What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable.
How are customer service and support?
We've never had to reach out to technical support.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I've previously used other solutions, including Cisco, Brocade, and HP. We use all of these. It depends on what the client prefers or the budget of the project. There aren't big technical differences between any of these.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward. Deployment took two to three days.
What about the implementation team?
I handled the implementation myself.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
You only have a one-time payment when you purchase the solution. The pricing isn't subscription-based. This particular solution is very cost-effective.
What other advice do I have?
We use the on-premises deployment model. We're system integrators.
I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.

Head of ICT Unit with 11-50 employees
The centralized management is very good and it is easy to set up
Pros and Cons
- "I like the control one has with this solution."
What is our primary use case?
Our primary use case of this solution is to support our users by providing internet services and university academic system software resources.
What is most valuable?
I like the control one has with this solution; you manage everything from one central point. Everything including the devices and the switches. So the centralized management is one thing that I really like about Ubiquiti.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Ubiquiti UniFi Switches for three months now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I've been using the solution for three months only, so I can't say if it is stable or not. But I've had no glitches or bugs so far.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The Ubiquiti switches are my access switches. I use Cisco for my edge and I wanted to see if I can have some copying prototypes to so that I wouldn't have problems in the design. I'm yet to do that, if I can have a common configuration that's compatible with the Cisco switches for the core and for the distribution and then Ubiquity for the access. But I can't comment much on it yet.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I'm still using Cisco, but I switched to Ubiquity for the access because I want to leverage on the price tag on Ubiquity.
How was the initial setup?
The setup was straightforward. So far working on the solution has been a learning curve. I'm in Ghana and there's no training center here, so I learn by using the online tutorials.
What about the implementation team?
A vendor came to deploy the solution for me.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Yes, we have evaluated Tradenet, D-link, Huawei and Cisco too.
What other advice do I have?
I will rate this solution an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud

IT Administrator at a outsourcing company with 1-10 employees
Easy to install with a reasonable cost and good stability
Pros and Cons
- "I haven't found the cost of the solution to be too high."
- "I'd like there to be better reporting for the solution."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use the solution as a bridge to extend our LAN.
What is most valuable?
The solution is very good for expanding our LAN.
The product has proven itself to be stable.
The scalability is very good.
The installation itself is very easy.
I haven't found the cost of the solution to be too high.
What needs improvement?
Given that it has a portal, which is online, if it can be accessed remotely that would be ideal. If they can add that feature or if there is that feature, they need to make it public.
I'd like there to be better reporting for the solution.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used the solution for a couple of years at this point.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is very good. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable in terms of the performance on offer.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The product is scalable. There are no issues if a company needs to expand it.
We have 30 people using Ubiquiti Switches in our organization.
We do plan to continue to use them.
How are customer service and technical support?
I've never directly dealt with technical support. There hasn't been an issue that has required us to reach out. Therefore, I can't speak to how helpful or responsive they are in general.
How was the initial setup?
The installation process is pretty straightforward. it's not overly complex or difficult.
Our local supplier in Zimbabwe is the one who has been doing all these configurations for me, however, the implementation is not that difficult. You can just use a manual to configure it. It's not much of a hassle. It's more like a plug-and-play solution. I am also using the wifi distribution access point. They are not a challenge at all. It took me less than five minutes.
What about the implementation team?
We have a local supplier that has done our configurations. However, at this point, I have acquired enough knowledge to be able to do it by myself.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
For what I'm using Ubiquiti for, there hasn't been any need for licenses as it's more like a plug-and-play setup. I'm just using a portal, which is free as well. There hasn't been much cost involved in using the solution.
What other advice do I have?
We are a customer and end-user. We don't have a business relationship with Ubiquiti.
I'm using the latest version of the solution at this time. I cannot speak to the exact version number.
I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten overall.
I would definitely recommend the product to other users and companies.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

IT Director at a manufacturing company with 201-500 employees
Good pricing, good user interface, and a straightforward setup
Pros and Cons
- "The interface and the duality are the solution's most valuable features."
- "Some of the features needed to set up the solution are too complex. There's a lot of technical information that is required."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use the solution to enhance the availability of power on our network. It's also used to speed up the traffic.
What is most valuable?
The interface and the duality are the solution's most valuable features.
What needs improvement?
Some of the features needed to set up the solution are too complex. There's a lot of technical information that is required.
The solution could use a central console to manage all devices.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for about one year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable. Up until now, we haven't experienced any issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable. If you are comparing it with some other brands in terms of scalability, I would say it performs the same.
How are customer service and technical support?
We haven't had a reason to contact technical support yet.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We were using Cisco switches previously. We have a mixed environment, so we have various routing switches in use.
How was the initial setup?
The difficulty of the initial setup depends on what purpose the solution has or how you want to set up the switch. If you limit it to the basic functionality, then the initial set up is quite simple. If you want to have something more advanced on the switch, then it's a bit tricky. Our team deployed the solution in about five days. You only need one person for deployment and maintenance.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
In comparison with other brands, there isn't too much difference in the pricing. They're all pretty similar.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We did evaluate other options. Mostly, we were looking at pricing, which is why we chose this solution.
What other advice do I have?
We use the on-premises deployment model.
I would recommend implementing this solution because it's quite easy. The brand seems to be a bit unknown in the Romanian market because there is not so much advertising for it. Other brands like Cisco or Hubbard are often more common and suggested by local vendors.
I'd rate it eight out of ten.

Consultant
Easy to use, the VPN performs adequately, and the technical support is okay
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable feature for us is the VPN."
- "It would be helpful to have better visibility into exactly what is going on in the network."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use this solution for the VPN and it has been successful for us.
How has it helped my organization?
Ubiquity UniFi is adequately doing what we need to do.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature for us is the VPN.
This solution is easy to use.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see the security features improved.
It would be helpful to have better visibility into exactly what is going on in the network. In particular, I would like to have more control over the internal MAC addresses because I have none at the moment. Specifically - I see payloads with virtual MAC addresses - but the management software does not show these addresses in the statistics.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Ubiquiti UniFi Switches for two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
In terms of resilience, this solution seems to be okay. I just upgraded and it has been stable. We haven't had a failure in the 120 days that have passed since the previous upgrade.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It seems to me that there are problems with the performance of my current gateway. I currently have a 500-megabit symmetrical link and I think that I'm at the limit of what it can handle.
We have fifteen users and we don't plan on increasing usage at the moment.
How are customer service and technical support?
I have only used technical support on one occasion and it seemed to be okay.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Prior to UniFi, we used a homegrown Unix environment. I upgraded it to use the UniFy because it seemed to be straightforward. I put in a 48-port power-over-ethernet switch that has the flexibility to handle VOIP and the other services that we need.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was reasonably straightforward. I currently use the management console bound to a server, rather than use the cloud key. I did purchase one but it's now obsolete because I use services that it doesn't support.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I feel that the price of this solution is definitely reasonable compared to all of the others. Once you buy the equipment, there are no additional fees.
What other advice do I have?
I am exploring the possibility of using our Ubiquiti switch as an external gateway but I'm not sure whether I want a gateway in the cloud, or what kind of gateway exactly, so this is something to be decided later.
My advice to anybody who is considering this solution is that you really need to look at the risk profile. Also, I don't think that it is necessarily scalable because I think that I'm on the edge of the limit of what we can use it for. However, there may be something else coming that will assist with this.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Owner at ThinkEzIT
Works extremely well, great price point and easy setup
Pros and Cons
- "Good price point and very simple to use."
- "There is currently an issue with supply of switches which needs to be sorted out."
What is our primary use case?
Through my distributors, I'm an authorized reseller for Ubiquiti.
What is most valuable?
I like the price point of this solution and it's very simple to use with a straightforward setup.
What needs improvement?
The switches supply chain is a huge issue they need to improve. Secondly, Ubiquiti doesn't provide support unless you pay for it. Support is either via live chat or the forum and I think the support should be included in the cost.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been working with this solution for 12 years.
How are customer service and technical support?
In principal, there is no support provided. You can pay extra to receive it.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is simple and works well. I can pull up my Untangle switch or my Untangle router in one screen, and then pull up my Ubiquiti stuff on another screen and work with both at the same time.
What other advice do I have?
I've done point to point setups, internet setups, and I've worked with Ubiquiti edge routers and edge switches including UniFi routers, UniFi switches and WAPs. I've worked with all aspects of Ubiquiti. They're a great product and they work well, it's just difficult to get hold of switches now with the chip shortage, but if you're going to be doing projects with a lot of clients who will use Ubiquiti switches, my recommendation is to buy a couple of extra switches and have them in stock.
I rate this product a nine out of 10.

Network System Engineer at a tech services company with 11-50 employees
Easy to use with centralized management, simple to install, and configure
Pros and Cons
- "The GUI interface is very easy to use and the Linux-based command-line interface is also good."
- "The technical support for this solution could be improved."
What is our primary use case?
We are a tech services company and this is one of the solutions that we provide to our customers. I have worked a great deal with Ubiquiti switches and other products.
The primary use case for this solution is to supply power to access points and Voice over IP devices. For example, we install one 24-port switch so that we can connect multiple devices into it, and then create different VLANs.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is that you can manage everything through the Cloud Key UniFi controller.
The fact that you can manage everything including the switch-level configuration, and access point configuration of both the wireless networks and the LAN, is very useful.
The GUI interface is very easy to use and the Linux-based command-line interface is also good. I am happy with the interface.
What needs improvement?
The price of this solution should be more competitive.
The technical support for this solution could be improved.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for one year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There was a point where I had to create cases with technical support because I couldn't access the Cloud Key. However, those issues seem to have been resolved with updates that have been done. At this point, it is running well.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I have not tried stacking these switches, so I cannot say. It seems to me that it should be fine if you are going to make trunks between the switches, but I haven't done this yet.
I have performed fourteen installations, and some of our customers have approximately one hundred and fifty users.
How are customer service and technical support?
I was in contact with technical support for issues with the Cloud Key. I would rate them three out of five. The technical support for this solution could be better.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup of this solution is quite straightforward. You just add the SSH key onto a Cloud controller, and from there you can do everything. Right from the first installation, I didn't need to check the manual.
I have been installing the Ubiquiti 8-port and 24-port, 500 Watt PoE switches, together with the access point. Most of the time, we don't just install the switch, but in combination with the access points.
The time for deployment depends on the configuration. If you are only setting up an access point then it is quite straightforward because it doesn't need to worry about VLAN. But, if you need multiple VLANs then it's going to take longer to configure. For example, if you're going to make one VLAN for somebody at home then it's no time at all. However, if you need to make ten or twenty VLANs then it's going to take you some time. I can't say how long, because again, it depends on the installation.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
This solution does not charge for technical support. Unlike vendors such as Cisco Meraki, there is no cost for licensing.
What other advice do I have?
This is a solution that I recommend. It's simple to use, and the installation and configuration are pretty straightforward. Anyone who has a little bit of experience with switches and firewalls could use it.
I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

Director, Corporate Services at a insurance company with 201-500 employees
Should be changed to a recognized solution, but provides remote access use and side-to-side connectivity
Pros and Cons
- "The two most valuable features are the remote access user and the side-to-side connection."
- "I would recommend changing the solution to a recognized one, such as Check Point or Fortinet."
What is our primary use case?
I have yet to explore the use cases. Of the eight or ten users with whom we set it up, I have not yet received feedback about the solution or whether it engenders problems. Perhaps this is something I should pursue, to satisfy myself that the solution is being utilized and to apprise myself of any issues.
What is most valuable?
The two most valuable features are the remote access user and the side-to-side connection.
What needs improvement?
I would recommend changing the solution to a recognized one, such as Check Point or Fortinet.
The problem on our end is that we did not have the contingency in our budget to accommodate the purchase of the solution.
For how long have I used the solution?
Six months ago I explored the solution, at which point the decision was made to go with it.
What other advice do I have?
As I said, I have yet to receive any feedback on the use of or potential problems with the solution. I still have people working from home, so the solution provides the sole means of access.
As such, I would rate Ubiquiti UniFi Switches as a five out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud
