Enhances security with effective identification of unused and risky rules
There should be improvements in the analysis between internal zones, such as internal to DMZ or guest to DMZ. These scenarios should be considered critical and enhancements should be made, even if the risk score is set high. Improvements are also needed in the area of PCI, specifically the PCI controller.

Built-in proxy with the ability to maintain your own policies
Our company uses the solution for monitoring and policies. We monitor data, make rules for firewalls, and allow source IPs to destination IPs with respect to ports and services.  We also use UR filtering to allow or block things. We have a Prisma Access Firewall that we allow or block for remote…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"AlgoSec AFA and AFF automate lots of things for my organization."
"AlgoSec has a feature that provides intelligence on which rules are correct. It was crucial in helping us understand which rules were important and which ones could be turned off or removed, simplifying the structure. It helps prioritize actions and performance needs. The performance boost we had was huge. We were considering buying new firewall structures, but with AlgoSec, we just organized the rules and avoided spending more money on the environment."
"AlgoSec has improved our organization in terms of improving efficiency within our firewall setup. It has added automation to working process that has helped us achieve our initial goal of reacting faster to incoming requests, which as a result of allows the relevant teams time to focus on other areas of importance."
"It provides faster go to market with fewer resources."
"AlgoSec contributes more in the security space for our company, especially in automatically finding the high risk and medium risk rules instead of manually reviewing over a few thousand rules."
"The training provided by AlgoSec helps a lot in the development of employees who work with the tool."
"AlgoSec made our life easy."
"The solution provides us with full visibility into the risk involved in firewall change requests. This is very important for us because we are regulated according to the FDA. It shows us which changes have been made and why. So, it has worked very well for our compliance needs."
"The most valuable feature of Palo Alto Networks Panorama is its innovation and impressive capacity to handle network traffic efficiently."
"This solution is user-friendly. It is centrally managed and provides role optimization, without the need for additional tools."
"The telemetry visibility is really good as well as the automated workflows for creating policies. The overall solution is quite intuitive to use."
"Palo Alto Networks Panorama has good stability. I didn't see any instability from it, and its initial setup was straightforward."
"Panorama has improved the organization by enabling log collection, administration, and optimization of firewall policies. It supports policy migration and offers platform stability and decent uptime."
"It has shared profiles for all gateways. If I do not have Panorama, I need to create a separate profile for each and every gateway by logging into that particular gateway, but with Panorama, I can create a shared profile and just push it down to each and every gateway connected to it."
"Our team has the option to make configuration changes at any given time."
"The initial setup isn't very complex, it's user-friendly."

Cons

"FireFlow was a bit tricky to configure with its customized flows."
"I would like to see continued expansion to other firewall versions, platforms, and vendors."
"Releasing hot fixes or patches is late compared to other security products."
"In terms of additional features in the next release, more integration with SD-WAN would be valuable."
"It doesn't support all features on our firewalls. For instance, planning changes, which include net rules, doesn't work. It didn't integrate so well with the ACI network."
"Due to the fact that AlgoSec's user interface is less friendly than that of other programs, it might not be appropriate for persons with little experience in security or IT."
"Priority should be to improve the user interface for the risk and compliance part, making it more responsive and user-friendly."
"The initial cost was high for us, but we have always been behind the tech curve and cost has always been the limiting factor."
"The central firewall management could be better."
"Sometimes technical support is slow to respond."
"We found a vulnerability where when we have a low flow, like 2.7K, it is not getting fired by the threat prevention. That's something important to improve on. They should have a proxy or some solution to solve the issue. We also found some issues around decrypting the flow. When we have more flow than expected to decrypt, the performance goes down."
"The general customer feedback is when saving the configuration, it takes a long time. That needs to be fixed. The troubleshooting, the debugging part is also a little bit of a pain. It's not user-friendly on the interface to do our debugging when comparing it with other firewalls, like Forcepoint."
"I am observing that whenever pushing our configurations sometimes the configuration will not push properly and then we have to go to the individual firewall and save it again."
"The configuration could be a bit better."
"It communicates with remote devices, and sometimes, there is a little bit of delay during its communication with remote devices. There should be real-time communication or updates from the manager to devices."
"Lacking in speed and reliability."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Licensing is offered as a subscription and as a perpetual model."
"It has improved our performance in operations, projects, and security."
"The cost is kind of high but I really did not check any other vendors."
"Licensing is very easy to set up. The pricing is relative to how you want to expand and harden your network security."
"AlgoSec is not a cheap product. If I compare Firemon and AlgoSec, because I am also Firemon certified, Firemon is still cheaper in price than AlgoSec."
"Initially, it was more expensive, but we managed to negotiate the price. It's about average now."
"My advice is that you must do a POC and show value."
"I find the price too expensive. It looks a bit like SAP, so it does have standard functionality out of the box, but you will spend a lot of money if you want to customize it. However, the price is not as extreme as SAP or Oracle, but the actual implementation does turn out to be expensive."
"The price of Palo Alto Networks Panorama is expensive."
"The price of Palo Alto Networks Panorama could be lower."
"Palo Alto products are generally priced higher compared to their competitors."
"The pricing could be lower."
"It is very affordable when compared to more expensive firewalls."
"Everyone, I suppose, would like the price to be improved. Price is always a good thing to change."
"Palo Alto is costly compared to Fortinet and Sophos."
"Sometimes the company prefers to give a license to test the product in our environment before we go to the customer. But the customer should buy his own license, and that's the system here. The system is different between one country and another. Some countries say that the IT solutions provider should provide the license."
