Seamless collaboration, excellent technical support, and provides a single source of truth
Although ARIS is already a leading tool in the BPA space for years, in my opinion, there are a few areas that can be made even better, For example: 1. The reporting capabilities and the ability to create custom reports need to be simplified and made easy so that people even with a good functional understanding of the tool can leverage it to create their own custom report. Since, at the end of such BPA/BPM implementations, higher management typically wants to see the value coming out of ARIS and all the modeling effort and this would make it more adaptable for our customers as they would see the value coming out of the tool. 2. As the world is going the way of low code/no code, they should also think of modernizing the report creation in a similar fashion. 3. The integration capabilities with other COTS products should be better. Since every organization uses many applications/systems for day-to-day operations, the easy integration with such systems like SNOW, SFDC, et cetera, will make the adoption easy for the client rather than seeing ARIS as a standalone system with separate license and maintenance costs.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is a well-featured, functional product."
"ARIS process modeling and analysis allows integration of end-to-end business processes with the organization's vision, strategies, and business objectives, through visual management."
"The matrix model makes building relations easier."
"MFT is quite attractive. A large amount of data is passed in almost no time and it is quite easy to use."
"It has allowed us to model our enterprise process architecture."
"You can relate different aspects of an organization to each other, and you can clearly define the rates seen in the application."
"I am an advanced user. ARIS BPM is intuitive for me because I know the UML, BPMN, and EPC methodologies implemented in this tool. It is very easy to create processes for restructuring a company with some descriptions."
"The whole ARIS BPM solution is a bit special, because from the very beginning it was targeted more to Business users and the Management."
"A product with good API and EDI components."
"It frankly fills the gap between IT and business by having approval and policy enforcement on each state and cycle of the asset from the moment it gets created until it is retired."
"The messaging part is the most valuable feature."
"The developer portal is a valuable feature."
"The solution's ease-of-use is its most valuable feature, in which complex issues may be resolved."
"Clients choose webMethods.io API for its intuitive interface, promoting seamless interaction and quick communication between systems."
"It is good for communicating between the systems and for publishing and subscribing. We can easily retrieve data. It is good in terms of troubleshooting and other things."
"Broker and UM are the best features."

Cons

"I would like to see the reporting aspects improved."
"We should have the ability to download ARIS EPCs to Visio."
"Training is one of the important aspects for process awareness. As soon as a process is rolled out, process training is required. If ARIS could generate output in PowerPoint, it would be great for business users."
"The Risk and Compliance Management tool is rather complex and moreover, it needs to be customized if you want to use it."
"The governance mechanism could be better, as could automation."
"ARIS needs to make a better user interface. The user interface sucks. The problem with ARIS is that they have two interfaces for the same product."
"Improvement should be made as per customer requirements."
"Areas for improvement include sales, prospecting, shopping, customer service, after-sales (claims and advice for the client), and all processes pertaining to customer loyalty."
"Documentation needs tuning. There is a lot of dependency with SoftwareAG. Even with the documentation at hand, you can struggle to implement scenarios without SAG’s help. By contrast, IBM’s documentation is self-explanatory, in my opinion."
"There are things that could be improved with the webMethods API gateway. One thing is that it's too attached to the integration service and we'd like it to be a little bit more independent. We would like for them to separate operations so that it doesn't rely on the bulky integration server and so that it can be used everywhere."
"The price has room for improvement."
"The market webMethods Integration Server falls under is a very crowded market, so for the product to stand out, Software AG would need to get traction in the open source community by releasing a new version or a base version and open source it, so people can create new custom components and add it to the portfolio."
"Understanding the overall architecture is difficult."
"The on-premises setup can be difficult."
"The stability of the various modules of the product suite have been a bit of a concern lately. Though their support team is always easy to reach out to, I would prefer it not come to that."
"The product's stability is an area of concern where improvements are required."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Their license model is really difficult to understand, and licenses are quite expensive."
"ARIS enables you to start small and grow the use of the solution over time, although it's quite expensive. So if you want to start small, it's quite an investment for a small company."
"You will never get a fixed price for this product because they will go in and ask you what kind of environment would you like to set up? How many people will you work with? How big is your organization? Today, they have a fixed price to say, "Okay, just to start the business area, buy two licenses for modeling and eight people that can look into the product." They have this kind of fixed price. It's 50,000 Danish Krone. If you divided that by about six, then you get the pricing in dollars. Still, when you are going out, negotiate and find the right price. You will never get a fixed price: "It costs this and, if you take ten of these, seven of these and eight of these, and then it costs this." No, you negotiate every time."
"The product is expensive."
"The setup cost and pricing depend on the license (Modeler, Viewer, Administrator)."
"From my point of view, no, it is not cheap, but it is not too expensive because you get this big organization behind it, technical support, and all those things. It's not so expensive to use. It's a Rolls Royce in this field, I know that. Even for small organizations, they can get so much effect from using this tool, in a very fast way, so the money will be back in the customer's pocket very fast."
"The solution has a fair price for the value it delivers."
"It depends on different parameters."
"It's a good deal for the money that we pay."
"Some of the licensing is "component-ized," which is confusing to new users/customers."
"The solution's development license is free for three to six months. We have to pay for other things."
"Its cost depends on the use cases."
"I do think webMethods is coming under increasing pressure when it comes to their price-to-feature value proposition. It's probably the single biggest strategic risk they have. They're very expensive in their industry. They've been raising the price recently, especially when compared with their competitors."
"The price of webMethods Integration Server isn't that high from an enterprise context, but open-source ESB solutions will always be the cheapest."
"It is an expensive tool. I rate the product price a nine out of ten, where ten means it is very expensive."
"webMethods.io is expensive. We have multiple components, and you need to pay for each of them."
