

I like the product's anti-malware features. I think the product is easy to use and is stable. In Japan, many people use Trend Micro, but I use McAfee.

What needs improvement?

As an antivirus software that is sold in many countries abroad, the product needs to focus more on localization. McAfee MOVE AntiVirus needs to be made more secure, as it is one of the areas where the product lacks.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using McAfee MOVE AntiVirus for two or three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There is no problem with the stability of the product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution.

How are customer service and support?

I don't use the product's technical support because I work as a system engineer, and for me, it is not difficult to install or maintain. For some people, installing and maintaining the product may be difficult.

How was the initial setup?

The product's initial setup phase is easy, but if McAfee is installed on other devices, such as smartphones, the installation can get a little bit difficult.

The solution can be deployed in an hour or two, but I can't remember the exact time.

What about the implementation team?

I managed the installation of the product.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There is a need to make payments towards the licensing costs of the product, but it is not too much, in my opinion.

What other advice do I have?

McAfee's support and prices differ from country to country. In Japan, if a user buys one McAfee software to use for a long time, it can be installed for multiple devices.

If someone wants to install a product for multiple clients, I suggest McAfee. In Japan, Trend Micro is preferred as it is convenient to use, and support is not so difficult to get since Trend Micro's head office is in Japan. For normal people, I suggest Trend Micro. If one person wants to install the product on many PCs, then I suggest McAfee.

I rate the overall tool a seven out of ten.

It's a flexible product.

The solution is stable.

It can scale well.

The initial setup is simple.

I've used the solution for a year or so. I haven't used it for that long.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution.

We have more than 2,000 users on the solution.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I'm also using Bitdefender. I'm using the home edition.

How was the initial setup?

Typically, the licensing is handled yearly. I'm not sure of the exact pricing.

What other advice do I have?

I'm a consultant.

I'd recommend the solution to others.

Good for protection but causes lag in the system
Pros and Cons
  • "It's valuable for protection and internet safety."
  • "One problem is that when you switch on the system, Windows 10 takes almost two to three minutes to get initiated and then McAfee adds on to it because it starts scanning automatically."

What is our primary use case?

The primary use case is for protection of personal information and internet safety. This is an individual system, so I'm the only one who uses it.

What is most valuable?

It's valuable for protection and internet safety.

What needs improvement?

The system could perform better and faster. The latest Windows, like 10 and 11, have the internal defenders available in the setup itself. It was pre-installed and it was available with the package itself. I didn't have to pay anything separately for that, so that's why I'm just keeping it as it is. Another problem is I can't delete it or I can only disable it, so when the self protective system is already in place, I don't think an additional antivirus is needed.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using McAfee MOVE AntiVirus since 2020. It was pre-installed, so it was with the package of Windows 10.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

One problem is that when you switch on the system, Windows 10 takes almost two to three minutes to get initiated and then McAfee adds on to it because it starts scanning automatically. You need to manually pause it because it slows down the system drastically. As a combination with Windows 10, McAfee makes the system a lot slower.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

With our company laptops, everything is pre-installed, and I think they are using Quick Heal in office. It's better because I don't get any popups or scanning messages. It sends the details to the respective department and they take the call, so I don't need to intervene in anything. Every two weeks or twice in a month, all the upgrades get notified. As upgrades get notified, I keep doing the updates for the office. It automatically gets updated for Windows 10.

How was the initial setup?

I didn't have to do any installation. It came with a package, so everything was pre-installed in the system.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

For McAfee, I think it's already paid until 2023 because it's added on with the Windows 10 license pricing from Dell. I had to pay for it on the Dell website, which includes the licensing cost of Windows 10 and McAfee.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate this solution 5 out of 10 because of the lag that it produces in the system. As soon as you switch it on, it takes four to five minutes in addition to the lag Windows 10 causes due to the size of the operating system. With respect to protection it's fine, but with respect to the delay of speed, it's much slower.

I wouldn't recommend McAfee Move Antivirus for Windows 10. It has a self-defense mechanism available in the processor itself. In that case, why would you need a separate antivirus? It's not required. The Windows Defender is already available and it's more than capable for just browsing through applications and websites. It's more capable of defending the system from any malware or any virus from the net. So in that case, I feel that McAfee is not required.

Expandable with good antivirus aspects but lacks stability
Pros and Cons
  • "It can scale quite well."
  • "The solution uses up a lot of memory, which is a major issue."

What is our primary use case?

We have used it as an antivirus, not web protection. We deployed it on all the endpoints and all the Windows servers.

What is most valuable?

The antivirus aspect was great that's what we were most focused on.

It can scale quite well.

What needs improvement?

The solution needs better stability. There are a lot of issues.

The solution uses up a lot of memory, which is a major issue.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using the solution for three or four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is not stable. It's something that needs to be worked on.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is very scalable. It's not an issue at all if you want to expand.

That said, it is deployed at either the endpoint of the server, not everywhere.

We don't have more than three people directly on the solution. Hardly one or two people use it at any given time. We do not have plans to increase usage at this time as in general we have not had a good experience with the product.

How are customer service and support?

I've never dealt with technical support. I would not be able to rate their services.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We are now switching over to CrowdStrike and leaving McAfee.

I'm not sure what we used previous to McAfee.

How was the initial setup?

I did not handle the setup myself.

In terms of deployment and management, we had a team of six people on it. They were managing the solution and the setup process.

What about the implementation team?

This product is completely handled by the compliance team, which is part of our team. They do the complete setup.

What other advice do I have?

We did not have a good experience with McAfee. I would not recommend them to others.

Overall, I'd rate the product five out of ten. It needs to develop better stability.
