Currently, in my organization, I am using Dell NetWorker for open-source solutions like PostgreSQL and MySQL databases, and some large VM environments. It also supports the Dell library and is used for the library archiving system Dell NetWorker allows for extensive customization, supporting…

Enhanced data retention and recovery with robust backup features
The Oracle Agent and Oracle RAC support are valuable features; they are crucial for taking backups and cloning applications. NetBackup Appliance has many features. Backup Exec is a great product as well. NetBackup is well-developed with strong features, including deduplication technology, which allows us to retain backups for longer periods—exceeding our expectations by keeping backups for almost a month. It's effective for data recovery and capable of handling large-scale data recoveries. It is very stable and keeps applications secure. However, the AI integration is not yet tested.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Dell NetWorker allows for extensive customization, supporting various open-source databases like PostgreSQL."
"If it's set up the right way, it's a stable product."
"The GUI is the best feature. It's very good and easy to use."
"I feel that it is a good product."
"It integrates well with Dell's Data Domain as a backup storage solution."
"It is the best umbrella, serving the best applications."
"Dell EMC NetWorker is scalable."
"Deduplication is the most valuable feature of this solution."
"The utilization of Data Domain is crucial because of its integration with a key Veritas feature: retention lock. This feature ensures data integrity by preventing any alterations to stored data. When NetBackup interacts with Data Domain, enabling the retention lock feature ensures that neither administrators nor backup personnel can modify data stored within the system. This functionality is vital for compliance purposes and meets the requirements of auditors."
"The solution uses minimal resources."
"The reporting is very good compared to other tools."
"The documentation is okay. You are able to follow it and it is helpful."
"We mainly use Windows for all our operating systems. Our databases are SQL databases. For backups, we set up one master server and three process servers. Our company isn't big, so this setup works well for us. We install the Veritas NetBackup Appliance agent on all the systems that need to be backed up."
"The NetBackup appliance features customized software that is designed for storage."
"The product enables me to recover the information of the appliances in the organization."
"It is very capable of scaling and very good for heterogeneous environments."

Cons

"I would like to see encryption included in the next release to encrypt the data that we are backing up."
"The front end of the solution could improve. The user-friendliness is lacking."
"They need more support for image backups."
"Since the product is not on the front banner of Dell, the support may not be the best."
"The end-user experience is not good."
"The security features need backup and encryption. It would be nice if they added this feature. I would also like to be able to decrypt when restoring the security features. Hackers can sense these vulnerabilities today, and we need to have our enterprise prepared."
"When it comes to the stability of the product, some of the stores that have bad connectivity have some challenges backing them up because they operate remotely, the connection is slow, and it takes longer to manage the backup stuff."
"The graphical user interface (GUI) of NetWorker needs improvement."
"With technical support, it feels like they aren't well trained and it takes forever to get answers out of them."
"Veritas NetBackup would benefit from better explained error codes."
"NetBackup Appliance's pricing is reasonable, but it could be lower."
"They could improve the interface a bit."
"The configuration can sometimes be tricky during implementation."
"The reporting could be improved."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance needs to improve its security. It needs to ensure that it is 100 percent protected against cyberattacks."
"This solution has to have better integration with the cloud, as well as with other solutions such as Business Intelligence products."
