Provides flexibility and simplicity in building automation
Pros and Cons
  • "The ease of building automation and the development environment"
  • "Lacking advance features like CIO and optical character recognition"

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case is for automation. To date, we have automated approximately 50 use cases for different functions including finance, order management and fuel pricing. Most of our projects are finance-related and we use the product on a daily basis.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature would be Object studio - the ease of building automation, the development environment where you basically build the flows and the logic. The other aspect of value is its support for security controls and data integrity.

What needs improvement?

The product could be improved by including advance features like OCR - optical character recognition - which are currently not native to the product. We are looking at integrating Blue Prism with other products. They've told us that Blue Prism Decipher is coming with intelligent document processing solution, but I haven't seen it.

It would be good to see OCR integration and OCR capabilities included in the solution and, of course, going forward, artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the product for the past year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We haven't had any major crashes or bugs in the product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's quite a scalable product.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support have been very responsive.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used a different solution that was a desktop-based automation tool. Blue Prism is a server-based product that is a more mature and stable product compared to what we were using earlier. The differences between the two products are not related to whether it's on cloud or not, this is just a better solution.

How was the initial setup?

Initial setup was not too difficult, the difficult part was our own infrastructure and the cloud set up. We had internal resources and consultants helping. The  whole setup and deployment of the solution took almost three months which included architecture of the infrastructure, installing Blue Prism and starting automation.

What about the implementation team?

We have developed in-house capability on RPA, though we did get initial support from external consultants.

What was our ROI?

It's a little too early for us to be able to judge the ROI because we have a long-term view of investment and returns. We expect the return to pay off in four to five years, and we're still only in the second year. If you take the complete investment in the whole Blue Prism RPA center of excellence the ROI is still a few years away, but initial results look promising.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We pay to receive enterprise support, so that should be taken into account for anyone wanting to implement the system.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Yes. Along with Blue Prism we evaluated Automation Anywhere, UI Path and NICE.

What other advice do I have?

I would suggest that anyone using this solution leverage expertise from Blue Prism, which is offered for the first six months. The consultancy advisory services are useful.

I would rate this product an 8 out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Quite stable which is imperative to the industry we serve
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of Blue Prism's Virtual Workforce is that it is quite stable."
  • "Several things need improvement, like ease-of-use, adding tended robots, adding process recording, and updating the look and feel so it seems modern."

What is our primary use case?

We were involved in implementing this product in many network branches of the Bank of Raiffeisen. It is used for transaction monitoring, automating invoicing, sending documents to customers, and other types of banking transactions.

What is most valuable?

I would say that the most valuable feature in Blue Prism's Virtual Workforce is that it is quite stable and this is imperative to the industry we serve.

What needs improvement?

One area that the product can be improved is the ease-of-use because it is not easy to work with.

Another area where it could improve is adding more automation features that it does not yet have like tended robots. Right now this solution only has unattended RPAs (Robotic Process Automation).

One of the additional features which I would like to see included in the next release is process recording. It is a feature that can actually record some process and convert the processes to code. This can save time so that development could be much more rapid. That would be a very valuable addition.

The interface is pretty user-friendly as it is, but I think it is also an area of Thoughtonomy which could be much better. So it is not bad now but there is quite a bit of room for improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using it since some time in 2016, so it has been three to four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the product is very good, which again is very important to our clients.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I think that the scalability of the product is very good. It is actually very easy to scale.

Group-wide, I think that our organization has somewhere between 70 to 100 developers. That is over 13 countries. We also have plans to increase the usage of automation in the future. We are trying to get our services into every single network bank. I don't know how that will happen and I don't know how long it will take. It is a big undertaking.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I do not know exactly what the pricing is that we get on the product but I know that we get a pretty good deal because we are a huge group. We have over 50,000 employees with good clients and plans for growth, so we were able to negotiate a fairly good price. In general, I am also aware that our organization is satisfied with the cost of the product.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I was not involved in the process of selecting Blue Prism. I have some experience with it and it works, but right now, I'm exploring other options. Specifically, I would like to make a strong comparison with UiPath. There may be other products to explore as well that can improve on our current RPA capabilities.

What other advice do I have?

On a scale from one to ten where one is the worst and ten is the best, I would rate Blue Prism as an eight out of ten.

I do have some other reservations about the product. Personally, I would recommend using something else for automation projects, but I'm not in a position to make that choice in my company. I mean, it is a very good product for doing what it does. It is very stable and does its job. Somehow, even if automation of this type are fairly modern, I feel like Thoughtonomy was created for people who learned to code 30 years ago and not for the developers of today. It may not be taking full advantage of advancement in technology.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Good Configuration, but the no-code feature could be enhanced
Pros and Cons
  • "With Blue Prism, I like the feature that you build, I don't know the exact name now, but blocks or standards can be reduced later. You configure, for example, the CRM system, and you create a standardized manner of inputting data into the CRM system that you can reuse later. I'm not sure what that's called, but I enjoy it whether it's a feature or not."
  • "The issue is that it is not dynamic or intelligent."

What is our primary use case?

We use Blue Prism Cloud for a variety of purposes, but mostly for customer service and financials.

What is most valuable?

With Blue Prism, I like the feature that you build, I don't know the exact name now, but blocks or standards can be reduced later.

You configure, for example, the CRM system, and you create a standardized manner of inputting data into the CRM system that you can reuse later. I'm not sure what that's called, but I enjoy it whether it's a feature or not.

The configuration of it is good.

What needs improvement?

The issue is that it is not dynamic or intelligent. If something changes in the main platform or something similar, the bot might quickly become lost. However, there is a need to consider and rule, which takes time.

In general, make it more of a no-code feature so that you may configure it for the process owner, or the process user, and not just a single developer.

For how long have I used the solution?

I switched companies in the previous few years. But, personally, I have been using Blue Prism Cloud for approximately four or five years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I am currently on parental leave, but I believe the organization has approximately 50 users.

How are customer service and support?

I have never contacted technical support. I am more on the business side of things or a profit analyst.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I am not sure how we are set up today, but I recall we had an annual License.

It is a little bit difficult because of how we handle it; we want the business to absorb the price of the licensing.

What we need to do is, if we automate the process, split the cost so that one bot, for example, may handle many procedures.

The expense must then be allocated to various business divisions. But I suppose that's very old.

In a well-structured corporation, such a large structured company it may be difficult for us to share the cost depending on where it is used at times. However, in general, it's usually a good business case if you could find a good use case for it.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Blue Prism Cloud a seven out of ten.

Great object-oriented design and an excellent security model
Pros and Cons
  • "Ability to see the blueprint of the design executed alongside the actual process."
  • "There's a need to deal with unstructured input with RPA."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use cases are fairly generic and relate to any type of use case where there is a lot of repetitive activity, what we call "swivel seat" processing, where you might be looking at one application and then you swivel around and enter information from the first application into the second application. A company doesn't necessarily have the manpower or money to integrate the two applications programming-wise, so they hire people to look up information in one application and enter it into another. It's applicable to insurance companies where claim information is transferred from one application into another, or quotes for customers that come in via one system and then needs to be manually entered into another system. We see a lot of financial application type use cases, whether it's vendor creation, vendor invoicing, bank reconciliations or general ledger end-of-month reconciliations.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature would be the ability to see the blueprint of the design executed alongside the actual process.

What needs improvement?

Improvement could be made with training and access to an ecosystem and developer's forum. I would suggest building out the ecosystem for developers to obtain training on the tool without having to make a heavy investment in licenses. For additional features, there's always a huge need to deal with unstructured input with RPA and I'd love to see built-in intelligence automation tools to deal with unstructured inputs.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's a pretty stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I think the scalability capabilities are quite high.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is average.

How was the initial setup?

Initial setup was quite complex, it's not a simple installation and takes a fair amount of high-level infrastructure and architectural knowledge to be able to complete the installation. Deployment took a couple of days.

What about the implementation team?

Implementation usually requires at least one developer, one BA, an infrastructure engineer, a solution architect, and some assistance during deployment. Then you'd need somebody monitoring the virtual workforce. There are probably seven or eight different roles, some with heavier reliance, throughout the implementation cycle.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Annual licensing costs were somewhere between $5,000 - $10,000 for the development tool. For the control tower, I think fees were about $50,000 annually.

What other advice do I have?

In terms of advice, I'd say that if you have the technical expertise, it's a good tool, however, it's difficult to get training without being involved in a project. So it's kind of hard to break into it, as opposed to some of the competitors' tools where anybody can download the tool and get working and learning without having to actually be on a project. It helps to have access to free training and tools and community additions of the tool which unfortunately doesn't really come from Blue Prism.

It's a very sound tool with a good reputation for having a good security model, which is important to a lot of companies and it's got more of an object-oriented design flavor to it. Deployment is a mix of private, public and hybrid cloud. There is about a 50/50 split between Azure and AWS.

I would rate the product an eight out of 10. I will likely give it a higher rating when there is easier access for people who want to learn how to use the tool. I think that's what's holding us back.

Partner portal that integrates well with various technologies, and is easy to use
Pros and Cons
  • "If I look at the top four, I believe it is far more user-friendly than the other competition."
  • "I believe they need to become more competitive within the market in order to maintain their market share. We were essentially a Blue Prism shop and sold Blue Prism, but because of the price point, many clients are now looking at competitors."

What is our primary use case?

My current role entails defining the strategy. It's not even the administrative part; it's just comparing different products according to the Gartner quadrant and understanding fit for the purpose of the organization.

What is most valuable?

If I look at the top four, I believe it is far more user-friendly than the other competition.

In terms of functionality, I believe Blue Prism, has a partner portal that allows integration with various technologies, I believe they are on the right track. There are no concerns there.

What needs improvement?

I believe they need to become more competitive within the market in order to maintain their market share. We were essentially a Blue Prism shop and sold Blue Prism, but because of the price point, many clients are now looking at competitors.

For how long have I used the solution?

My experience with Blue Prism Cloud is limited.

I spent five years consulting before moving into corporate.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have used it with a number of clients and it appears to be stable. There are no concerns with the stability of Blue Prism Cloud.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Definitely, Blue Prism Cloud is a scalable solution.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We are also dealing with UiPath, WorkFusino, and Automation Anywhere.

Microsoft Power Automate, which comes standard with your Microsoft tools, I believe is gaining traction in the market. I haven't seen any large-scale deployments yet, but that's something to keep an eye out for.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. it is easy to install.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

As a consultant, we worked with Blue Prism on pricing, we resold licenses.

I believe UiPath is making a strong push into the South African market. They are providing many clients with the opportunity to migrate at a reduced cost.

When compared with UiPath, I believe it will be difficult for Blue Prism to maintain its market share.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I'm not a technical person; rather, I'm an executive. I was trying to gather information about the strategy and approach. When it comes to the specifics and technicalities, I don't have a lot of information.

What other advice do I have?

It's more from a strategic perspective, but I believe it makes sense overall. We've installed it both on-premises and in the cloud, and the cloud has proven to be far more beneficial simply because the environment is outsourced. Where providers offer this maximum uptime, it simply eliminates the need for on-premises support.

I was the reseller. I am now a digital executive looking to implement digital tools.

I'm not too knowledgeable about the functionalities and technicalities.

Based on my limited knowledge, I would rate Blue Prism Cloud an eight out of ten.

An easily scalable product with a great support team that needs to improve its performance
Pros and Cons
  • "It is an easily scalable solution."
  • "I think that there are some improvements in the product performance that are needed in Blue Prism Cloud...The initial setup of the product needs a lot of time and effort."

What is our primary use case?

In my company, we implement the same processes with Blue Prism Cloud as we did with Contextor in the past. Our company is in the process of automating some internal processes with the help of Blue Prism Cloud.

What is most valuable?

Blue Prism Cloud is a well-structured product that ensures its users have a solution and a server with everything on an on-premises model. After you install Blue Prism Cloud, you have a server, especially after everything gets started. In general, you have the product more structurally. Though a certain amount of development is possible in Blue Prism Cloud, only some normal programming can be carried out.

What needs improvement?

I think that there are some improvements in the product performance that are needed in Blue Prism Cloud. When I compare the performance of Blue Prism Cloud with Contextor, I see a huge difference. Contextor is very fast compared to Blue Prism Cloud.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Blue Prism Cloud since 2019. My company has a partnership with Blue Prism Cloud.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a seven out of ten. In my company, when we were trying to migrate to a newer version of Blue Prism Cloud, we found some issues that we had to fix and get involved with some workarounds.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is an easily scalable solution. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

I have experience with the technical support team of Blue Prism Cloud. The technical support team of Blue Prism Cloud was very fast to respond to my queries. I rate the technical support a ten out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

In 2017, after SAP acquired Contextor, my company decided to move to Blue Prism Cloud.

Compared to SAP, which provides users with a cloud, with Blue Prism Cloud, you have everything on an on-premise model.

With Contextor, you have the option for development, meaning you could still code, but with Blue Prism Cloud, you can't carry out the same tasks as in Contextor since it doesn't provide you with a drag-and-drop option.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of the product needs a lot of time and effort. There are a lot of switches that you need to have in place before starting work with Blue Prism Cloud. On the other hand, for Contextor, you just need to install the software and have the license and password. In general, Blue Prism Cloud setup phase is a bit complex.

The deployment process of the product is a phase that can be carried out very fast. You just prepare a release and export or import it, a very fast process.

The solution is deployed on an on-premises model.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Though I don't have many details, I think Blue Prism Cloud is an expensive product compared to the other tools in the market since you need to pay for resources like machines.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend others to use Blue Prism Cloud.

I rate the overall tool a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Cloud based solution that is effective at automating operational processes at scale
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is the speed at which we are able to implement solutions that can interact through the user interface in the same way that a human being would."
  • "It would be useful if some of the information protocols came built within the app instead having to create them."

What is our primary use case?

We used this solution for automating operational processes.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the speed at which we are able to implement solutions that can interact through the user interface in the same way that a human being would.

What needs improvement?

It would be useful if some of the information protocols came built within the app instead having to create them.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have used this solution for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This is a scalable solution.

How was the initial setup?

This solution was complex to deploy at the beginning, but that's mainly because of how our own infrastructure is set up. Everything is in the cloud so we had to put in a solution that allows one area of the cloud to speak to another area of the cloud.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

This solution comes at a medium to high price point. They need to work on their pricing to enable smaller enterprises to get the benefit of using the product.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
