Helps identify risks, reduce attack surfaces, and streamline policy changes
It allows organizations to identify risks, reduce attack surfaces, and streamline policy changes required to deploy or migrate applications safely and quickly. With ever-changing infrastructure and threats, keeping security policies optimized is extremely challenging. AlgoSec's continuous monitoring capabilities allow organizations to maintain proper controls and compliance coverage as the application landscape evolves. No longer are security changes made blindly. AlgoSec gives organizations the visibility and intelligence needed to make application connectivity changes confidently while managing risk and compliance. Having all these capabilities seamlessly integrated into one platform makes AlgoSec a powerful tool for digital transformation initiatives involving constant application change.

Good support, nice interface, and simple to upgrade
We use Opinnate mostly to tighten firewall rules on the optimization side. cleaning shadow rules, deleting expired and disabled rules. The decommission feature is also a nice feature.  The automation and reporting part is also very useful. Cleaning up the use of Duplicate Objects also makes the…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It has allowed us to tidy up the firewall estate by reducing the number of duplicated rules and monitoring changes that are being made."
"We have been able to increase the effectiveness of the team, allowing them to prioritize more complex and business-critical tasks in a faster manner."
"It has reduced the workload for the firewall team thanks to the API integration with our ticketing system, handling the standard types of requests automatically."
"Firewall Analyzer is valuable because it makes searching our existing policies so simple."
"R&D patches to address issues that I have encountered have been timely and effective."
"AlgoSec has reduced the need for additional manpower and we can now use the time to tackle other security-related issues."
"The most valuable feature is the unused rule optimization, where it clears the policy when appropriate."
"One of the most valuable features we've found in AlgoSec is its ability to analyze network flows to help define new, less permissive rules. This functionality is crucial for enhancing our network's security posture by ensuring that only necessary traffic is allowed."
"Version upgrades can be done quickly."
"The platform is easy to deploy and maintain."

Cons

"The pricing for smaller installations should be lowered because sometimes there is just no ROI to add AlgoSec to the small branch offices with only 10 rules."
"Automate the change documentation in MS Word format. Therefore, we can customize it, if needed."
"We faced internal challenges with our services and the process. If we had a closer approach from AlgoSec with instructions on how to build or change the management process, how to improve our environment, it would have been better. The big problem was more about the approval and request roles, and bureaucratic side of things."
"Support for Layer 7 policies, including User-ID and threat profiles with Palo Alto firewalls, has been a pain point from us. We would like to include the additional info specifically because we believe it changes the riskiness of the rule if it is only set for a specific user or a group of users."
"The UX control panel is in need of improvement."
"It needs better API integration with its third-party firewall management."
"The GUI has not been upgraded for a long time and could use updating."
"More scope for editing alerts would be a welcome change."
"The product's web page view is very basic. They could add new features to it."
"PDF format is not available for Alert Composer."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I compared the prices of AlgoSec with Tufin and FireMon. I don't recall the exact cost, but it was within budget and not very expensive. In addition to standard licensing fees, we didn't have any significant additional costs. We did hire new people for the change management process, but that's not a technology issue."
"The cost is kind of high but I really did not check any other vendors."
"When I have active and standby firewalls, if I do an analysis of the active firewall and by mistake, I also do an analysis of the secondary or standby firewall, it'll consume two licenses from the total number of licenses I have. So, I need to change the license and make the active firewall secondary. They need to improve how they are counting the number of licenses."
"Initially, it was more expensive, but we managed to negotiate the price. It's about average now."
"The pricing is good. Though, I would like if pricing could better support small businesses."
"Setup cost and pricing were reasonable and the licensing was straightforward."
"Pricing is okay and the licensing can be a little tricky with the initial setup."
"Cost is based on firewall. There are bundles, e.g., virtual firewalls might make the solution cheaper."
"Opinnate is inexpensive than other products."
