Stable and easy to set up but needs to add more filtering capabilities
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is very stable and reliable."
  • "The solution needs to be more secure."

What is our primary use case?

I primarily use the solution for the security features on offer. I use it to protect my Windows system.

What is most valuable?

The solution is very stable and reliable.

The installation is very easy and the deployment is very fast. It doesn't take a lot of time to get up and running.

What needs improvement?

The solution needs to be more secure. If they can continue to improve the level of protection it offers, it would be a better product.

They need to offer more spam filters or integrate more features for controlling junk. They need to be able to filter during browsing. That would help make the solution more secure.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using the solution for about four or five years at this point.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable. I haven't had any issues with it. There are no bugs or glitches. it doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I cannot speak to how scalable the solution is. I haven't used it in a way that would require scaling and therefore have never experimented with expanding it beyond what I need right now.

I just use the solution myself, for personal use.

How are customer service and support?

I've never had to contact technical support. Therefore, I cannot speak to how helpful or responsive they would be.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I tend to use McAfee and Symantec for my security solutions. I use them both to protect my systems.

A long time ago, I used Norton Antivirus.

How was the initial setup?

The initial implementation is straightforward and simple. It's not overly complex or difficult.

The deployment itself takes maybe five to ten minutes. It's very fast. You are up and running in no time.

What about the implementation team?

I am able to handle the setup and deployment myself. I don't need to rely on an integrator or consultant. The process is easy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

You do need to pay a license fee in order to use the product.

What other advice do I have?

I have the solution on my personal laptop. The solution automatically updates and therefore I never need to check what version I'm on to make sure it's the latest.

I'd rate the solution at a seven out of ten. If it offered better protection, I would rate it higher.

I might recommend this solution to other users and organizations.

Detects and deletes known malware and the DLP
    Pros and Cons
    • "The features that I have found most valuable are its ability to detect and delete known malware and the DLP in particular."
    • "They could improve the monitoring and classification of the data features."

What is our primary use case?

We use McAfee MOVE AntiVirus for a number of things - the normal endpoint firewall, DLP, solidcore, and more. We have a solution that is at the server. Then we have super agents at the branches, because we are a bank. We use McAfee Data Exchange Layer. We use also use McAfee Endpoint Security. We have all the models that come under McAfee Endpoint Security.

    What is most valuable?

The features that I have found most valuable are its ability to detect and delete known malware and the DLP in particular - that's to protect data loss to USB devices.

    What needs improvement?

We are currently doing a project where we need assistance on the File Integrity Monitoring feature for McAfee as well as the ability to do classification of data. That feature is there for data protection. We need help to implement it properly.

They could improve the monitoring and classification of the data features.

Additionally, I want to experience the EDR of McAfee. Basically, EDR is the most potent threat now, that's the major concern for a lot of people. This is what is called the file-less attacks. Processes that run in memory, traditional antivirus software are not able to detect that. So the EDR feature has been made to provide the defense mechanism for the endpoint. Those processes can be stopped from running in memory once they are seen as malicious. That's what I understand EDR does. So I want to experience the EDR feature for McAfee to see how that compares with what we are currently using.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using McAfee for more than 10 years.

We have a local vendor that supports us.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is stable. It has worked for us over the years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

As I mentioned, we have this architecture of super agents across network branches. That's what we have done to ensure that, with respect to boundary constraints, only super agents pick up updates from the head office and distribute to the branches.

As a matter of fact, we've only done the deployment to a Microsoft environment. None for Linux or Unix. We haven't done any McAfee for Linux or Unix.

We can still improve on scalability. In fact, some of these things, also depend on other factors and not necessarily on the product. It's very important to put this thing in perspective. The operating environment challenges can also affect how scalable things can be. It's not necessary on the product.

I don't blame the scalability on the product, I am also looking at the operating environment.

I would rate the scalability a six or seven.

How are customer service and technical support?

We are quite satisfied with customer support. We had a challenge about two years ago when we were not getting enough support. But the partner has been able to resolve that now.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We do have other anti-malware tools. That's because of the decision we made some time ago for file-less attack scenarios. Because we didn't have McAfee's EDR feature at the time we had to go for another product, specifically for EDR. We are thinking of evaluating EDR for McAfee sometime in the future to see whether we can consolidate our endpoint protection with only McAfee. So there's room for McAfee to evaluate EDR. That's the only feature that we don't have.

In the past we tried ESET. I will say that McAfee happens to be a better product for us. Based on experience, if I'm comparing McAfee to ESET, I prefer McAfee.

    How was the initial setup?

McAfee is not that easy, you need to be trained. But because we have an agreement with the vendor that supports us, they provide technical support and assistance to us anytime we need help for any kind of deployment. That's the arrangement that we have.

Deployment took about a month or so.

    What about the implementation team?

Going forward, we are trying to convince the vendor to give our in-house staff training to build some level of competence, which hasn't happened yet. That will be one of our medium-term or short-term goals.

We had different experiences. We have other challenges that affect our ability to deploy, which are internal challenges. Typically, deploying the solution should not be that difficult. It's all about getting the right resources to get a deployment done. It's not much of a big deal. It's all about our own internal challenges that we have to overcome.

What other advice do I have?

McAfee is known to be one of the best anti-malware products out there. We are aware of what's happening in the industry.

The only advice I would give is to ensure there's a proper business arrangement in terms of the support. If there is no support from the vendor deploying the solution, then they must enforce training and knowledge transfer during the project implementation period so that there can be in-house support. Otherwise, they should have a kind of agreement that can confirm that the vendors can support them after deploying the solution.

On a scale of one to ten, I would rate McAfee MOVE AntiVirus an eight.

    Pros and Cons
    • "It has a very good interface."
    • "It's an expensive solution."

What is our primary use case?

We have about 100 users in our company and we are customers of McAfee.

    What is most valuable?

The interface is the most valuable feature - it works very well.

    What needs improvement?

I'm happy with the solution but the pricing could be improved, it's very expensive.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for about six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    The solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    The solution is scalable.

How are customer service and technical support?

I haven't had any issues with technical support.

    How was the initial setup?

It helps us deal with hacking and other threats in our environment
    Pros and Cons
    • "MOVE AntiVirus helps us deal with hacking and other threats in our environment. We have two or three layers of additional security on top of the firewall, and the other thing is data security. MOVE helps us cover such things."
    • "Our only issue is performance. McAfee needs a plan to make that better."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use MOVE AntiVirus for data security and preventing hacking.

    What is most valuable?

MOVE AntiVirus helps us deal with hacking and other threats in our environment. We have two or three layers of additional security on top of the firewall, and the other thing is data security.  MOVE helps us cover such things.

    What needs improvement?

Our only issue is performance. McAfee needs a plan to make that better.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used MOVE AntiVirus for more than 10 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    MOVE is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    MOVE is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

We have a dedicated security team for this solution, so we handle it separately. And if there are any issues with implementation, we contact McAfee support.

    How was the initial setup?

There are so many things that need to be plugged in, so the difficulty of the setup depends on the requirement.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We pay for an annual subscription.

What other advice do I have?

I rate McAfee MOVE Antivirus 10 out of 10.

Provides a flexible and user-friendly console
    Pros and Cons
    • "McAfee provides a console which is very flexible, usable and user-friendly."
    • "McAfee drive encryption does not work very smoothly."

What is our primary use case?

I use McAfee antivirus, DLP, drive encryption. I use it for its anti-malware features.

    What is most valuable?

The solution works fine. Its processing of the hardware resources on my clients' computers do not take long. McAfee provides a console which is very flexible, usable and user-friendly. Sophos, too, is user-friendly. The solution has deep learning threat-hunting-like ransomware protection. This is why I like both of these products.

    What needs improvement?

McAfee drive encryption does not work very smoothly. While I make use of it, I have found that it does not work properly on the machine. Along the way it tends to get corrupted and this can happen on certain drives. I know there are many issues worth mentioning, although I am hard pressed to come up with specific ones at the moment. In respect of hardware resources such as RAM, there is also a need to improve the antivirus features.

Deep learning, machine learning should be added as a feature. Ransomware protection should be updated for the latest ransomware extension. By comparison, Sophos has many new features, such as deep learning in XDR. McAfee needs to be improved so that its features can compete with those of Sophos, such as threat hunting, threat analysis and an additional lockdown feature for the server.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using McAfee MOVE AntiVirus for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    The solution is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    The solution has good scalability.

How are customer service and technical support?

VMcAfee technical support is very good. The first thing which must be done is to log a case, at which point we must wait one to two hours at times, something I find time consuming.

Overall, though, the support is very good, although Sophos' is comparatively better.

    How was the initial setup?

Installation is definitely very easy. At the moment, we are making use of the cloud consoles, so there is only a need to register one's email ID and password, which will provide access to the console.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

As my role is technical in nature, I am not in a position to comment on pricing.

What other advice do I have?

The solution is both cloud-based and on-premises.

McAfee is the way to go for someone who only is interested in using DLP and antivirus. It will also allow a person to use the device controller. Sophos makes available the use of full DLP. However, one must use Symantec for drive encryption, which is very good.

I rate McAfee MOVE AntiVirus as an eight out of ten.
