Restores files accidentally deleted by developers and efficiently blocked a lot of attacks against our servers
The backup, the vulnerability assessment, and the anti-malware capabilities have been most impactful for data protection. Acronis approaches cybersecurity holistically, focusing on five key pillars: * Protection * Detection * Response * Recovery * Forensics It covers the need to block threats, investigate incidents, and ensure disaster recovery. This approach aligns well with current cybersecurity trends, including backups and deploying Malware Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) systems alongside Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) systems. While it doesn't yet include features like password management or security awareness training for end-users, Acronis has announced plans to integrate those in upcoming updates.

Provides excellent visibility and helps reduce costs and time
We use intuitive administrative tools that readily reveal the volume of backed-up data. Our Commvault CommCell servers alert us to failed backups and provide detailed information. This transparency allows our managed service provider to easily grasp our pre-established thresholds and readily scale up with new technologies. We're highly satisfied with Commvault's automated data security and management policies. They meet our stringent requirements for secure and private data storage, including anti-ransomware protection and encryption. Notably, they also ensure compliance with GDPR for backups stored in Europe and other regions, fulfilling our regulatory obligations. Threat Scan's ability to scan backup data for threats is invaluable because it proactively identifies and neutralizes certain viruses and threats that may originate from our G Suite or be reported by our security incident response team, preventing potential outages. Commvault provides excellent visibility across our entire organization's data. They perform regular health checks, informing us of areas of strength and offering recommendations for improvement. These recommendations may include upgrading to newer product versions or addressing issues identified during the checks. It is important for our organization that Commvault provides a unified platform for recovery across cloud, on-premises, and software-as-a-service workloads. This is particularly important because many of our existing cloud environments rely on basic backups that are insufficient for our needs. Commvault empowers us to address this issue. We have implemented it not only in our own operating company but also across the corporate structure, rolling it out to virtually all AWS users. This is because the standard backup methods, such as snapshot backups, fail to meet our stringent requirements for recovery, service level agreements, and crucial functionalities like threat detection and other security features. Commvault ensures a robust and comprehensive backup infrastructure that satisfies all our essential needs. It has improved our organization by ensuring we meet our infrastructure requirements, adhere to our vulnerability methodology, and achieve service level agreements for both backup and storage requirements. The quarterly risk analysis allows us to effectively manage the lifecycle of both data and backups. It also sheds light on the types of data and backups we have, providing valuable insights. Commvault's risk analysis is one of the tools we use to meet our compliance requirements and implement the necessary controls for immediate security policy action. To ensure comprehensive data protection and comply with international regulations like GDPR, we rely on Commvault alongside our established financial systems and SOC-compliant practices. Commvault has helped us reduce our organization's data management costs by 75 percent, particularly for long-term backups. We ditched tapes and virtual tapes thanks to Commvault, replacing them with a fully disk-based backup system and cloud backups in AWS and Azure. By implementing Commvault, we've significantly reduced our backup times. This is achieved through a combination of incremental backups and data aging. Aged data is then moved to cheaper disk or cloud storage, ensuring cost-effective long-term retention while still meeting our recovery SLAs. While the overall time savings may be around 10-15 percent, the main benefit is not keeping everything on expensive primary storage and efficiently aging it out. Consequently, retrieving data from the Azure bucket typically takes five days or more, reflecting our agreed-upon SLA. It has reduced our recovery point objective, allowing us to store more backups. However, new regulatory and compliance requirements mandate that some backups cannot be deleted and must be retained indefinitely. To address this while still improving efficiency, we've implemented solutions for long-term data storage and improved data management practices. Commvault has helped our organization not only decrease our threat detection time but also improve threat prevention to such an extent that we often avoid facing the full impact of a threat altogether. By preventing these incidents, we're often unsure of the precise amount of time saved, but the benefit is clear: we don't need to activate disaster recovery mechanisms. It has not only helped us reduce our recovery time objective, but it has also ensured that our backups and long-term storage are secure, thanks to its comprehensive capabilities. In terms of total cost of ownership, Commvault has enabled us to significantly reduce both hardware and media costs for storage and backup. After factoring in encryption and compression, the total savings amount to close to 80 percent. It has been able to reduce downtime, but having a quick recovery plan and policy and SLAs that are published are met regularly.

Pros

"Data protection and ransomware protection are the most valuable features of the solution."
"The most valuable feature I have found the be the management console it is very easy to use and automation is important. Additionally, overall the solution is easy to use."
"It provides quick backup recovery."
"Stability is a ten. No issues, no performance drops, and no crashes."
"The most valuable features are the automated backup, and that you are able to manage all of your devices centrally."
"The tool's backup and cybersecurity features are good. I haven't had any complaints from any users. Everybody likes the XDR and EDR that it provides. The solution is simple and easy to use."
"It has one console for many loads and one backup for many recovery options. Converting backups as a virtual machine offers an edge as a low-cost Disaster Recovery solution."
"I am impressed with the product's file-sharing feature."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to backup over the dedicated Fiber Channel directly from SAN."
"Great archive feature, OnePass, for the file system and Exchange servers."
"The diversity on offer is very, very good. Everything is supported. It's great."
"It never fails. Sometimes we miss a backup, but there's always a reason for it, and it's not the fault of Commvault. In the last three years, we've never had to open a ticket with Commvault."
"Commvault is a very stable product."
"It's a software-based solution so we just need a license to expand it."
"We recommend this product for people who are running the Oracle Virtualization Manager."
"The compression and deduplication are great for optimizing bandwidth and speed. I don't have to worry about it or think about it, and, because it's a SaaS solution, I don't have to worry about the storage size."

Cons

"The pricing policies could be improved. So in future releases of the product, I would like to see better pricing, primarily."
"The solution is expensive."
"Technical support needs improvement. They are too slow to respond, and when it comes to backups, it's critical to deal with issues quickly."
"Acronis Backup Cloud can improve by having fewer updates and patches to the solution. Additionally, should improve the functions that already exist in the solution rather than add new ones."
"We'd like to see more DLP, data loss prevention."
"The shortcomings in the solution can be overcome if the product improves in the area of completion time so that the restoration process does not take much time."
"In the solution, you have the customization option for reports but it is limited and should allow more customizations in terms of how long or when you can do the reports."
"Some proactive alerts or emails are not currently available."
"Commvault likes to be ahead of the game when it comes to merging with other platforms, but sometimes it's before they have the solution truly baked in. Office 365 is an example. I feel that my company might be a litmus test for their solution, because we have such a large environment. Some of the promised solutions that we received from Commvault were more like testing solutions. They weren't really validated, meaning they were possibilities. There have been a lot of hot fixes for the solution that we're using right now, more than we expected."
"When you deploy Complete Data Protection for past services, it's more complicated because you cannot directly back up from the previous service host. We have to build a proxy server, like a middleware, to directly access the past database server. It's complex and hard for beginners to figure out."
"There is room for improvement in the data center application running on the cloud for the platform."
"The price of Commvault HyperScale X could improve."
"The only problem is that some of what we snap most of is the VMs. We found about 10% of the VMs that we can't snap because they're too interactive. It actually causes the application to crash."
"The customer support is not good."
"When we started using Commvault, we felt that there were some technical issues with managing it, but we are comfortable enough with managing it now. There were many issues, like index corrupting, when we first started, but all those issues were resolved by the Commvault tech team."
"You need quite a lot of human resources to maintain a Commvault environment, to keep it operational. Also, it would be nice to if there were an easier way set up some Commvault components."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is moderately priced, where it is neither cheap nor expensive."
"The cost of Acronis Backup Cloud is good. They have several licensing models that customers can choose from."
"The product is not that expensive, making it a product that can be considered for purchase. I rate the product's price a four on a scale of one to ten, where one is expensive and ten is cheap."
"Acronis offers a 30-day free trial of the product."
"I rate the solution's pricing a six out of ten. You don't have to pay any additional costs."
"It's a subscription license with free trial licenses."
"It's a monthly payment of $1,000 USD."
"It's relatively cheap, but you see the benefits more at a higher volume."
"The solution is licensed based on the number of objects that we're going to back up, and that's a known quantity. As a result, we get predictable costs for our backup requirements."
"One of the most interesting aspects is that the licensing model can be modified. We're paying for our licensing by the client, as opposed to the size of the footprint of the backup, which decreased our cost by about 20 percent."
"The complete license gives us options for all the features. Commvault does not license based on storage or the management components. It can integrate with any storage vendor. That means that when we are out of storage and need more, we can integrate without additional licensing. In my opinion, Commvault needs to reduce the licensing cost by 20 to 40 percent to make it cost-efficient."
"I looked at this at the beginning of the year and I don't remember what the prices were for all the other services, but I thought that Metallic's was fair. It was also highly rated, which was even more important than cost because I need a reliable, secure, backup method."
"Metallic is an affordable solution."
"On a scale of one to ten, where ten is the highest price, I rate the pricing an eight."
"The price could perhaps be lower as well."
"Commvault's pricing model and pricing structure were initially confusing, but once we worked more closely with the company, we were able to transition to a subscription license that saved us a lot of money."
