Automation has transformed firewall changes and has reduced audit effort and breach risk
The best features AlgoSec offers include automation of firewall rule changes, centralized security policy management, and improved compliance and audit readiness. AlgoSec has positively impacted my organization by allowing us to see faster change management, reduced audit costs, and reduced breach risk. I can share specific metrics indicating that through OpEx savings, we have been able to reduce firewall rule analysis and rule change handling time by 60 to 90 percent. This has led to fewer manual tasks and a smaller workload on our network and security teams. We have seen a return on investment with reduced audit costs, less time spent preparing evidence manually, and reduced breach risk. I would like to add that on centralized security policy management, it reduces complexity in multi-vendor environments.

Has managed traffic effectively but lacks visibility and advanced control features
Azure Firewall is typically behind other vendor firewalls because we don't see what kind of traffic is traveling through it. That is one drawback. The main drawback is that we need log support from Azure Firewall, which can be quite costly. There is no login feature in Azure Firewall because only the IAM feature is available in the Azure site; we manage it only through the Azure portal, not through any other portal. Other vendors, such as Palo Alto, provide GUI or CLI interfaces to manage their firewalls, whereas we only manage Azure Firewall through the Azure portal. In the future, I would like to see additional features in Azure Firewall Manager to make it more competitive, such as technologies like App-ID and User-ID that Palo Alto has. Azure Firewall currently only allows traffic based on layer four and sometimes layer seven, so they need to improve in those areas compared to other vendors.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"The most valuable feature of AlgoSec is its ability to generate comprehensive reports. As a firewall analyzer, it's very useful for reviewing and collecting information at a single point. The tool also helps generate reports automatically, which is beneficial for us."
"One of the most valuable features of AlgoSec is its capability for identifying unused and risky rules, which cannot be done through manual analysis."
"AlgoSec ASMS brings a holistic view of network firewall policy and automates firewall security management in very large-sized environments."
"AlgoSec Firewall Analyser improves the firewall rules dramatically by identifying rules and objects that are not needed and consolidates rules and rule re-ordering."
"It has reduced our audit preparation efforts and costs drastically and maintains continuous compliance."
"Through OpEx savings, we have been able to reduce firewall rule analysis and rule change handling time by 60 to 90 percent, leading to fewer manual tasks and a smaller workload on our network and security teams."
"The training provided by AlgoSec helps a lot in the development of employees who work with the tool."

"Azure Firewall Manager centralizes network security management with a hub and spoke architecture."
"Azure Firewall Manager centralizes network security management with a hub and spoke architecture."
"From a traffic management perspective, it's a good firewall because it's automatically scalable based on the traffic availability."
"The best feature of Azure Firewall Manager is that it is easy to maintain and configure."
"The solution has improved our organization with its firewall."
"The solution is very easy to set up."
"The most valuable feature of Azure Firewall Manager is the testing and configuration."

Cons

"The documentation could be better."
"AlgoSec has a bit of a learning curve."
"Releasing hot fixes or patches is late compared to other security products."
"Creating more intuitive menus could be helpful, especially for first-time users."
"The only problem I have with AlgoSec is just its level of support, not with the product. Not with the organization or the documentation or anything else, but if I need any additional support, the only problem is the time it takes to get it."
"AlgoSec can probably do better at introducing features for the cloud firewall scenarios. This is something that will probably help customers. It needs a hybrid scenario that includes private cloud, public cloud, and on-prem things. If a feature could cover all three different types of deployment, that could probably make it even more desirable for clients."
"Our experience with support has been inconsistent. Sometimes, support is fast and clean; other times, not so much. Occasionally, they have taken a while to respond or provided an inadequate workaround instead of a solution."
"We would like to have a kind of "Time Capsule" to be able to restore to a certain state from a backup."
"Azure charges for many aspects including scaling, automated scaling deployment, and traffic management, which leads to higher costs."
"The configuration and settings require substantial time for learning, particularly for new users."
"Azure charges for many aspects including scaling, automated scaling deployment, and traffic management, which leads to higher costs."
"The cost is a significant concern because we are in a region where the dollar is not our default currency, and converting to dollars makes it very expensive."
"The price is okay. This said, the solution is certainly expensive in comparison with other cloud services."
"The configuration and settings require substantial time for learning, particularly for new users. Improvements in ease of configuration would benefit users significantly."
"For Azure Firewall Manager, the learning curve for new people is a bit challenging, but the integration should be more straightforward for configuring a centralized system."
"There should be a simple one-click deployment for a firewall, rather than a set of setup instructions that include steps such as the DNS configuration, et cetera."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I'm not involved in the financial aspect, but I understand the platform to be expensive, though I need to find out how it compares to competitors like Tufin, for example."
"The pricing could be better."
"The price is within the standard of security products."
"The price is high but the support is extremely poor, so keep that in mind before choosing this product."
"Pricing is great if you have a small number of large firewalls, otherwise, it does not bring ROI."
"Cost is based on firewall. There are bundles, e.g., virtual firewalls might make the solution cheaper."
"Use the entire suite for its best benefits."
"Pricing is okay and the licensing can be a little tricky with the initial setup."
"The price of the solution is reasonable but it is reasonable for the features."
"The solution is certainly expensive in comparison with other cloud services."
