Flexible, efficient, allows the concurrent development of documentation and lets you add comments offline
An area for improvement in Atlassian Confluence is encouraging more vital interaction among the project members or users involved. I was researching a tool, but I forgot the exact name of the tool, and that tool could be used for better interactions offline among users on a specific topic, development, or discussion. I want that feature to be present in Atlassian Confluence. If there's a possibility to integrate Atlassian Confluence, Jira, and that other tool, that will make Atlassian Confluence better. My team had problems accessing Atlassian Confluence a couple of times, but I wonder if that was due to a network, server, or tool issue. I have to say that I've been working with Atlassian Confluence for years, and it has been improving its functionalities, so I feel that as a tool, it's working very well, but some features could still be improved. For example, the search engine should allow you to define some keywords you could use when searching, though I wonder if it's staff-related or setup-related, or lacking in the search engine function itself. I also want artificial intelligence added to Atlassian Confluence where you're working on a specific issue or argument, and Atlassian Confluence, through its AI, can propose some improvements based on what has been done on the same topic by different teams or different projects within the same infrastructure, similar to an internal reference, which can be helpful. Through AI, it would also be great if Atlassian Confluence could advise you on what has been done outside your specific project, and maybe there's the possibility of an installation where you have several projects installed and working together. Another feature that would be good to have in the next release of Atlassian Confluence is the tool recognizing a keyword or two that's fully developed in project B, which you can use in project A, for example.

Being free to extend or alter it is important for us.
The open source nature of Drupal, being free to extend or alter it is massively important for us. We also use it to build communications. Not being tied to a single vendor means that we can have scale for developers It gives the company the ability to quickly spin up ideas, and the scalability to…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is just the fact that it is a one-stop shop for all project documentation. It is compared to storing things in files and directories and stuff like that. It provides the overall usability and accessibility of many projects and documents in one area."
"The most valuable feature is the accessibility from different sites for different colleagues and the search option."
"Pricing is not a problem."
"The solution offers a lot of freedom when drafting directly online."
"The integration's very good. You still have integration with lots of third party products, and it's very good."
"As for valuable features, the team management features help us to share information very easily."
"The sharing of information and simple formatting are valuable features. That is, there are no templates, and everything uses one format. This means that people don't need to worry about formatting."
"It is easy to use."
"We use a part of the solution called Acquia. The personalization portion of this is the most valuable aspect fo the solution."
"You can build websites on it very quickly."
"The feature I find most valuable is that Drupal is a framework and not only a CMS."
"It is good for big projects."

Cons

"Atlassian Confluence could improve the stability, there are timeouts sometimes."
"The discoverability of documents could be improved."
"The roadmap feature should be made easier to work with and modify. It's not really scalable."
"The area that needs improvement is the search capability. It should have generalized capabilities."
"The flexibility and simplicity of this solution could be improved. We would also like the ability to add plugins."
"When we have a project that we don't want to share with everybody but want people to know that it exists, there is no way to do this in Confluence. When a project is not shared, people cannot see that it exits."
"The UX is a little bit all over the place."
"The one way in which this solution could be improved is by offering better design and UI."
"I think the support needs to improve, as well as the integration with tracking and analytics systems."
"The user experience in designing layouts should be much easier or much more helpful."
"Digital experience features like target, segmentation, and campaign management have a long way to go."
"It is a little bit simplified."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"To my knowledge, Atlassian Confluence had a pricing approach which is a commercial open-source solution, so that if you are a company, you had to pay an amount. This fee was not huge compared to other traditional solutions, and it was free for personal use or if you were an individual."
"There is an annual license."
"This is a very expensive solution."
"We have to pay licensing fees."
"There is a license needed to use Atlassian Confluence."
"The product is neither cheap nor expensive, meaning its price falls somewhere in the mid-range zone."
"I am using the paid version. My company has purchased it for company employees. We are using Confluence as a company. I don't know how much it costs, but its price is good enough. Its price is not so high."
"When you purchase this solution you get some support."
"I would like to see better pricing."

Jive vs Sharepoint vs Drupal Commons
At Mediacurrent we often get requests to compare Drupal to other platforms used for intranet sites and social business platforms (like https://dev.twitter.com/ for example). This is often referred to as “Social Business Software”, which has grown in popularity in recent years. I decided to do a…
