Provides a high level of security; have not had any issues with it thus far
Our primary use case is for our office abroad. There are 50 of us at the office each day. We also use the firewall for working from home and calling in What I find the most valuable about the Barracuda CloudGen Firewall is that it allows you to see what people are doing and what the highest rate…

Has efficient user access control feature and good technical support services
The multi-core architecture allows the running of multiple instances for checking files, even handling more than 2 GB of data. It has inbuilt reporting features, reducing the cost of external monitoring software. It's well-suited for organizations that need to transfer and scan large files. The scalability is good for small and medium-sized enterprises, but for organizations with more than 200 users, the cost can become a limiting factor. It is more suitable for large enterprises, especially for organizations with over 4,000 users. However, there could be flexibility in licensing, allowing organizations to cater to their specific needs and pay for the features and licenses they require. It can help reduce costs. I rate its scalability a seven out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Easy to implement, and it is also reliable."
"It's very easy to configure."
"The stability of the solution is excellent, as it is with other Fortinet products."
"The stability and scalability of this solution are satisfactory. Its SD-WAN, VPN, and URL filtering features are very useful."
"The most valuable feature is the SSL VPN, as it allows us to connect and it separates this product from other firewalls."
"The web tutor and automatic rules by schedule are good features."
"FortiGate improved our security. It's one of the best hardware firewalls."
"What's most important is the ease of use."
"When you are sending information to an external email address, Barracuda can warn you when you are trying to access a private or personal email, or trying to upload information and not allow you to do that."
"The features I find most valuable is the VPN and the fact that we can apply our policies to the program."
"Scalability is good; the company wants to be able to handle large customers."
"The encryption and the security standards are valuable."
"Barracuda is very prompt at blocking any new spam which comes out."
"Live monitoring of what is happening inside and on the interfaces, either ingress or egress."
"If you have multiple offices, all inter-connected via the internet, you want a single management console through which you can manage all you firewalls. In that case Barracuda could be a good option."
"Ability to manage multiple firewalls."
"We use the content filter quite a lot because it's an office setting. During working hours, we like to censor the sites users can visit so it increases productivity. Therefore, the content filter has been good for us."
"We like the central interface and we like the security features. Additionally, we use SonicWall with VPN connectivity and we have had no problems with SonicWall all these years."
"The most valuable feature of SonicWall TZ is the double authentication, where it asks for one password and again asks for a four-digit code, which changes every 30 seconds."
"The performance has been very good. Overall, the solution is quite stable."
"The most common feature in the firewall, apart from that traditional firewall, would be the security services, like application control, URL filtering, Gateway Anti-Virus, and IPS protection. These are the essential features in the firewalls which I think, has to be enabled and properly used at every network infrastructure."
"I like the firewall product, the security server, and the content filter."
"User-friendly firewall solution which scales well, is stable, and has high availability."
"It does exactly what it says on the tin. It is good for protecting the business from being compromised. Its port protection is very good."

Cons

"I think the only issue that needs improvement is the interface."
"I use the FortiGate 60D model and realized the 300Mbps bandwidth limitation. Because it is a product that offers many services, I think it could have greater bandwidth capacity."
"Usually, we sell the bundle with the UTM or threat management piece with IPS, IDS. Other providers, such as Palo Alto, are ahead in terms of safe functionality. So, for me, delivering truly safe service is probably something that still needs to be improved."
"Monitoring and reporting could be better."
"Fortinet needs to overhaul its documentation."
"It could use better throughput on some of the smaller boxes for the branch offices."
"The setup is pretty complex and not easy to implement."
"There are just some services that aren't available. For example, the Ethernet or point-to-point protocols. They could add these services to their product offering - especially services for ISPs."
"Technical support used to be at a very high level but it is now a bit less so."
"The administration UI could be better. It should also have better application detection policies."
"I would like to see the connection improved."
"It's a little bit complex in terms of handling. If you implement a change, there is a specific point where you have to commit it. It's not like you just push a button and it's always committed. If you don't know to check whether your commit command has been executed or not... that is something Barracuda needs to work on."
"I would like to see a more user-friendly dashboard and an easier interface."
"The initial setup is a bit complex."
"There is room for improvement in performance and the support language. The support they're providing right now is from a different country, and in our country, there are people—network admins and IT heads—who don't speak English properly. So Barracuda needs to provide support agents who speak additional languages, such as Bangla."
"When you do any commit, it locks your next access. If you are making a change to the device, from the security standpoint it's fine, but from the admin side it's not good. When you make changes, after each and every one it becomes locked."
"The solution has lost the trust of its customers because of moving from one company to another."
"The market seems to be going to a cloud-supported, new generation of firewall products. I think that's probably going to be important to us, the next time around."
"From a support perspective, if we're talking tech support I think Silver Partners, Gold Partners, Platinum, whatever level, should have a different number to call. End users can call tech support over at SonicWall if they've paid for support as part of their AGSS or whatever services they bought. The end-user can call, or we can call, however, I don't want to be calling the same line that an end user's calling. I don't want the same response time. I need a different level of expertise."
"The solution must provide more ports."
"FortiGate has a client DNS in the firewall, but SonicWall doesn't have that. To create or configure a site-to-site VPN tunnel, we have to give a DNS name. Currently, we have to get the DNS name from a third party and then include it in SonicWall, whereas FortiGate has its own client DNS, so it provides a DNS name, and it does not require a third party. There should be a graphical option to view the network utilization and bandwidth usage."
"Pricing could be lowered slightly."
"The quality of tech support can vary."
"I would like to see lower antivirus pricing."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I had to pay for the license for the firewall, but it is guaranteed to have updates. I expect a good service for it. It was about €1000 for a year, and there was no additional cost."
"Go for long term pricing negotiated at the time of purchase."
"The pricing is very reasonable."
"It is an inexpensive solution."
"The price of FortiGate is good."
"The value is the capability of having multiple services with one unique license, not having the limitation per user licensing schema, like other vendors."
"In terms of the market, it's not a cheap product, but it's cost-effective."
"Fortinet costs are 25% lower than the high-cost provider. There is an equipment cost and a recurring monthly cost for licenses and technical support."
"Pricing is good. Licensing is pretty much automatic if using Control Center."
"My advice is to try and evaluate it (Barracuda offers a trial period of one month)."
"We pay around 150 to 200 Euros per year and there are no additional costs."
"When the corporation purchases something, it follows a request-for-proposal process and the best price wins. So, I think Barracuda CloudGen Firewall is reasonably priced, though I’m not sure of the exact amount"
"Purchasing through AWS Marketplace was good. We did it because it was easy."
"We evaluated a lot of different options. We concluded that Barracuda NG Firewall provided the most features for an exemplary price. "
"It is a product with a very transparent model of licensing. In the sense of hidden expenses, they do not exist with this model. "
"The product is a bit cheaper than some solutions."
"There are a few features that are licensed and there should be more that are licensed. The price of the solution is midrange compared to others, I have not had anyone complain."
"The price is fair for the solution for the quality you receive."
"SonicWall has authorized distributors in our country. They have about two or three distributors in the country, so it makes it a bit easier. What we do is to request a quotation from these distributors, then we do a value for money analysis and see which one of them is giving us a competitive price."
"The price is high compared to some other solutions."
"It has a yearly subscription."
"The prices are expensive."
"The product is not expensive, but it is not cheap."
"Licensing fees are on a monthly basis."

Looks like WatchGuard is doing a really bad job in it's marketing, as it's in many aspects superior to other firewall vendors - when you are really into security and not just to have a box, that you will set up and forget. The biggest mistake in firewalling and security is that everyone just looks to have things as simple as possible, set them up and than never look back at them. Firewalls are...
