A scalable, full-package solution with a tech support team that bends over backwards to help
There is room for improvement in getting the analytics portion of the solution more integrated with the rest of it. The feature I would like to see is already in their newer licensing structure, and that's the live integration between Agility, Jira and Azure DevOps. That's the piece that I think is really valuable.

Powerful, flexible solution with a bit of a learning curve
The weakness of the solution is that the interface is a little nonstandard, meaning it's very flexible. It's got a lot of power and gives the user the ability to combine different projects into the portfolio and move user stories between projects and link them. What I have found in a couple of organizations that I've used it with, is that the uptake tends to be a little slow because it's got a bit of a learning curve. It can dump data out to Excel and those programs, but it also has a big ecosystem of plugins and add-ons that you can get. I guess it has some strength in that regard, but if you're going to run it on-prem, you have to have people that are pretty well-versed in the program and have the time and capabilities to handle integration and make sure they're adding those modules correctly. Their interface is a little unique and I think that's partly because the core of the product has morphed into several sub-products, but the underlying architecture has stayed the same on all of them in that it was originally a help desk ticketing system. Now they are moving into these new use cases, including systems development, business projects, business processes, and redevelopment projects, but there is a problem with the nomenclature that they use, and some of the documentation is a little techy for moving it into those more business-focused use cases. It's a very tech-focused product and that's fair given its origins, but if they really want to expand their community of users, then they're going to have to move beyond that a little bit and polish it up.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"For visualization capabilities, the automation capabilities make it possible to support the different personas. The features and capabilities are excellent and come with excellent support."
"It allows my clients to have one central tool to manage their agile projects."
"It can generate reports showing a burndown chart, burnup chart, and the planned vs actual velocity."
"Agility is highly flexible. It can do much more than what our client is doing with it. They use it in a defined way. Some at that company have a much broader knowledge of agile and SAFe, but they're given applications and a mandated way to work. We had to work within their parameters and provide an accurate transition so the data would be mapped and pushed through."
"With some of the other tools, you have to buy 20 different plugins to get to the same capability that comes with the basic Agility capability."
"The most valuable features of Jira are the dashboards where we see all the features lined up with the release dates in the portfolio view, it is very good."
"The integration is very good. We've more or less integrated with everything including reporting and registering."
"The product makes it easy to collaborate even though it can use some improvement in that area."
"In general, the valuable features of the tool are its capabilities concerning dependency reports and task status."
"The dashboard is the most valuable feature. The user experience is very good, it's easy to use."
"The solution is very powerful and the underlying structure of it is well done. The company behind the solution is very open as far as their whole ecosystem is concerned. They also do a lot of work in the training area."
"The solution helps you organize projects"
"The most valuable feature for me is the visualization and organizing of the tasks. We can have a pick, and then we can stick the multiple issues under that, and then we can again have a sort of hierarchical installation, and that's very useful."

Cons

"Improve how to create and track releases. Currently, I have to create child projects."
"The user interface can be improved by adding Save, Edit, Add, Cancel, and Return buttons to the popup windows that are displayed when you click on a child item."
"In my work as a contractor, it's always frustrating when a client has multiple software applications that don't talk to each other and they all perform the same function. That presents a huge challenge between their IT groups."
"The machine learning features are a new capability but could be improved. This is being worked by Digital.ai currently. Multicolor simulation, specifically, could be improved."
"There is room for improvement in getting the analytics portion of the solution more integrated with the rest of it."
"Another thing could be to have an easy way to manage the Portfolio and have more ways to share and to show graphics and reports"
"The workflow needs improvement."
"The solution should provide a monitoring interface for the customers to have more information about the issues."
"There is room for improvement in terms of scalability."
"I think the solution can improve in graphs and the analysis part."
"We are using the on-premise deployment, but it is slower and not as easy to manage as the cloud version."
"JIRA Portfolio's configuration management could be improved."
"JIRA Portfolio could improve new implementation because if I want integration for the complete wide frame tools it cannot provide any wide frame tools."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Comparing the pricing to other products, I think this solution is in the middle."
"You get what you pay for. Don't let your development teams dictate what the portfolio management team should use as the main tool."
"Portfolio is well-priced - a license for ten users costs $100 or $150 a month."
"The solution is offered at a high cost"
"We have a license to use JIRA Portfolio, we are not using the free version."
"I do not believe that the product provides value for money since I feel that it is quite expensive."
"I rate JIRA Portfolio a five out of ten for its pricing."
"Portfolio is very expensive, costing on average $2000-3000 per user per month."
"The price is reasonable"
"We only have nine people using it so we have a standard cost of $150 dollar per year. There are only additional costs if you exceed the limit of users, then you start paying by user. The cost is significantly higher."
