Automation has transformed firewall changes and has reduced audit effort and breach risk
The best features AlgoSec offers include automation of firewall rule changes, centralized security policy management, and improved compliance and audit readiness. AlgoSec has positively impacted my organization by allowing us to see faster change management, reduced audit costs, and reduced breach risk. I can share specific metrics indicating that through OpEx savings, we have been able to reduce firewall rule analysis and rule change handling time by 60 to 90 percent. This has led to fewer manual tasks and a smaller workload on our network and security teams. We have seen a return on investment with reduced audit costs, less time spent preparing evidence manually, and reduced breach risk. I would like to add that on centralized security policy management, it reduces complexity in multi-vendor environments.

Good support, nice interface, and simple to upgrade
PDF format is not available for Alert Composer. There are file attachment or body content output options. The other issue is that the range object can be displayed in the rule viewer section. If we know the range object, we provide imaging, but if we do not know the range object, there is no imaging. It also allows adding range object rules when performing server cloning. In general, however, we have made successful progress since the POC process.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We can optimize and produce reports for 744 firewalls from different vendors (Check Point, Juniper, FortiGate, and Cisco) with one application."
"It has helped to detect all unauthorized changes made on my firewalls."
"It is very useful for PCI DSS compliance."
"We can easily make our firewall flow change requests using the web interface."
"It's a really simple tool with strong results."
"We now have more visibility into our firewall and security environment using a single pane of glass."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to deploy new rules in all of the firewalls included in the environment at one time."
"AlgoSec has given us the confidence to remove unused rules, consolidate where appropriate, and prove reachability prior to searching a rule base to check access for an application or user."
"The platform is easy to deploy and maintain."
"Version upgrades can be done quickly."

Cons

"I think that AlgoSec could improve the application by improving the treatment speed."
"I would like to see continued expansion to other firewall versions, platforms, and vendors."
"They can make some improvements to the user interface because it can be slow at times."
"It's slow to synchronize a database that is not synchronized."
"FireFlow was a bit tricky to configure with its customized flows."
"We are using AlgoSec directly against our Cisco Firepower. At first, AlgoSec didn't work with Firepower. It didn't know how to read the logs. So, improvement has been made. Now, the feature that was available on the older generation firewall is available on the current one, but this is a problem which has already been dealt with."
"AlgoSec has a bit of a learning curve."
"We needs object level permissions and application level recertifications."
"The product's web page view is very basic. They could add new features to it."
"PDF format is not available for Alert Composer."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pricing is great if you have a small number of large firewalls, otherwise, it does not bring ROI."
"The pricing is good. Though, I would like if pricing could better support small businesses."
"My advice is that you must do a POC and show value."
"The licensing scheme should be done in a simpler way. For example, if we delete a firewall and want to add a new one, then the license doesn't get freed up automatically. You have to request a new license to customer support and install it. If you are testing new implementations, this can be cumbersome."
"The pricing for this solution seems to be reasonable for the functionality."
"When it comes to the cost of support and licensing, it is much cheaper than other competing products."
"The price is high but the support is extremely poor, so keep that in mind before choosing this product."
"It seems we have recovered our money on this appliance, so it is money well spent."
"Opinnate is inexpensive than other products."
