Easy to setup with good auto-implementation and good rule reviews
AlgoSec is slow when it is loaded with too many firewalls and policies. A plan to take care of heavy usage is to be considered. Support of all firewalls and policy features to be enabled. AlgoSec should support in identifying most hit rules and re-ordering existing firewall rules - this is a very key to manage firewall CPU. A clustering of AlgoSec can also be considered. A group of AlgoSec servers managing large client bases geographically or datacenter-wise or function-wise. A head reporting unit and child processing units.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It now takes less than half of the time it took before we had this tool to deploy the flows requested by the business."
"The most valuable feature is the unused rule optimization, where it clears the policy when appropriate."
"The solution helps visualize and manage the hybrid network."
"AlgoSec is able to provide a consistent view into all of an organization's firewalls, regardless if the management is done by different companies."
"Firewall Analyzer and AppViz are the most important features because they provide a lot of information regarding network segmentation. For us, this is a valuable input in order to provide network segmentation for various applications that we have developed in-house or that we bought from vendors. Our network is not properly segmented right now, but we plan to do it using AlgoSec. This is the most important feature for us right now."
"Auditors can get PDF or CSV reports without having to give them access to firewalls."
"With the solution, we can uncover bottlenecks, streamline, and clean up our firewall rules."
"Customizability is AlgoSec's best feature."
"It's a reliable solution."
"The most valuable features of this solution are that it works better than a normal firewall, easy to explorer all of its features, and it has the Log Collector mode. This mode allows us to store our logs for two years in the solution itself."
"These features are instrumental in achieving effective results."
"Panorama enables you to provision all your firewalls and other things as a cluster. It is quite useful for that."
"It has shared profiles for all gateways. If I do not have Panorama, I need to create a separate profile for each and every gateway by logging into that particular gateway, but with Panorama, I can create a shared profile and just push it down to each and every gateway connected to it."
"Panorama has the capacity for SD-WAN configuration, which is appreciated alongside its capabilities for firewall management and firmware upgrades."
"The initial setup isn't very complex, it's user-friendly."
"Centralized firewall management and update management are the most valuable features."

Cons

"AlgoSec is slow when it is loaded with too many firewalls and policies."
"They need to improve the web interface to be a little more interactive and friendly."
"We have a fairly complex routing environment that AlgoSec struggled with having dual routers and first hop routing protocols. The initial period when we were doing an installation with their support desk was fairly challenging."
"Needs better integration between modules and also a better troubleshooting methodology."
"The interface needs to be more user-friendly for low-profile users so that we can give some kind of access to specific people around the company for self-configuration of specific rules."
"This product could be improved in several ways including more device support, an automated rollback process and options in active push, software-defined WAN integration and support, and application-aware policy identification and optimization."
"The process to replace a decommissioned device with a new device is not straightforward."
"I would like to seem improvements in performance and software stability."
"Instead of searching their knowledge base in their website, maybe they can interact with us in the user interface to explain things better."
"It communicates with remote devices, and sometimes, there is a little bit of delay during its communication with remote devices. There should be real-time communication or updates from the manager to devices."
"There is always room for improvement in anything."
"We found a vulnerability where when we have a low flow, like 2.7K, it is not getting fired by the threat prevention. That's something important to improve on. They should have a proxy or some solution to solve the issue. We also found some issues around decrypting the flow. When we have more flow than expected to decrypt, the performance goes down."
"The solution's utilization of network ports makes things as complex as possible."
"Palo Alto needs to improve deployment by making it easier to deploy an agent to a desktop."
"We have experienced a few bugs which the team at Palo Alto don't have solutions for."
"It could be easier to manage. In the future, it should be much easier because it's not very easy to manage. So in the next release, I think it should be much easier to manage, especially in the first configuration. It could also be more stable."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Price is not my concern. If a tool does its job, it is not my concern to obtain a good price for it. If a tool is needed, we are going to buy it."
"The initial cost was high for us."
"We are working with our finance department right now to be able to purchase it. The AlgoSec team is doing everything that they can in their power to get the costs down to where our budget is. They have worked a lot on it. They have cut the cost in half for us so far by questioning, "This is in the quote. Is this something that is actually needed?" They have pulled some stuff out and cut our costs down by 50% for the product itself."
"When I have active and standby firewalls, if I do an analysis of the active firewall and by mistake, I also do an analysis of the secondary or standby firewall, it'll consume two licenses from the total number of licenses I have. So, I need to change the license and make the active firewall secondary. They need to improve how they are counting the number of licenses."
"Cost is based on firewall. There are bundles, e.g., virtual firewalls might make the solution cheaper."
"The licensing is very easy to set up, with flexible licensing methods such as subscription and perpetual."
"The pricing of AlgoSec is fair."
"I'm not involved in the financial aspect, but I understand the platform to be expensive, though I need to find out how it compares to competitors like Tufin, for example."
"The licensing is not cheap. There are always hidden costs. You have support costs, or maybe you need to buy more optics on how the solution fits into the rest of your environment. It is possible some of the rest of your environment will need to change too."
"We're a reseller, and we're an MSSP. So, we get some extreme discounts."
"Palo Alto products are generally priced higher compared to their competitors."
"We pay approximately $3,000 a year in order to use the product."
"There is a license required to use this solution and it is paid annually."
"You only pay for the license and there are no additional costs."
"It is very affordable when compared to more expensive firewalls."
"The solution is relatively cheap; I rate it four out of five for affordability."
