What is our primary use case?

I primarily use Trend Micro ScanMail because most of our customers have email gateways that only scan traffic coming from or going to the internet. I chiefly employ ScanMail for this type of scanning. However, our clients prefer that when their internal users send emails to each other, those emails are also scanned. Moreover, if there is anything in their mailboxes, it's regularly scanned. This feature is particularly effective when internal users send emails to each other. We also conduct regular mailbox scans and always find something, such as threats detected after a virus definition is updated.

The most effective feature of ScanMail is its real-time antivirus behaviors, particularly when it scans URLs. This has been very effective in preventing email threats. Additionally, it enables scanning of mailboxes, which is a significant advantage. ScanMail consistently protects against malicious attachments or scripts contained in emails. It also safeguards against malicious URLs within email bodies, reinforcing its effectiveness. The primary benefit is the regular scanning of mailboxes, ensuring protection against evolving threats.

In Pakistan and elsewhere, I find that service providers need to ensure email security to prevent email scams and avoid having their IP addresses blacklisted. I use Trend Micro ScanMail to scan emails and secure email communications.

What is most valuable?

Trend Micro ScanMail is an integrated solution that offers both email security and spam protection without the need for a separate sandbox. Unlike FortiNet, it provides a complete solution within a single box, which I consider a valuable advantage over competitors.

The weaknesses of Trend Micro ScanMail are that it doesn't fully protect ad-based web access and lacks proper security for Outlook, iOS, and web browser access. As a result, I need to use multiple security products: ScanMail for regular email and another solution for securing Outlook web access. I would like to have a single security solution that covers all my email and web access needs.

A strong and effective email security solution

"I like that Trend Micro ScanMail is very effective and quite strong."

"The price could be better. I think it's pretty good compared to other solutions as far as the features are concerned. It basically covers most of the stuff which we require for email security. But it would be better if they made it a little cheaper and more cost-effective. That would make it easier for us to sell it."

Works fine and can handle a high volume of emails, but the management console and the report engine are old-fashioned

It should communicate with other products. For example, any information about spam or ransomware coming from one IP should be sent to perhaps a firewall or antivirus of a client to indicate that a particular source IP has to be excluded to avoid any ransomware problem.
