Easy to setup with good auto-implementation and good rule reviews
AlgoSec is slow when it is loaded with too many firewalls and policies. A plan to take care of heavy usage is to be considered. Support of all firewalls and policy features to be enabled. AlgoSec should support in identifying most hit rules and re-ordering existing firewall rules - this is a very key to manage firewall CPU. A clustering of AlgoSec can also be considered. A group of AlgoSec servers managing large client bases geographically or datacenter-wise or function-wise. A head reporting unit and child processing units.

Unified firewall management streamlines operations across branches with prompt support services
The primary use case for this solution is the management of the entire firewall portfolio across various branches Palo Alto Networks Panorama has simplified management by providing a unified interface for firewall management and configuration. One of the key advantages of Palo Alto Networks…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"AlgoSec is able to provide a consistent view into all of an organization's firewalls, regardless if the management is done by different companies."
"Customizability is AlgoSec's best feature."
"The solution is easy to navigate."
"It has reduced the workload for the firewall team thanks to the API integration with our ticketing system, handling the standard types of requests automatically."
"It gives us 100% visibility into our network security policies. It has given us a couple of surprises. Over the years, the network that we are administrating has been subject to people who have an idea of how a network should be set up. That differs from technician to technician or engineer to engineer. So, we are finding little pockets of hidden little self-engineered configurations and the way things were done that nobody knew about. Once the engineer left, the knowledge of that setup disappeared. You don't know about those until something either goes wrong, or you get something like AlgoSec to discover it for you, and it says, "Hey, there is this going on over here.""
"The Firewall Analyzer component has excellent compatibility with the solution, and it's highly useful and easy to manage."
"The most valuable feature of AlgoSec is its firewall analyzer."
"Breaking down a rule to specify used objects within groups and protocols has proven invaluable for us because we are able to narrow exposure to potential threats, and more generally, areas in which we are exposed."
"I like its flexibility."
"The main value of Palo Alto Networks Panorama lies in its ability to centralize management, similar to FortiManager."
"Palo Alto Networks Panorama has good stability. I didn't see any instability from it, and its initial setup was straightforward."
"What I like most about this solution is that it allows me to push multiple policies on multiple followers at the same time."
"It provides a quicker response time to vulnerabilities and more visibility into traffic flows."
"Technical support is quite helpful."
"Firewalls: The application ID capabilities have been very useful for things like Active Directory, and not having to identify every port that Microsoft has decided to use."
"The management and the deployment features are most valuable. We can easily deploy and manage the devices. We can do fast deployments without moving from our office and by just providing a short description to the end-user about how to install the physical device."

Cons

"The MAP has a persistent issue with a firewall that is using a double BVI (Bridge virtual interface)."
"We faced internal challenges with our services and the process. If we had a closer approach from AlgoSec with instructions on how to build or change the management process, how to improve our environment, it would have been better. The big problem was more about the approval and request roles, and bureaucratic side of things."
"Some of the auditing functionality needs improvement. Our major focus is the firewall validation process and tracking and verifying that changes are implemented correctly. We are actually doing parts of the auditing process manually. And getting any one of the vendors to bring out a good auditing process has been very difficult."
"Further integration with ACI and NSX will be key to our customers' requirements moving forward, as customers adopt new, innovative environments."
"Certain firewalls don't integrate with AlgoSec, and it would be great if this bug could be fixed."
"Some UI experience is a little clunky (for e.g. MAPS module) and could be made more user-friendly."
"I would like more documents and support for the cloud firewall."
"In a complex landscape, with several nodes/equipment, it can be somewhat more difficult to properly visualize the network map."
"The general customer feedback is when saving the configuration, it takes a long time. That needs to be fixed. The troubleshooting, the debugging part is also a little bit of a pain. It's not user-friendly on the interface to do our debugging when comparing it with other firewalls, like Forcepoint."
"Customer support can improve."
"The integration between Strata Cloud Manager and Panorama could be enhanced to allow customers to stay on Panorama for many years while still utilizing Strata Cloud Manager for deployment."
"From a storage perspective, I would like to see an improvement where logs can be compressed to make some space available."
"We found a vulnerability where when we have a low flow, like 2.7K, it is not getting fired by the threat prevention. That's something important to improve on. They should have a proxy or some solution to solve the issue. We also found some issues around decrypting the flow. When we have more flow than expected to decrypt, the performance goes down."
"A bottleneck in Palo Alto Networks Panorama is the licensing. The licensing model for the product is complicated. Another area for improvement is the PDF report generation because you'll notice that it's missing some details."
"There is room for improvement in the graphical user interface (GUI), which is becoming outdated, especially the NAT section."
"There is always room for improvement in anything."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"For cloud environments, it can be expensive. The model adopted to use as licensing for the cloud environment should be reviewed since it sometimes can increase the value of the service/product in an unexpected way. For example, they should instead use the amount of instances, which should just take into consideration the number of Security Groups and ACLs."
"Cost is based on firewall. There are bundles, e.g., virtual firewalls might make the solution cheaper."
"The pricing is flexible with a low cost setup."
"The pricing could be better."
"I compared the prices of AlgoSec with Tufin and FireMon. I don't recall the exact cost, but it was within budget and not very expensive. In addition to standard licensing fees, we didn't have any significant additional costs. We did hire new people for the change management process, but that's not a technology issue."
"AlgoSec may be little pricier with its licenses, but it is probably better than any of other competitors."
"I propose to purchase licenses for all of the networking devices in the network, because if not all of the devices are integrated then the query of particular access cannot be discovered entirely."
"We are working with our finance department right now to be able to purchase it. The AlgoSec team is doing everything that they can in their power to get the costs down to where our budget is. They have worked a lot on it. They have cut the cost in half for us so far by questioning, "This is in the quote. Is this something that is actually needed?" They have pulled some stuff out and cut our costs down by 50% for the product itself."
"Initially, Palo Alto looks expensive, but if you dig deeper then you will find that it is very comparable, or even cheaper than other solutions."
"The price of the licenses could be lower. Still, because we have Panorama with 25 firewalls, Palo Alto gives us a good discount."
"Palo Alto products are generally priced higher compared to their competitors."
"The price of Panorama is expensive."
"The price of Palo Alto Networks Panorama is expensive."
"You can buy the hardware only and each box is not even $10,000. It's only $8,000 for the unit itself. However, then you are charged a three-year license at $81,000."
"The solution is priced well and there is a license for this solution that we pay annually for."
"The price of Palo Alto Networks Panorama could be lower."
